It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet Muthoni, a beloved Kenyan mother and grandmother residing in Stockholm, who departed this life on 23rd February at Dalens Hospital after a long illness. She was 73 years old.
Death has taken her physical presence, but it cannot erase the warmth she planted in the hearts of those who knew her. Her passing has cast a quiet shadow over her family, reminding us that loss is the price we pay for love, and mourning is the language through which the heart learns to heal.
Janet was not merely a person—she was a gathering place. She radiated kindness, lifted spirits with laughter, and created belonging wherever she stood. She never missed a Kenyan celebration, because she understood that joy was not accidental—it was something to be shared, protected, and multiplied. In her presence, people felt seen, accepted, and safe. In her absence, we now feel the fragile weight of silence, the kind that only time, memory, and love can soften.
She leaves behind her children, Rose Njeri Åström and Josephine Muthoni Mwaura, her grandchildren, Jessica Muthoni, Jane Wanjiku, and Rose Njeri Muthoni, and her great-grandchildren, Jace, Joyce, Naiylah, Ryan, Elizabeth, and Zemari.
The family humbly asks for prayers, strength, and solidarity during this painful season. A WhatsApp group has been established for friends, sympathizers, and well-wishers to mourn with the family, share memories, and offer support. Those wishing to be in touch may contact her granddaughter Jessica Muthoni at 076-065 86 70.
Though death has closed one chapter, it has not extinguished her light. Mourning is not the end of love—it is its continuation in another form. Healing will come slowly, carried on the shoulders of memory, community, and time.
Memorial service and funeral arrangements will be announced later. Until then, we stand together in grief, in remembrance, and in gratitude for a life that gave more than it ever took.
May Janet’s soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
