  1. Habari yako.

Over the years, I have been greatly moved by the warmth and spirit – the strength and resolve – of the Kenyan people. And I’ve been grateful for my connection to Kenya, and the way you’ve welcomed me and my family to your beautiful country – from my father’s village in Alego, to bustling Nairobi.

In my visits, I’ve seen your progress. Kenya has lifted people from poverty, built an emerging democracy and civil society, and sustained a spirit of hope in the face of great difficulty.

After the turmoil of five years ago, you’ve worked to rebuild communities, reform institutions and pass a new constitution.

Now, Kenya must take the next step in March, with the first national elections under your new constitution.

We all know what makes for successful elections. Kenya must reject intimidation and violence, and allow a free and fair vote. Kenyans must resolve disputes in the courts, not in the streets. Above all, the people of Kenya must come together, before and after the election, to carry on the work of building your country.

The choice of who will lead Kenya is up to the Kenyan people. The United States does not endorse any candidate for office, but we do support an election that is peaceful and reflects the will of the people.

This election can be another milestone toward a truly democratic Kenya defined by the rule of law and strong institutions.

If you take that step, and reject a path of violence and division, then Kenya can move forward towards prosperity and opportunity that unleashes the extraordinary talents of your people – especially young people.

If you continue to move forward, you can build a just Kenya that rejects corruption, and respects the rights and dignity of all Kenyans.

This is a moment for the people of Kenya to come together, instead of tearing apart. If you do, you can show the world that you are not just a member of a tribe or ethnic group, but citizens of a great and proud nation.

I can’t imagine a better way to mark the 50th anniversary of Kenyan independence. And I say to all of you who are willing to walk this path of progress—you will continue to have a strong friend and partner in the United States of America.

  2. Some few years back GW bush through CIA recomended Former Iraqi Strongman Saadam Husein to occupy Quwait and he was granted and given green lights

After Hussein ordering a Britze Kreig again st his Republican Guards the USA President and Nato inclunding Western Powers led by the UK(united kingdom) got an Licence to occupy Iraqi and humiliate Sadam Hussein after using (exploiting) him in western War of Overthrowing Ayattolla Khomein of Iran .

Today USA President and the Intelligence is praising Kenya and changing tune concerning Uhuruto and the ICC case!

Lets wait and see Raila is potrayed as a weak capricious Communist leader by Uhuru Lackeys the so called (Mafia ) Gema thugs who controls Kenya wealth and their skinning system of the people of Kenya.

  3. Uhuru/Ruto axis of evil must be reminded that majority of the kenya people cannot allow themselves to be fornicated by Uhuru the way he has fornicated and impregnated Ruto politically!

  4. The Most Cunning tribe (chosen) Kikuyus must make sure Uhuru cons Ruto if both wins hence Ruto/Moi anti-Kikuyu evil axis is dangerous to Kikuyu Domination of Kenya tribes kikuyus should never forget and forgive kalenjins forever and ever>The deviousness of those away from the public limelight of the political campaigns know no bounds. Overheard on Sunday night at a Jubilee alliance cocktail held at the Windsor Golf and Country Club were five pro-Uhuru backers who are not enamored with his running mate—William Ruto. As far as they were concerned, they believe Uhuru should sideline Ruto as soon as they make it into State House!

  5. this message is very clear and only talks about conducting free and fair elections and stresses that it should be free of violence. it is the same message by all foreign govts

it is not endorsing or condemning any of the 8 presidential candidates

the reaction by jubilee is not surprising, they go into this election with the mindset that they have suspects leading their quest. as such they move every step cautiously and nervously expecting or anticipating some authority will call for their arrest or bar them from contesting. with such an insecure mindset, anytime they pass a gate and are not “arrested” they automatically assume to be endorsement of their bid.

a rather myopic and bleak outlook but it is what it is.

that’s why they don’t want anybody bringing up history or the past, because in that past we have PEV. they do not want land issues brought up because the land issues point at the two of them.

makes you wonder, are they targeting the youth, because the youth do not have clear memory of what is in the past, whereas older folk have the facts and details?

Obama’s statement is directly to the Kenyan people. Not via Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any political office, but a direct recording to Kenyan people.

PRAY, why do Jubilee Coalition leaders find it necessary to react to this statement with a counter statement?

I think it was unnecessary and unwittingly betrays their state of mind.

    Heheheee!!

