A Fund raising that was called on Saturday September 2nd by the Juliet Committee in Stockholm to raise funds for the transportation of Juliet’s body to Kenya netted 37.000 kr. This was the final amount after all expenses were accounted for. Speaking to Kenya Stockholm Blog, Mr. Daniel Mwaura, the Chairperson of the Committee, said that his Committee was satisfied with the result of the harambee.
“I take this opportunity to thank all Kenyans and friends who came together to help raise the funds”, said Mr. Mwaura. He also thanked members of the Committee whom, he said, worked tirelessly to ensure that the harambee succeeded.
The funds drive continued throughout the night with prominent Kenyan DJs – “Jey Jey”, Daddy and Jimmy – keeping the revelers on their toes until the wee hours of the morning. The Juliet Committee is planning a meeting before the end of the week to evaluate the harambee and to look into how the body can reach the family in Kenya.
“My Committee also thanks the Kenyan embassy for their enormous contribution and all individuals who have been working with the Juliet case like Heidi, Pastor Antonio Helena and Monica Bryan”, he said. Mr. Mwaura said that Juliet had died under tragic circumstances and that it was important that her body be transported to Kenya for burial.
The Committee has already taken contacts with different traveling agencies and burial companies to look into how Juliet’s body can be transported to Kenya as soon as possible. According to initial estimates, the cost of transporting the body stood at 40.000 kr. However, a burial company working closely with Active Cargo told Kenya Stockholm Blog that they could help transport the body at a lower rate depending on certain circumstances that had not been established at the time of going to press.
Juliet was murdered last May while her body was recovered last month floating in Lake Mälaren in Stockholm. Juliet’s suspected murderer is on trial while the case has attracted big media attention in Sweden.
