IEBC must show it’s muscle and implement without fear leadership integrity provisions. As we start registering to vote! It goes without saying that the prosperity and success of a nation rely on the leadership of a visionary, intelligent and knowledgeable leader with integrity. The question I ask myself is: should one lose a job over integrity? What justifies voting a leader who fails integrity test? Only in Kenya one can be a suspect of crimes against humanity and still get cheers from the IEBC and votes from the citizens! A trusting relationship between a leader and his people is essential for loyalty and stability that’s built on an important link based on the honesty and integrity of the leader. His actions speak for his words. The more he wants to cover up the more troubles he would get. Only by being honest and acting with integrity, the leader can be full of self-confidence when facing his people, who would, in return, trust him to treat them fair and square and regard him as a competent and reliable leader. “The purpose and intent [of a true leader] shall be to elevate mankind’s faith, and to fill the world with justice” Maimonides, Laws of Kings, 4:10. With so many people purporting to be leaders in Kenya today, how do we recognize a true leader? To answer that question, we must step back and ask: What is it that our leaders (ICC suspects) are really trying to accomplish if elected with ICC case hanging on their necks? What can we achieve as a country with economic sanctions? Are we throwing away the vision 2030 just because of these two suspects? It is important, especially today, to distinguish between leadership and demagoguery. A demagogue may inspire people, but his motives are impure and his expectations unrealistic. It is wise to be a bit skeptical when assessing a leader: Is he truly devoted to his mission or just seeking glory? Is he truly interested in the welfare of others or simply building a flock for his own aggrandizement?
