Following the assassination of George Paul Oulu (GPO) on 5th March 2009, family and friends have been meeting to arrange for the funeral arrangements. Several meetings have been held and a budget of 1 million was drafted in order to cater for the funeral expenses as well as the welfare of GPOs mother who is ill and whose hospitalization is currently urgent.
GPO was a young passionate individual who had many friends in the civil society organizations. Before his untimely death, GPO was working for Oscar Foundation, while he had served for long at the Youth Agenda and interacted through partnerships with many civil society organizations in Kenya.
Given the urgent need to raise funds for the funeral expenses and the welfare of his mother, a fund raising organized by family and the Kisumu Rural Constituency Member of parliament was held on Thursday 12th and only Kshs 200,000 was raised.
It is in this spirit that the committee of the CSO’s and friends has scheduled another fund raiser scheduled for Tuesday 17th March 2009 from 4.30PM at All Saints Cathedral Church along Kenyatta Avenue Opposite Serena Hotel.
This is to kindly invite you to the fund raising to give your contribution in order to raise the deficit to go towards the welfare of the GPO’s mother’s hospitalization as well as the outstanding funeral expenses. The guest of honor at the Fundraiser will be the Right Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga together with Key Civil Society Leaders.
Your presence and generous contribution will go further in assisting the family expend the expenses and to give GPO a heroes’ send off. The burial is scheduled for Friday 20th March 2009 in Holo Village of kisumu Rural Constituency. We look forward to your presence at the fund raiser.
