In a statement following claims by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) that he was out to rig the elections in favour of Jubilee alliance, Mr Kimemia said: “We have addressed all the malicious issues one by one and exposed the evil extent to which some people go to destroy innocent officers.”
Mr Kimemia asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vindicate him, Internal Security permanent secretary Mutea Iringo, Finance PS Joseph Kinyua and Kennedy Kihara, an official at the Office of the President.
“I have asked the chairman of IEBC to share and expose our response to Kenyans since we were accused, lynched and maligned publicly. It should also demand burden of proof from the “accusers” and prosecute those responsible for this falsehood,” said Mr Kimemia in a statement.
Contrary to media reports, Mr Kimemia said IEBC had not summoned him and he did not think chairman Isaack Hassan would do so through the media.
“IEBC should not allow this creative incitement, demonization of institutions and casual approach to the General Election,” he said.
Last week, Cord claimed that senior public officers were planning to rig the March 4 elections. This prompted the IEBC to write to Mr Kimemia to respond in 48 hours.
Cord further claimed that Mr Kimemia, National Intelligence Service director general Michael Gichangi and Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi were scheming to rig the elections in favour of Jubilee.
In his response to IEBC, Mr Kimemia said: “The allegations made against me and indeed other officers are very dangerous falsehoods. They are in fact defamatory, inflammatory, malicious, libel and highly injurious to my character reputation, dignity and standing in Kenyan society and beyond.”
He threatened to sue those who defamed him in the most “irredeemable” way.
In his response to the five items raised by Cord, Mr Kimemia gave a response backed with evidence. He said that on the dates he was alleged to have met with the Jubilee leaders, he was with President Kibaki in Othaya and attached a copy of the programme.
“Most of the vehicles they indicated we used, their registration numbers present a different picture. For instance the GKA 124S is a motorcycle belonging to Sabatia constituency development fund, GKA 111Q is a Landover station wagon belonging to the Ministry of Special Programmes,” said the report received by IEBC.
The other is a Mitsubishi station wagon belonging to the Ministry of Lands.
He attached a print out of search records in the report copied to among others Wiper secretary general Mutula Kilonzo, ODM secretary general Anyang Nyong’o and FORD-Kenya secretary general Dr Eseli Simiyu.
“It is important therefore, that thorough and urgent investigations are carried out, and results disseminated in similar fashion, to the eagerly anxious Kenyans and the wider audience.
“I request you clear my name and those of other officials so that careers of innocent officers are not jeopardised or ruined irredeemably and irretrievably. Issuing falsehood to IEBC must be deterred within the law,” said Mr Kimemia.