I have just read a few reactions by the Jubilee brigade on the blogosphere to Obama’s message above and the UK take below on the forthcoming Kenyan elections and I must admit that the naivety of the bloggers is mind boggling!

    http://standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000076672&story_title=Kenya-UK-Govt-on-Polls-and-ICC

    http://intelligencebriefs.com/?p=3373

It is now being peddled by these bloggers that the UK and US have discerned a definite win by Uhuruto in the coming elections! See link below. Good grief! This is worse than self consolation amidst an impending catastrophe!! Do you really believe that the governments of the UK and US would make public their findings as to the probable outcome of an impending election? The most they can do is to give you the so called ‘exit polls’ right on the election day!!

    http://www.kenyan-post.com/2013/02/us-and-britain-predict-uhururuto-win.html

Let me state this in all clarity. The US and the EU will only work with Uhuruto ONLY IF the duo win in a free and fair elections and ONLY IF the duo continue to cooperate with the ICC!!

Any deviation from the two conditions above by the duo and Kenya lands in a quagmire. So folks (the Jubilee brigade) should be careful into reading too much from those US and UK messages. Those blocks of countries are not going to entertain impunity just for the sake of their so called ‘own interests’. NEVER!!

Please synthesise this statement by Ambassador Turner of the UK:

“Ambassador Turner said the ICC suspects were free to visit United Kingdom and had no sanctions imposed on them as yet.

“We support continued cooperation with ICC because we support the rule of law. We stand for justice for victims of Post election violence and our current policy is not to speculate on what will befall Kenya should suspects be elected to office,” Turner said.”

After which, please chew this one from President Obama:

“The choice of who will lead Kenya is up to the Kenyan people. The United States does not endorse any candidate for office, but we do support an election that is peaceful and reflects the will of the people.“

    But what do I know!

    Einstein, Adongo and others,

Forget the nutcases trying to distort President Obama’s simple message. They are trying to spin liquid –looking all pathetic in the process.

Here are the five (5) things I deciphered from President Obama’s address:

    1) “Kenya must reject intimidation and violence [during the elections]“.

The U.S. President is obviously reflecting his updated grasp of the issues surrounding elections in Kenya, such as the link between intimidation and violence. A prime example of political intimidation (tied to promised violence) that Obama is warning against is the kind of myopic ‘deal’ that Jubilee’s Sam Ongeri was trying to “broker” between the Abagusii and Kipsigis..

ati the Abagusii to vote for Jubilee to “guarantee peace” of their brethren in Rift Valley.

That is the kind of dangerous politics that could officially sanction promised violence. The Abagusii must never be held at ransom, ati to vote with the Kalenjin or else…’there will be no peace’. What kind of dangerous politics and intimidation is that? Every Kenyan should be allowed to exercise their democratic will whichever way they wish. A clear majority of the Abagusii are right now CORDED. Why should they be intimidated (through coded promises of violence) to change their conscientious preference?

Of course the Jubilee propagandists would want to either gloss over or spin this timely word of caution from President Obama.

Another Prime example is the misguided and desperate attempt by Ethnic Cohesion Chair – Mwalimu Kibunja and newly installed Inspector General of Police – Shadrack Kimaiyo to intimidate Kenyans against exercising their inalienable democratic right to free speech on matters regarding land and landlessness. When President Obama urges Kenyans to reject intimidation, what the heck do these Jubilee folks think the U.S. President is talking about?

Obama is asking Kenyans to reject being intimidated against discussing land matters and other issues that concern them. Landlessness is one of the biggest issue of our time in Kenya. How the heck can an election proceed without discussing one of the top socio-economic issues of the day?

Thanks to ubiquitous intelligence, President Obama is well aware that the head of Kenya’s civil service Francis Kimemia, and Inspector General of Police Shadrack Kimaiyo, met Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto just a night prior to release of the twin gag-statements by Kibunja and Kimaiyo –purporting to block any speeches on land and landlessness during political campaigns.

Kenyans will surely reject such illegal and unconstitutional orders being made for partisan political purposes. Like President Obama urges, Kenyans will surely not be intimidated against dissecting land matters…for instance questioning how Uhuru Kenyatta’s family came to own all these 500, 000 acres of prime arable land?

On October 1, 2004 the Standard’s lead story was on how the Kenyatta family is reputed to own 24,000 acres in Taveta, 50,000 acres in Taita, 29,000 acres in Kahawa Sukari, 10,000 acres in Gatundu, 5,000 acres in Thika, 9,000 acres in Kasarani, and 10,000 acres in Naivasha.

