I have now finished harvesting the ”Week-end stories” to pack up the week at KSB. There were three major events: The Party at Norsborg Musikhuset where DJ Otieno V from the US was the Guest DJ, the memorial service/Fund raising session for Mr. Njoroge whose Mom passed away in Kenya and a secret Party at the residence of the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia for an outgoing Embassy official. A “KSB hanker” was at the Party to bring us the “inside edition”.
The Norsborg Party was good and DJ Otieno V gave Wakenya what they wanted. For a break, the hot blooded youth did not take over the Party. An explanation could be that this time round, there was no free entry before 22 hrs because the “Sound of Blackness” was hosting a DJ from the US and the organizers needed to mint some cash to pay up. It is a known fact that the Kenyan youth in Stockholm are “Punk” (poor) and one way of keeping them off is to eliminate the free entrance. They are too busy with their little allowances and coughing 60kr just to get into a Party is sheer luxury.
Those who pay normally arrive late in the night. KSB crew arrived at around mid-night, time when the dance floor was still virtually empty. This was in sharp contrast to days when you come in before 22 hrs and you just zoom in free. Under the “free entrance” arrangement, the dance floor is always seriously active by mid night. At Albyskolan, a West African Party was underway and this could have affected attendance at the Party. Another factor is that there were some Wakenya who were at Njoro’s place to console him so they couldn’t make it at the Party.
After a long time, I met pals like Oti Goga, Jamlik Muritu, Nashon Mbugua, Enock Otuga, Jacob Opande, Otieno Odera, Willy Nyambok and his wife, DJ Jimmy (who has something coming up), Mike Wambua, Bridget among others.
It’s long since I saw Grace Kamau who was with her best pal Susan Mukami, the Kesofo Chairlady. I also met Rapper Billy Boy but I did not manage to have a chat with him about his latest project. Billy made a brief performance although there seemed to have been some problems because of the DJ’s schedule.
I also shook hands with Clay Onyango who later complained at his site about “beggars” always asking for a drink at parties. It was the first time I was coming in contact with Clay since we had some inter-blog exchanges during the “Munala war” which has since been concluded. We didn’t talk much but a KSB contact told me last week that I am currently in Clay’s bad books. I thought the altercation was over after Clay called me during the “war”. I will wait and see. What is certain is that the anti-Clay missiles at KSB are safely in the armory and there are no plans for re-deployment to the front-lines because the threat level was lowered long time ago from “Red” to “Orange”.
FUNNY PROPOSALS
You always learn something new from Kenyan parties. Three ladies made special requests. One did not want to be named
at KSB because her husband did not know that she was at the Party – I told her to have a good time. What she was saying was that she was cheating. Another one had told her Swedish boyfriend that she was on a “night shift” and requested that in case pictures are being published, she need to be left out because she might enter into a “Romantic crisis” – she got her request.
The last one had a rather funny proposal – that I take the picture of her enemy “in a compromising situation” and publish it at the blog. This was turned down because the blog is not a forum for black mail, getting even or exposing Wakenya during close encounters that should be left private. Legally, there is nothing you can do to stop people from taking pictures at Kenya-Norsborg Parties and half a dozen cameras continued to flash throughout the night. Of cause, individuals can make special requests and that is the furthest it goes.
The policy at KSB is to use the pictures in a responsible way by avoiding scandal as much as possible and respecting privacy. Nobody would like the world to see them Wakikunjana on the dance floor.
There was a big debate about the KSB videos shot at the “Kenya Summer Jam” that were uploaded at Youtube. On Saturday, the “hot blooded dudes” were missing and so did the notorious “back hook”. The dancing styles were moderate (with a few exceptions) while the dominant view on the videos was that Wakenya need to accept the fact that there are different generations of the community in Stockholm especially at Kenyan parties. The idea about the “Wazee Hukumuka Party” is beginning to gain ground.
One thing I didn’t know is that remnants of the Liberated Young Kenyans (LYK) are currently fighting a “cold war” with KSB. I shake hands with people I have disagreed with (Clay, Munala) on certain issues. A Ring leader of the defunct LYK Movement avoided contacts and it looks like her spouse had also been given instructions to avoid contacts. For the first time at a Kenyan Party, he didn’t greet me and I just had to take it easy and digest the manipulation.
It is at Parties and other social forums when I get the real reaction of Wakenya about stories at KSB. Others communicate via email. A question that kept on creeping up is the identity of the Mfariasi who snatched the husband of another Kenyan lady by posing like a “religious counselor” from Bagarmossen Church. For the umpteenth time, I don’t make such revelations and if you don’t know or can’t find out, don’t ask me. I get information under strict confidentiality which cannot be violated otherwise my ever fertile sources will dry out.
It was good to get some feed-back about the graphic details published at KSB especially about the dressing styles of Kenyan ladies at Parties. While some thoughts had it that descriptions were entertaining, there is a breed that thought that the details were intimidating the girls and preventing them from “doing their thing”.
KSB CONCERNED WITH QUESTIONS OF LIABEL
The crux of the matter is that a description about “breasts tied up with ropes” could be linked to a specific girl while “a piece of cloth wrapped around the waist and called a skirt” could also be easily attributed if you were at the Party.
The end result is that once the subjects have been identified, they begin to get reactions from friends and this appears to be the problem. During the Sato Party, the lady who was in a tiny and tight white short trouser was “the star” of the Party at the dressing level. You could basically follow the configuration of her behind “right up to the valleys of her shrine” and this was incredible!
According to Linda Goldman, we are in the age of Aquarius ie “the age of information” and the gamble at KSB is between freedom of expression and what can be expressed. With the advent of the Internet, you can’t prevent people from saying what they have to say. At KSB, we are mainly concerned with questions of libel, character assassination and malice and as long as we are out of these brackets, you might never know what is up next. When we are at war, we don’t follow many rules!
Another funny reaction came from an unexpected quarter. A Kenyan bumped into me and claimed that I had written a story about the late diplomat James Kiboi claiming that the late died “inside the house of a prostitute”. When I asked him whether he had read the Kiboi stories, he answered “No”. I had to advice him to go through the stories and print out the section he was referring to before we could have a discussion. I know he will never come back!
The Party at Norsborg was good and Sound of Blackness needs support because it is currently filling a major vacuum in the Kenya-Stockholm Entertainment industry.
