The trial of 31-year-old mother from Sigtuna, begins today at Attunda District Court from 10:00. During police interrogation, the woman mentioned how she pushed her children into the water and watched them drown. “The idea was all of us were to die.”
Today she is on trial for double murder. Four-year-old Elijah and his eight-year-old brother Tevin, were found dead in the water at Munkholmen in Sigtuna on September 19, 2011. Soon, suspicion was directed against their 31-year-old mother.
“Easier if we died”
At first she denied having anything to do with the death of her sons. But then one day during a police interrogation, she confessed murdering them.
Before committing the murders, the woman began to feel more and more mentally ill and had major financial problems. “I felt that I could not take care of them. It would be easier if we all died. I had “Let Them Down.” I had lost all hope of taking care of them,” said the woman in police hearings.
On 18th September she took her sons to a jetty then pushed them into the water and watched them drown. “Tevin did not scream but Elijah cried a long time. It was loud and he was screaming no, no, no,” said the mother at the questioning. “I just stood there and cried. The idea was that I would jump in but I did not dare.”
