Mr. Gerry Midenyo, a member of the Kenya Social Forum in Sweden (Kesofo) and head of “Wazee Hukumbuka Club” within Kesofo, has said that a proper memorial service should be organized in Stockholm for the late diplomat, Mr. James Kiboi who perished in Oslo in a house inferno on Sunday September 10th.
Speaking to Kenya Stockholm Blog, Mr. Midenyo said that it is the responsibility of the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm, Kesofo or a Funeral committee around Mr. Kiboi to ensure that the late diplomat’s body is not sent to Kenya without a Memorial service in Stockholm.
“Mr. Kiboi was a very social person who mingled with everybody. I have gathered that Kiboi’s body will be flown directly to Kenya from Norway. It will be a big mistake if a proper memorial service is not organized for the late Kiboi in Stockholm”, Mr. Midenyo told KSB.
The Kenyan said that Mr. Kiboi is one of the people who inspired the formation of Kesofo and stressed that if the Embassy is unable to organize the Memorial service, then Kesofo should do so because the organization has enough resources.
“We formed a Committee and organized a Memorial service for the late Juliet Kavinga. Why not do the same for Mr. Kiboi who was loved by everybody?”, he posed.
Mr. Midenyo said that due to circumstances, not everybody will be able to visit the late Kiboi’s family at their residence and that under the circumstances, a memorial service will enable many Kenyans and friends who interacted with Kiboi in life to remember him and condole with the bereaved family.
He warned that if the memorial service is not organized, then the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm, Kesofo or the people in charge of Kiboi’s funeral arrangements shall have failed in one of their major responsibilities.
Many Kenyans have been waiting for an announcement about a public function in relation to the late Mr. Kiboi but so far, nothing has come up.
