Hamsini club is probably one of the oldest surviving East African Organizations in Sweden
and now, the Club’s leadership has decided to host its Annual party for the first time in Märsta by moving it away from Uppsala, the traditional hosting ground. The Party takes place of Saturday, 26th July 2008.
Known to be a Club for men only, the history of Hamsini goes all the way to 1989 when it was formed. The Club’s members are mostly from East Africa though Kenyans and Tanzanians dominate the membership. Its base is in Uppsala where 60 percent of members also reside.
In the last 3 years, the leadership has managed to recruit more members from Stockholm and this is why the group thought that it was best to host this year’s bash in Märsta in Stockholm. At the moment, Hamsini has 10 members in Sweden while others reside in Africa.
Speaking to KSB about the Saturday, bash Hamsini’s current Secretary Mr
Charles Otieno Owiyo said that most of Hamsini parties have been taking place in Uppsala because of the high concentration of its membership in the city.
Asked about the modalities of joining the Club, Mr Oti was quick to say that
even though Hamsini is a Club for men only, one of the requirements is that a member must have a wife or a partner in order to be accepted.
“We do accept guest students of both sexes but they are always with us for a short time after which they usually travel back home after completion of their studies at the Uppsala University”, Mr. Oti told KSB.
“Any interested person should contact me or come to any of our meetings which usually takes place every end of the month”, he added as he gave further details about the Party.
“The party is strictly for Club members and invited guests. It will begin at 18:00hrs till chee”, he said.
The venue will be Norrbackaskolan in Märsta and Dj Jimmy will be spinning all night long. Attendance by invitation means that the Party is exclusive and this kind of development is new among Wakenya in Sweden.
At the time we went to blog, KSB was still trying to squeeze in an invitation through a Club member so as to be able to spy on what happens at the Party and probably bang a story for our readers who will be out of the radar. Things were looking good.