The newspaper also quoted another 52,000 acres in Nakuru, 20,000 acres in Bahati, 10,000 acres in Rumuruti, and 40,000 acres in Endebbes.

There was also mention of 100 acres in Karen and 1,000 acres in Dagorreti. The paper explained that this land was acquired during the 15-year reign of Uhuru’s father, Jomo Kenyatta.

    `

    2) “Kenya must allow a free and fair vote”

This is a direct message from President Obama principally to Isaak Hassan and the IEBC, and secondarily to the incumbent out-going President Mwai Kibaki. IEBC Commisioners and secretariat are politely being reminded that the entire world, including President Obama is watching how they conduct these elections.

If Isaak Hassan is truly a patriotic son of Kenya with wisdom to learn from Kivuitu’s mistakes — he would carefully heed Obama’s word of advice; summon all his returning officers and read them the riot act. He would remind them the harsh penalty of abetting electoral malpractices such as the hanky-panky games involving Form A-16s. He is being urged to ensure a free and fair election.

Obama’s use of the word “allow” can only be directed to one person. Obama is telling the only person with top authority over government – Mwai Kibaki – to ALLOW a free and fair vote. Kibaki is not being begged to allow it — he is being told he “MUST ALLOW” it, period! It is what it is!

    3) “The U.S. does not endorse any candidate for office”.

The U.S. President in his own political wisdom is definitely stemming the sprouting of more propaganda that has been emanating from Jubilee quarters…along the lines of “oh Obama, the U.S., and U.K., Kofi Annan, Hillary Clinton, are all supporting Raila Odinga…trying to impose a leader on Kenya…yada yada yada…”

Both the U.S., and U.K. (with one of the best intelligence systems in the world) know who the clear front-runner in this election is. They definitely are comfortable with it and don’t wish to rock any boat. They will distance themselves as far away as possible, to play the ‘neutral’ card. Those who live in the West know the strategic importance of such gestures.

    4) “The U.S. supports an election that reflects the will of the people”

This is yet another direct message to Isaak Hassan and the IEBC –warning against rigging and subversion of the democratic rights’ of (some or most) Kenyans (either by omission or commission).

In the State Department website are archives of the U.S. position in 2008, with one particular stinging report which stated (paraphrased) — Kenyans peacefully went to the elections in 2007, voted for change, but were given more status quo.

IEBC is being told to safeguard the democratic rights’ of Kenyans and not serve the narrow interests of a few anti-reformists “mashetanis”.

    5) “Show the world that you are not just a member of a tribe or ethnic group, but citizens of a great nation”.

Anyone reading between the lines will quickly realize that this is a direct indictment on the very doctrine of the Jubilee campaign — premised on “tribal numbers”.

President Obama is directly talking to the Kenyan people, especially the youth, urging them to use their conscience as individual citizens — and not members of a tribe. He is asking Kenyans to realize they are citizens one nation called Kenya…a nation that either rises together or falls/collapses together.

For instance, should economic sanctions come Kenya’s way as a result of election outcome & ICC-non-cooperation, it will not matter whether you are Kalenjin, Kikuyu, Luhya, or Luo….sanctions will indiscriminately bite people of all tribes and ethnic groups.

If Western companies decide to relocate from Kenya –I will give you a list of such companies below — employees to lose their jobs will come from virtually every corner of the country.

You could be a Kikuyu working at Barclays or Pfizer, who proudly votes for Uhuru Kenyatta only to subsequently lose your job as a result of economic sanctions necessitated by Uhuru’s ICC conundrum. In short, membership of a tribe may not usurp the role as citizen of a bigger nation.

As Jubilee propagandists try spinning these timely and straight-forward words of caution from a concerned friend with Kenyan blood (President Obama) — let the people chew about how much invested the West is in Kenya. Here (below) is a list of economic sectors tied-to and companies owned-by the West, that directly or indirectly employ millions of Kenyans.

If you are employed in the tourism, hospitality, tea, coffee, horticulture, airline, finance and banking, international humanitarian, auto, or other import and export sectors, you may lose your job or business contract should Western-imposed economic sanctions hit Kenya.

