A group of Kenyans in Stockholm have mooted an idea for the setting up of “Kenya Center in Stockholm” to enable the community begin a process of serious re-organization especially at the social front.
The idea revolves around mobilizing a minimum of 50 Kenyans to seek ways of acquiring a lokal (venue) where the community could meet and engage in other socio-cultural activities. So far, five Kenyans have put their names down to begin the project and this message is intended to circulate within the Kenyan community so that those interested could join the project.
A major pillar on which the idea rests is based on raising money that can fund a lokal for a minimum of 1 year at an average monthly rate of 10,000 kr. According to the brain boxes behind the idea, a target of 50 Kenyans is realistic because since the total amount needed for annual rent is 120,000 kr, the idea would work if every individual contributed 2,500 kr. The mathematics has it that there are over 1000 Kenyans in Stockholm alone and out of this number, there must be those who are getting concerned with the state of disorganization to an extent that Kenyans have nowhere to meet especially at short notice.
As a starting point, the idea rolls around giving every Kenyan who wants to get involved between 6 months to one year to raise 2,500kr that would see the project take off the ground. In essence, this means raising 250 kr every months for ten months at the minimum. If the number of interested Kenyans grows past the 50 target, the amount to be raised per individual would be much lower. Those who put their money in the Project will be charged with running the Center.
Once the money is raised and the Center begins to operate, the Management would continue raising funds to finance the Center by organizing activities and making it possible for Kenyans to hire the lokal at affordable prices for different activities.
Although five Kenyans have already signed their names to join the project, the matter is still at an idea level and so far, no funds are actively being raised. When the list of interested Kenyans grows to ten, a meeting will be called for the real brain storming to begin after which a Committee will be set up to oversee the project.
Many Kenyans are becoming concerned about the state of disorganization of the community in Stockholm and those behind the idea believe that something must be done. Further details about the Project, contact persons and how to get involved will be released by the end of the week.

Osewe thanks for the update. Too bad if that is how Wakenya thought because by now we would be having our joint. If they read this, they should revive the idea. Maybe a few of us can meet and discuss it.
