From the dances, songs to poems, all could tell the gratefulness of children hosted by Philiis Wambui Memorial children’s home. Some laughed, some clapped others cried. The little ones jumped up and down playfully, their grinning faces unfolding jolly hearts. It was truly a celebration in style.
From a very humble beginning of a mud house, Phillis Wambui children’s home has grown to become one of the best run children’s home in Kenya.
The most valuable gift the home presented to the children was a Library. There has been hard work throughout to ensure that the children have a decent and well equipped Library. Their quest was satisfied when the Library was officially opened during the 10th anniversary of their haven. They say that the best you can give your child is education and this gesture attested to that.
Adjacent to the Library is a small clinic. This is to ensure that the children get swift medical attention whenever they are unwell, a well thought-out idea which will also minimize the movement of children to hospital and divert money that could be used for medical expenses to another use.
Those who have been to the home have probably noticed lack of Director’s Office. She had to hold meetings from her house. This has now ceased. Adjacent to the small clinic is Jacinta’s Office. In her absence, the office door is not usually permanently padlock. Her Manager will always gladly serve and assist the many needy cases that stream in daily.
As locals and Narobians streamed in to join the celebration, Kenyan-Stockhlmers were not left behind. And when Jacinta lead her staff in a mugithi dance, Mr. Daniel Mwaura, the politician and Man Nzoro, the comedian, joined in merrily. Their families stood by, full of admiration. They celebrated the ultimate triumph of one of their own.
