There is increased tension among two Kenyans in Stockholm after a paper-making project went seriously wrong. According to the storo, the Kenyan dude was supposed to fix mapeps to a Kenyan chick in a pro forma ndoa that was to cost SEK 80k and which was to be paid by installment spanning a period of two years, time when according to the strategy, PUT was to have landed safely on the chick’s soft laps to be enjoyed.
The deal kicked off very well with a down payment of Sek 20k which triggered a PUT application at the Immigration department. After she arrived in Sweden as a refugee four years ago, the chick has been hustling in Stockholm after she moved from a refugee camp in Kiruna to look for greener pastures. It is through sheer hard work that after a period of two years, the chick raised cash that could enable her enter into a mapepe business with a “willing partner”. Pro forma marriages are well known to the Swedish authorities although very little can be done to stop the practice because of insurmountable difficulties inherent in disputing a stated romantic relationship between two partners.
According to the blue print, the chick was then to descend down to Kenya after the first down payment to wait for her mapeps “to mature” after which she was to return to Sweden. Upon landing at Arlanda International Airport, the agreement stated that the chick was to make another payment of Sek20k then after another six months, a new installment of Sek 20k would follow before a final payment of Sek 20k just before the “sealing of the papers” to open the way for her to live in Sweden happily there-after.
According to the agent who pieced the storo, the plan went according to schedule and as soon as the chick returned from Kenya, she delivered her part of the deal by paying Sek 20k. She had apparently been fund raising in Kenya, promising her contacts that she would repay every penny she collected because once she was back in Sweden, she would quickly fix any kind of job and begin to generate a constant stream of income which would enable her repay everybody who had helped her fund raise.
To oil her fundraising machine, she promised to unveil a long-term program of airlifting to Sweden close relatives and friends who helped her fund raise once she settled down. This strategy paid off dearly because once she planted the message firmly in the minds of her expectant contacts, relatives and friends began trooping in unabated with their contributions. To underline how serious she was, she opened “a register of beneficiaries” to ensure that everybody who participated in the project would not be missed when the big airlift began and everybody was excited.
In the process, a piece of land was sold here, a bank loan was secured by a friend there, some heads of cattle were auctioned at the neighbours, a mini harambee held by her cousins at a hotel there while some family members sold anything to reach the Ksh 300k the woman needed for the next deposit and her air ticket back to Sweden. By the time the last coins were counted, the figure stood at Ksh 420k or about SEK 42k. She had literally made it!

Since home people could not understand what “mapepe bizz” means, and to avoid confusion and unnecessary explanations that could have included the definition of mapepe, the woman simplified stuff by saying that the money was for her further education at Stockholm University. Although she was waiting for her mapeps, she changed the story and the version she fed her contacts was that she was waiting for her five year student’s visa before travelling to Sweden. Everybody seemed convinced especially after she added that she returned to Kenya because she could not study without a student’s visa as per the Swedish law. After residing in Sweden for four years, any information about Sweden which she gave her listeners was treated as “the law”. Speaking to a KSB spy soon after she returned from Kenya loaded with cash, she marveled at how easy it was to fool locals in Kenya using the “been to Sweden” tag. For folks who had never seen the inside of an aeroplane, flying was itself one of the biggest events in life and occasionally, she found herself having to explain what happens in an aeroplane. It was just hilarious!
Unknown to this chick was the fact that the Kenyan dude she struck a Mapepe deal with had apparently entered into a new business deal with another woman soon after he received the second installment from “the first wife”. In fact, the “second wife” had already delivered a down payment of Sek 50k although the couple were yet to begin the real process of manufacturing mapeps. Unfortunately, and in a moment of excitement, the second wife whispered to a close Kenyan friend the new mapepe bizz between her and the Kenyan.
Once the third party got wind of the new development, whispers began to spread from ear to ear. In a Kenya-Stockholm environment where rumour mongering is a way of life, word eventually reached the “first wife” to the effect that her Kenyan paper-maker had entered into a new marriage with another woman who had apparently paid him Sek 50k. At first, she did not believe the storo because she knew that there was no way someone could marry two women at the same time in Sweden. Unknown to her was the fact that the woman who had already paid Sek 50k had not yet began the process although she was promised that things would soon begin to roll.
Once he received cash from the second wife, the Kenyan dude secretly sneaked back to the Immigration department and divorced the first wife without informing her. Although the first wife was in Sweden, and although she had just been rendered single, the woman had no idea about the developments. However, the rumours persisted, forcing her to begin her investigations. She asked the dude whether he was aware about the rumours. It is at this point that things began to fall apart Chinua Achebe style.
The man jammed with his first wife, accusing her of listening to rumours and propaganda about a private project and in a situation in which he was just helping. However, what he did not tell his first wife was that the second wife had offered him 120k for the deal. This meant that he would make 40k more than the deal offered by the first wife. With time, the man became hostile and started moving in the direction of refunding all the cash to the first wife if the wife thought that he was playing games.
At this point, the storo was already doing the rounds freely in Kenya-Stockholm and it is during this period that an agent picked it up and banged in at KSB. As we write, the first wife is in crisis because although the dude has promised to make a refund, there are no sureties that this will happen. Secondly, the woman does not know how she will deal with the situation, given her creditors in Kenya. She still does not believe that her mapepe-making project has actually collapsed after she thought she had it figured out. At the moment, there is tension between the two Kenyans although it is not yet clear whether the second wife knows about the deal with the first wife. As the Kenya-Stockholm scandal week approaches conclusion, it is not clear how some issues will eventually be resolved. When contacted for comment, the dude refused to talk to KSB.

A fellow African friend of mine who had lived abroad for many years but is now back home told me once of a famous saying that if one cannot face the harsh challenges of living abroad and resorts to conning fellow hustling Africans of their hard earned money, then it is time to relocate to Africa. It is puzzling that the vices of fraud and dishonesty that have kept Africa down on its knees have been exported to countries which should have otherwise offered vital lessons for people to wisen up. You fraudsters left Africa because of the greed and kleptocracy of the ruling elite who help themselves with state/taxpayers resources for free but instead of acting right, your evil mind tells you to defraud people in vulnerable situations. I bet all of us are here for a reason knowing too well the situation back at home. Supremacy wars ya nini? Exploiting newly arrived and vulnerable fellow Kenyans will not change things for the better for you who think that residing here for many years make you important. The key challenge of racial bigotry, that faces the blackman in this part of the world is a cup of tea for all of us irrespective of how long you have lived abroad. The wise thing to do would have been to integrate our efforts in circumventing if not mitigating the damning effects of bigotry,an ailment society subjects us to on a daily basis. Some of us are to prepared to go to any lengths including preying on the financial fortunes of others, sending them to oblivion just to live up to the high profile name they have created back in Kenya through concoctions of lies and deception. Such Kenyans are the double edged swords that ruin the lives of fellow Kenyans seeking fortunes abroad as well as those at home, because your lies make them believe that anything foreign is desirable. No wonder some peverted foreign behaviour have gained foothold in Kenya.
Diaspora full of conmen, idiots and stupid Kenyans. Go back to your country and stop hustling in the name that you are in diaspora.
