According to initial reports emenating from the ”Jared Odero Solidarity Party” Committee, a total of 40,000 Swedish Kronors (Ksh 400.000) was raised by friends, well wishers and sympathizers following the death of Jared Odero’s father in Kenya.
The Party, which was well attended with DJ Jimmy spinning, provided a pointer to Kenya-Stockholm’s solidarity compass especially on the question of fund raising. A detailed report will follow later.
In the meantime, Jared will be leaving for Kenya on Tuesday next week to attend his father’s funeral. Speaking to KSB soon after the initial figures were announced, Jared sent his thanks to everybody who attended the Party. He said that the outcomes was evidence that “the harambee spirit lives”. The Committee was headed by Mr. Charles Otieno Owiyo, Chairman, Okoth Osewe, Secretary and Nathan Hassan, Treasurer.
Okoth Osewe
Jared deserves this. He’s always there when we need him. The harambee spirit lives, but life is also about give and take. My condolences again Jared. Have a safe journey. May Mzee’s spirit rest in peace.
This was a well done for Jared and cudos to them Kenyans who made this a reality, i agree with Rose, he deserves it, Jarre ni mtu wa watu, ni mtu wangu pia.
I dont know about the harambee spirit still living though? If it was then the last two unattended harambees could have been fruitful: This sends a very clear and loud message to Kenya-stockholm society, if you go to peoples harambee then be rest assured you will have people by your side when the table of bereavement turns; Like a pal of mine puts it, you cratch my back i cratch your back, as simple as that. Im not talking about making an appearance, which is also good but in such cases we need to support most with our wallets generously and whole heartedly to enable the bereaved to travel home. People keep up the hard work, personally i belong to i have my list group of people; Why? I came to realize no matter how many harambees you go to when it’s your turn you will only see those you deem close to you around, all those strangers you go to their harambee they never recall your act of empati, makes it feel like it was their right some what!so why bother??
