Young Kenyan footballers resident in Sweden are urgently needed to participate in this year’s Gothia Cup which will be held for six days in Göteborg starting July 12th to 18th. A team of young footballers from Kenya will participate in the event and they will be led by former Kenya National team Coach (Harambee Stars) Mr. Mohammed Kheri.
Speaking to KSB on telephone, Kheri said that youth participating in the event from Kenya will represent the country through the Mombasa Youth Soccer Academy which he initiated to promote young talented footballers. The former Coach told KSB that he believes that young Kenyan footballers in Sweden should also be given an opportunity to participate in the event and that it was for this reason that his group would like to take contact with talented young Kenyan footballers in Sweden.
The Gothia Cup is the largest youth tournament with over 120 countries participating pitting 1500 teams and it is played in Gotebörg every summer. Most importantly, the event is normally used by talent scouts from all over the world looking for young talent to promote. “We need to give a chance to boys who live in Sweden to represent Kenya through the Mombasa Youth Soccer Academy”, Kheri told KSB.
Already, Mombasa Academy has registered footballers in the age groups of 13, 16 and 18. Kheri said that his group needs 6 boys in the age group of 13, 2 boys in the age group of 16 and 4 boys in the age group of 18. Those participating will be required to pay for their transport, accommodation, food and registration which, he said, will cost 2,500 kr for the six days. Those interested could reach Mr. Kheri directly via email at coachmohamedkheri(at)yahoo.com or contact KSB for further information.
