Recently on a quiet evening in town, my three friends and I had a rude shock at the restaurant called Bolero Bueno Café on Klarabergsgatan 25, opposite Åhléns. We had agreed to meet at 17:30 to hold a private meeting. I arrived first and secured a sitting space for the four of us at the inner section for eating guests. One of the young waitresses that approached me was very friendly when explaining that we could only sit if we were to eat dinner, which I agreed on. I ordered coffee as I waited and after five minutes, the first friend arrived and ordered tea and French fries just to start off. Soon after, the third friend arrived and ordered tea too.
Another waitress came and said we should be eating guests to sit there and I answered that we were waiting for a fourth friend then we would order dinner. Before we could even settle properly, a ragged looking guy came and sat on one of the chairs next to us, then declared he was the owner of Bolero. He said that we had to move since we were not eating dinner. I explained to him that we had told two waitresses earlier that we were waiting for a friend before ordering food. However, he just went ballistic saying we had to move and stressed that our hot beverages were not food. Further explanations did not matter because he used the typical stereotype for labeling Africans:
“Do you think I am asking you to leave because of your skin color?” Things were escalating and suddenly a tall Swedish guy with tattoo covering his arms jumped into the argument from nowhere shouting: “You shut up am seated with my daughter; you are disturbing us”. The daughter in question was some tiny little toddler who could barely crawl. He then turned to one of my friends: “Come out now I will show you”. My friend stood his ground and told him he was going nowhere and that he had no business talking to him since he was just another stupid customer poking his nose into affairs which did not concern him.
Our fourth friend, who is a Swede, arrived and we explained exactly what had happened. He was so upset at the way we were treated that he went to the owner and gave him his piece of mind. He told him how we had been there previously and had enjoyed eating and drinking; that is why we had returned. He cleared our bill and we decided to walk out in protest, never to go back. We later had a royal dinner with full customer care at Bamboo City along Drottningsgatan, which serves assorted buffet dishes like Japanese, Thai, and Chinese.
Kenya-Stockholmers should be careful about the poor customer service at Bolero Bueno Café.
Concerned Kenyans
If that was in USA where I leave the owner of that cafe would be taken to court and nobody would go in that cafe including white people.Nothing like that can never happen in America because its outright racism and the consequences are fatal. If he did that to a black person in America the results would have been bad.You guys should not have kept quite like that – you should have told him to take his white ass out of your way.
Esther
Wow, thats cool you must feeel proud of yourselves, a swed majestically saved your situation@ that moment.Just wondering if the swed didn’t turn up what your situation would turn out like? Anyway Swedes rule when you live in their country, under their system. what do you expect when you ain’t blond with blue eyes in a rasist country that dislikes blacks??(i hope you don’t edit this for your personal benefit, we know you have to look nice & perfect!!)
Hidden racism so don’t go back there.
These things happen almost everyday unfortunately, something most third world immigrants have to deal with.
I shall never set foot in that place!
nyonyi #2: The owner of the café is a Latin American and that is what shocked us – a foreigner. The Swedish friend who paid the bill did it out of his own will so that he could talk to the owner. We were waiting for him as explained, so his arrival was not coincidental. He told the owner that it was rude to treat his friends that way. There is nothing to hide about the experience which was purely rude and racist to us. We put a brave verbal fight and put him off for his stupid attitude. We had no problem the previous time we visited the café.
Bolero sells too expensive coffee and tea plus there’s a lot of noise from the main road.
good tip about another racist cafe i will neva visit.
thanks for the info osewe.i will never go to that cafe and ill tell my friends to never go there
KSB: It was sent in by some countrymen who did not appear happy with how they were treated.
Thumbs down to Bolero café
I visited Bolero café today with the mac girls after the workshop we went to this morning. My “hot” cocoa was rather cold and after I started drinking, it was just gone in two seconds BOHO… So I would not recommend Bolero café if you´re in Stockholm!
http://www.murderotic.com/2011/10/bolero-cafe-tummar-ner.html
This is another Fawlty Towers so no visiting to get a rude shock from the crazy Latino owner.
The Owner of the Cafe is a Latino! So What ?When will Niggers realize that they do not have any brother! Once you have white/Broewn Skin you Shit Africans! For Information Kenyans Must behave in bars/restaurants /bubs etc !You must learn to talk quiet not to shout like Idiots in the middle of civilized communities. You dont own cafes ,why should you go and shout like crazy wiklings. You are not aropund to spoil the owners business becouse of your few kronas .The owner can still survive without Africans as customers. You must behave or Pack up and go home and treat whites the same.
