Willy Korir, a Kenyan marathoner, won the 42.195 Kilometer Stockholm marathon held on
Saturday June 31st. The Kenyan won in 2:16.03 and kept the lead during the last 10 Kilometers of the race.
He was followed by Bernard Mutai, also a Kenyan who finished at 2:17:57. The third position was taken by yet another Kenyan, Paul Kipkemoi Tangus whose performance made it a 1-2-3 win for the Kenyans in Stockholm’s most prestigious marathon.
In the women’s race, it was Kenya oce again. Isabellah Andersson, a Swede of Kenyan origin, won in 2:34:14,
beating Lena Gavelin, another Swede, who crossed the line six and a half minutes later.
The marathon was contested by more than 18,231 runners from 40 countries and regions who raced through the streets of Stockholm. The event is held annually and was launched in 1979. The Saturday race was the 30th Edition and drew the highest number of participants.
