Gerry Midenyo, a Kenyan who arrived at the Madaraka day reception last Sunday that suffered a serious boycott by the Kenyan community in Stockholm, has said that while at the residence, he told Ambassador Purity to call Kenyan children at the residence as a step towards getting to the Kenyan community.
Speaking to KSB on telephone, Gerry said that the problem with the Embassy is that the institution thinks that it can bembeleza Kenyans with alcohol without getting in touch with the community.
“It is for this reason that I went there with my drinks”, he said. Gerry added that the Embassy should understand that Kenyans have money to buy drinks and that the Ambassador should not expect to pull big Kenyan crowds in Stockholm with alcohol as the main incentive. “Kenyans deserve respect by the Embassy”, he said.
Turning to why he was at the event, he said that his main agenda was to walk on the land that was grabbed at the residence and given to a neighbor before it was recovered by ODM after a long campaign.
Even though he was sipping his own collection, Gerry said that at one point, he challenged the Ambassador to stop hiding drinks and give them to Wakenya who were there.
“When people were told to go away, I challenged the Ambassador to stop chasing people and produce more drinks so that Kenyans who had come could continue drinking and this was done as I continued to consume my drinks”, he said confidently.
Gerry also said that he criticized Kenyans who were not supporting Barrack Obama for his US Presidential bid, saying that such Kenyans are unpatriotic.
“Anybody who does not support Obama does not love Kenya because Obama’s Presidential bid is a big moment for Kenya. He congratulated Mr. Daniel Mwaura, Narc-Kenya Scandinavia Chairman, for supporting Obama saying that the issue of Obama support could help fight tribalism in Kenya.
