Plans for the “Miss Africa Crown” Pre-Selection boogie is getting into full swing with 18 beautiful contestants having submitted their applications. During the Pre-Selection Party scheduled for September 3rd, only 12 contestants will be able to make it to the finals at the Africa Night Cruise at Silja Line on October 8-9th 2010.
Miss Amy Nyang (whose stage name is “Amie Kolleh”) is an 18 year old contestant (turning 19 in October) who was born in Sweden while her parents are originally from Gambia and Senegal. She says that she is a “well-spoken and motivated girl” who has goals to achieve and one of them is doing something special for her motherland, the Gambia.
“Even though I was born and raised in Europe, I have always followed my African culture by learning the language and traditions. This is a wonderful opportunity to represent my country”, she says in her application.
KSB will be profiling the contestants to the Miss Africa Crown Pre-Selection Party as a way of exposing them to the audience which will enjoy their presence at the contest. Application forms can be downloaded from the Ritz website together with conditions for participation. An application can also be made directly by filling an application form at the site and submitting it to the organizers.
In the meantime, booking for the Africa Night Cruise is underway with over 50 bookings during the first week alone. This is a considerable number, given that the event is in October. Because of the huge interest in the event, organizers are predicting that the 400 tickets slated for the event will all be sold out. It is therefore important that those interested should not wait for last minute bookings because there may be no such bookings.
Another piece of news is that discussions are underway with the Band “Vumbi Dekula” to join the Cruise. Vumbi has a large following in Stockholm and his supporters have been on the necks of the organizers to get him and his band on board. Vumbi plays at “Little Nairobi” and his presence during the event will provide a welcome break if a deal is reached.