Wakenya we need our own place to eat and socialize.
First of all answer to # 10…we African know how whites treat oss already and we dont need you to tell us…and i can garantee you that whites are living very dangerous life in Kenya today! African can still servive without going to that bushit cafe!.and you who is wasting your time in this blogg,..then you must be a big looser if att all you have time to be involved here…you must be very frustrated and you are really in pain! “did black people kill you parents”? or made them alcoholic? or did blacks give your parents mental problems? something must have happen to you as a kid?? please it would be better for you to look for help instead of wasting your life like this? what a waste you are for you family? and by the way? “you should move to another country where there is no blacks??? even if you will be a foreigner there.
To us blacks ..when shall we learn? we never organize ourselves ..instead we involve ourselves with useless gossiping och drinking…forgetting why we came hete to Europe in the first place…my experince is that when i oppened my business 14 years ago…no black/most Kenyas came there…and the few ones who came came there to take credit… this is the way we think..just to use each other instead of boosting each other. If someone fron our country open a cafe or anything…all of the them will be gooing there expecting to get credit or some for free… some of the place in stockholm dont accept blacks because the all gather one place..order a beer or coffe and the stay the whole evening occupying a whole table without ordering anything..so i understand the point there no one who owns a business want guests who are just sitting killing time, while other pontential guests could occpy the table and spend.
It has even happened to me in Kenya my own country! new stanley…you as a black person can sit there waiting to be served(by your own black waiters) and no one will even look at you…but if a white comes in all of them will be running to serve them because they will give tips, but you dont!….as long as we worship money plus corruption, then this things will always exist.
To my point…dont be surprised…discriminating in Sweden is “systematic” thís people discriminate without even knowing!!!! its in their blood.
Another thing about latino people..expecially from Chile, they all hate blacks,…in history when ohter latni countries had black people…Chile killed all blacks while countries like Cuba,Colombia, brazilia etc have alot of blacks….even if its not either so easy to be black in those countries either.
Our own experience in Europe should be “a wake upp call” this should have tought us to organize ourselves..long time ago.
Commentator # 10 you must be thinking through your ass! the story is straightforward and does not require ur dissing of Kenyans for nothing. Yes, the owner is Latino and he behaved stupidly. You were not there but our three Kenyans went public to explain their disappointment which is a wake up call, that does not ´call for your rude words. I have been to Bolero before and had an exchange with the dirty looking owner who to me is uncouth and mannerless to customers. He should not assume that Africans don’t have money to spend and by the way, the customer is always right. I pity you who wants Kenyans to suffer humiliation just because a cafe is owned by svartskalle Latino whom we don’t even know his source of capital. Wake up!
kadogo kwenda huko na maneno yako useless.Wakenya wamechanuka na hawatasikiza matusi yako!
How comes you were not welcomed in a City Cafe ?What are you hiding?Tell the truth then kenyans can judge btw the truth ,Just open up guys you are not telling the real truth but a One sided story .
Were you the only blacks there in that cafe?
Were you shouting (Wakenya style) ? Were you gossipping ?You must stop your bad behaviours and learn how to behave ,good manners ,and learn to respect other peoples Busisness.
To own a cafe in such a SBC (Stockholm Business Centre) costs a lot of money .And you cannot go there and mis-behave . Get Civilized.Did you expect the Owner to treat you with kid-gloves?
Servicen tycker jag är dålig till urusel (gång på gång tyvärr): känns som att kunden inte är viktigaste faktorn i deras verksamhet. Det finns alltså utrymme för (mycket) förbättring!
The fool @10 can only write hateful words because the comment given reflects some inner frustrations. Why insult your own people? I believe you are an African too, yet have a low self-esteem which you use on others. Think soberly when commenting because you seem to have all the problems you note about others. Give meaningful comments instead of abusing, which is a sign of your lack of understanding issues.
Swedes also shout in pubs and other public places and get kicked out more than any other race, given that they are everywhere in terms of numbers. Many Africans can afford to go to those pubs and cafes, and it is their right to be treated properly. One doesn’t get rowdy from drinking a cup of coffee or tea. Also, it is not often you find Africans taken away by the police for not paying their bills after a meal, so stop insulting us. Clean up the dirt in your brain to improve your level of thinking. You also need prayers!
