  2. @KSB community. Am writing from Nairobi; have been following the Kashito updates and wanted to thank the Kenyan community in Sweden for their harambee spirit and for ensuring that Mbithi (as Kashito is known at home) get’s a decent burial back home…..
Re: funds, a harambee was held at Sacred Heard Church Ngando village to offset the family’s trip to Sweden to ID Mbithi and bring him home.
We buried him on Friday, 28 November 2008 at Langata Cemetry, had beautiful celebration of Mass. We met his girlfriend Ruthie from Botswana…. Received tributes from the his Kenyan collegues in Sweden and Botswana. It was a celebration befitting a loving friend, brother, son.

The only bit that is unclear is the cause of his death…. Any updates from the Swedish authorities now that the three weeks are over? Much appreciated

  3. I am utterly perturbed by the commentators who are going for Osewe’s jugular, without scrutinizing the suspicious steps taken by the inner core of the Muirani-led Kashito Fundraising Committee.

I fully understand that Osewe is interested in exposing and debating the continuous impunity shown when certain committee members refuse to transparently account for such public funds. I think that no matter how boring this topic is, it will still be problematic and in future, Kenya-Stockholmers shall continue hearing similar rumors if those accountable are not challenged to come clean.

Mr. Osewe has upheld the dignity of the late Kashito, so this is not the issue, but rather, the non-transparent way that the Muirani-led committee handled the funds.

  4. What are we turning to we people in Stockholm? Mbona tumekosa utu? One of us have perished and all we can think of is how the family funded their ticket? Or how they transported the body? This is the time his family needed us most but what have we done? Its not always about money anybody who have lost a loved one knows that. All the family and friends need from us is compassion, understanding and respect for their late son resp. friend. Things happen for a reason Iam really happy that God oppened all his channels to enable the family to pull this off. Because judging from what is going it is a shame! The family and friends do not need to justify themselves to anyone as long as all was to the good of Kashito or the family. If you give, give with a clean heart otherwise its useless. I lost dear one and i know the hardest times come after the burial. We are not helping the situation lets show compassion. Today its Kashito tomorrow is someone else. To the commity members if there is something you did not agree on, Sort it out yourselves privately. Hatutaki kujua mengi! Haituhusu! Rest in Peace Kashito.

  5. Some people seem to be misunderstanding the Kashito case and misrepresenting perspectives. Look at someone like Willie whose venom is directed more at Osewe without stopping to examine issues. I have gone back to the Kashito stories and there is nowhere I can trace an attack on the Kashito family.

I don’t agree with Osewe on many issues but on this case, KSB has tried to protect the integrity of Kashito even in cases where a change of ID was being used to demonize him.

The same case applies to Carol Irungu whose contribution seeks to look for sympathy for the Kashito family with a message that the family should be left to mourn peacefully. No one needs to preach to readers here that the family needs to be left alone to mourn and I have not seen any evidence that anybody is disturbing the family.

What these two contributors are missing is that they are failing to separate the need for Kashito’s family to mourn in peace and the need for the Kashito Stockholm committee to tell Kenyans certain facts in the case for the sake of the future.

If the Hotel where Kashito was working gave 10,000 kr and if Kashito’s work colleagues and his boss contributed 27,000kr as Osewe’s story says, the bottom line in logic is not to attack the messenger but to establish whether the facts are true. Osewe is being fed by people who seem to know more than the Committee is saying and KSB is the media.

Going by the line that the funds may have been raised through Kashito’s employment connections, where is the credibility of the Committee that told Kenyans that money was raised by Kenyans in some mini harambees. This was a huge contribution and if the Committee failed to acknowledge it and to publicly thank Kashito’s boss together with his work colleagues, where are the ethics. Where else could money have come from which the Committee is not saying?

I don’t think that seeking this kind of truth will prevent Kashito from resting in peace or prevent his family from mourning. Committees are formed to first, deliver and then to account. The Kashito committee should come up and answer questions because Kashito will not be able to do it. Stick to the issues.