Bolero can go fcuk! No seeing me there and will tell my pals.
sweden is full of racists even foreign ones so watch it.
Det finns vissa från personalkraften som borde le lite mer
There are other cafes with better service.
Alltid väldigt lång kö och tyvärr verkar de inte städa så oftta.
Kenyans are kicked out even in Nairobi that is why there are Bodybuilders (Väktare) to make sure security is maintained (guys) stop messing with peoples businesses!
If Swedes are racists becouse they dont torelate African nonsense why cant you pack and go to your Primitive Kenya !Where you are authorized to burn peples assets.
You must behave otherwise many clubs will not entertain lowdy Africans who has bad manners.
i find some comments really silly. The eating section at Bolero does not let one make noise because it is secluded from the open pub area where people sit and eat light meals. No Kenyan would go shouting at 17:00 yet they had ordered tea while waiting for the Swedish friends.
You fools who cannot understand the storry and are adding a lot of nonsense to it, just shut up!
wakenya wengine ni wapumbavu kabisa even a clear story is now being spiced with stupid words yet the people who were victimised for nothing agreed to share their experience.
Why were these Kenyans victimised? Who are they ?can they let us know their names so that we can analyse them and judge them? What was their crime to be victimised?
They must be telling lies! A cafe owner is a serious businessman who always welcomes his guests well,How comes he only hated these few kenyans? This is a question that must be asked properly.
You victimised fellows ,can you open up and tell the truth. We dont want to be judges of a one sided story.
Should we contact the Owner of Bolero and hear his side of story?
Not sure what kind of restaurant that was but folks typically don’t go to a steak house, get seated, order coffee and wait. Typically, when waiting for company, one hangs out at the side bar. That’s the etiquette. Educate yourself.
Unless you were in a Mickey mouse restaurant, there was no racism here.
Shigoli: Read the story properly. Discrimination in public places in Stockholm comes when you least expect. This was around 17:00-18:00 so tells you that it was not a night club nor was it a weekend to imagine the Kenyans were drank. Read the story carefully to avoid creating an unnecessary spin-off from nothing. These people later paid their dinner at the Bamboo City restaurant, which confirms the nonsense they encountered at Bolero. Don’t be a doubting Thomas!
Kenya1 keep sleeping while the rest are moving on. The message is a wake up call yet you are snoring! Jinga wewe because you can drink coffee or tea while waiting for your dinner. Ni wewe mavi who is uneducated! Have you been to Bolero? IT is not a steak house. The Kenyans never wrote about racism but poor service. The artcile ridicules the owner who claimed they might have thought he was a racist to ask them to move out of the dining area. Please read and understand beore commenting.
Some comments here would provide psychiatrics and psychologists with enough work to keep them busy into mid next year. It is plain to see some KSB fans hoover over articles like vulture over carrion waiting to feed in a frenzied fashion, a release for their build-up venom and negativity. This must be feel orgasmic for them since they persist in their behavior regardless of subject matter.
Commentator # 10 and # 23 evidently suffer from self-hate and low self-esteem.
Commentator # 26 has the audacity to ask for names, so that an analysis and judgment may be done. Who elected him or her Chief Justice, jury and executioner? Why doesn’t he or she see about the log in his eye before attempting to assist with the splinter in his neighbors? Bure kabisa!
Commentator # 15 has delusions of grandeur and has an obvious superiority complex.
Commentators # 20, 21, 22 are obviously swedes and just don’t get it with their irrelevant comments that mean zero.
Depressing isn’t it?
O. Hatari that’s a good analysis of commentators that are hellbent to get blood out of stone, aka beyond salvage, with their mediocre views.
guys welcome to stockholm, this happens most the time, the waitress should have made it clear though that only diners and not “fika” was allowed she did not really have to involve her manager since you people were not loud or rowdy at all.
I was once out to take coffee with a friend at a restaurant in Norrmalmstorg, the lady was kind enough to ask us if we had plan to order dinner, we said no, she later told us we were not welcome. After 5 pm only diners were welcoome, The lady was a foreigner, and I a white swede, did i take he to be racist?, no!
how many times have you read the news where people with “barnvagnar” have been refused entry at some stoockhom restaurants!
welcome to the world of stockholm city restaurants, it’s almost like u need to apologise first or ask for permisioon to sped YOUR own money. it’s crazy! –
Please readers, we were informed that only diners were allowed in that section, and since we had planned to eat, we agreed that it was OK. The first waitress served us coffee, tea and French fries as we waited for the rest of our friends. It was only after 17:00 and having snacks before dinner at that time from work was in order for us. After all, we had a long evening ahead. Why did they serve us the coffee and tea yet knew only dinner was served there? Because we said we would eat when all the four of us had assembled.
It’s only after the third friend arrived and ordered tea that another waitress said we should eat. We answered that we would eat after the last friend (the Swedish man) had arrived. But before he arrived, the dirty looking Latino owner came and started telling us to move out to the non-dining section since we were only taking coffee, tea and snacks. There was no complaint of RACISM from us except he is the one who told us that we should not think that being told to move out was because of our skin color. That was when we asked why he had introduced the race card while for us, it was purely bad service. He then claimed we were shouting and suddenly the tall tatooed Swedish man came shouting and asking one of us to come and sort the matter with him since we were disturbing his daughter — an infant who barely understood anything.
The incident at Bolero was based on ignorance, hidden racism and a general assumption that Africans are the same, yet we are heterogeneous and individual in all aspects. One bad African does not represent all of us. In fact when our Swedish friend came and talked to the weird Latino owner, he cooled down. By then we were so angry and left all the tea and French fries in protest to look for another restaurant. We were treated so well at the Bamboo City restaurant where we ate as had been planned for the evening. We even tipped the waiters generously.
It is important to note that our intention at Bolero was to hold a private meeting while eating dinner. It was the stupid owner’s loss and eventual rejection of his premises by us. We left in protest and were not thrown out. A restaurant owner must respect customers regardless of pre-conceived notions about their skin color or habits. If some Africans misbehave when they come to Bolero, it is not all who do so. How come we ended up as four people in our group as we had told the waitress? Why did they not trust us in the beginning? It is a shame that a foreigner like that owner could behave so after we had assured him that eating dinner was part of our sitting in that section. We had previously eaten and drunk at the “fika” section, spending 1000 kronor, and since we had liked the place, felt that our next meeting would be in the quiet dinner section.
KSB commentators need to stop all other manner of assumptions in this story because many Kenyans can afford to eat and drink in restaurants. We don’t carry around the “race card” in every act we face, except use it when necessary and sure. In this case, it is the foolish owner who brought it in and shocked us when we asked how “race” was concerned with our plan to eat dinner. He is just a stupid and primitive businessman who has an internal judgment of Africans, whom he thinks have a general way of behavior and maybe cannot afford to buy dinner. He even made a fool of himself saying he had black friends but we were too civilzed to play his silly game.
One thing with many Africans is we don’t just scream racism in everything. The muscular Swede who threatened us might have been his friend whom he uses to harrass Africans beacuse he was all muscles without brains. One of us told him off saying he was not Bolero’s owner and needed to shut up.
Taube #33 and other commentators who are adding spices to this story: now you know the details. We saw no trouble coming when we entered and sat in that part of Bolero since we had intended to have dinner. However, we were faced by an owner with internal race problems accompanied by poor customer service. We shall never return there.
Haaaaaa heeeee some Kenyans think they are better than these who have told their stories. A Kenya-Stockholm woman born as a point five (mother white Zimbabwean and father Kenyan Maasai) and now married to a Swedish man, was shocked when she invited some friends from the US who ended up being denied travel visa. Don’t think that because of a mixed race background you are better off in Sweden. This is a primitive country when it comes to mixed race descendants especially black and white. It is better in the USA where point fives know they are Black unless they choose to be White. Point five children are the most confused in Sweden.
Mlatos and Albinos are un-eyesore in almost every society everywhere inclunding where you stay!
KSB: Are you sure that this is not a blanket condemnation?
Sorry to hear you got such a bad experience with Bolero!I’ve been there a few times,to eat and just for a fika or glass of wine!Been there with an african american friend and had no problems at all! It’s a place that seem popular among black people so I guess racism shouldn’t be a problem.Don’t think many would go back if they(blacks) felt discriminated!
But a sad story that should never happen!
Lisa, discrimination knoweth no time or persons and a nasty individual experience is not universal. More power to other blacks who are welcome at Bolero.