You may lose your job if you are employed by a Western corporation like:

Barclays, Standard Chartered Bank, StanChart Finance, East African Breweries, British-American-Tobacco (BAT), Old Mutual, Citibank, Coca Cola, General Electric, IBM, Google, Boston Consulting, Intel, Mastercard, Cisco, Rockefeller, Sage Group, Motorola, Pfizer, Pricewaterhouse, British American Insurance, BASF, Nescafe, Unilever, Eltech, CIBA, Chartis, Qualcom, Xerox, Shell-BP, Chevrolet, ITI, Stratlink Global, Sterling, Eveready, Visa Inc, Wellcome, Safaricom (Vodafone) – including MPESA agents, Microsoft, Hilton Hotel, Serena, Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Other Int’l hotel chains, Sasini Tea, Sasini Coffee, Delmonte, Oserian, Finlays, Sher-Karuturi , Homegrown, Flamingo Exports, Kakuzi, Rea Vipingo, Unilever Tea, Williamson Tea, Limuru Tea, Kapchorua Tea, Eaagads Coffee, Kenya Orchards, Kenya Airways, Tullow Oil, CMC Motors, General Motors, Car and General, Crown Berger, East African Oxygen (BOC), Carbacid, Baumann; International NGOs , International entities like World Bank (K), IMF, ICAO, UN, GTZ, Red Cross, and others.

Voting may mean a little more than tribe this time. It may very well mean your imminent ability to put Ugali on the table. This election will have economic consequences…either trending towards or away from the Zimbabwean, Sudanese direction

  6. Well u agree with the US president’s statement that the people of Kenya have the choice on what learder they want, the American governmnet is supporting peaceful elections. Kenya should focus ahead stop this demostration that ends up killing people and spoiling properties…Kenya should not rely on destroying of propeties, The country is bigger than individual and by that Kenya should embrace peaceful elections.

The govt is being cheap and esly conned by Asian and Chinese superiours whosr Brain Iqs is much bigger than Kenyans Ape-like brains>Third world is swamped with fake TB drugs
PARIS, Feb 5 – Africa, India and other developing countries are awash in fake or sub-standard drugs for tuberculosis, fuelling the rise of treatment-resistant strains of TB, according to a survey published on Tuesday.

Investigators in the United States asked local people in 19 cities in 17 countries to purchase isoniazid and rifampicin, the frontline antibiotics for TB, from a private-sector pharmacy.

The samples were then examined by chromatography, a technique that detects chemical signature, for their active ingredient.

They were also tested for disintegration, to see if they properly broke up in water at body temperature within 30 minutes.

Out of 713 samples, 9.1 percent failed these basic quality control tests, according to the probe, published in the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Around half of the failed samples had zero active ingredients, “making them likely to contribute to drug resistance,” it said.

Resistance to TB drugs develops when treatment fails to kill the bacteria that causes it — either because the patient fails to follow their prescribed dosages or, as in this case, the drug doesn’t work.

It can also be contracted through rare forms of the disease that are directly transmissible from person to person.

Dud drugs were manufactured by legitimate companies and criminal fraudsters, said the report.

The pharmacies where the drugs were purchased were in Luanda, Angola; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Beijing, China; Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo; Cairo, Egypt; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Accra, Ghana; Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata, India; Nairobi, Kenya; Lagos, Nigeria; Moscow, Russia; Kigali, Rwanda; Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; Bangkok, Thailand; Istanbul, Turkey; Kampala, Uganda; and Lusaka, Zambia.

The failure rate was 16.6 percent in Africa, 10.1 percent in India and 3.9 percent in Brazil, China, Thailand, Turkey and Russia.

Nearly nine million people around the world have TB, including more than 400,000 with a multidrug-resistant form of the disease, according to estimates for 2011 compiled by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

TB is one of the world’s deadliest diseases. It is spread from person to person through the air and usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body such as the brain and kidneys.

  11. Dec. 2010

“If The Hague is our misfortune we are the authors of our own misfortune…
I shouted myself hoarse from the dispatch box lobbying for a local tribunal
    as members walked out.”

    Martha Karua to Parliament yesterday.

Not even the presence of President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga in
Parliament on the afternoon of February 12, last year,
was enough to persuade the MPs to agree to the formation of a special tribunal.

That was on the afternoon of February 12, last year, when MPs shot down the
Constitution of Kenya (amendment) Bill, which would have paved the way for the
    creation of a special tribunal.

At one time when then Nairobi Metropolitan Minister Mutula Kilonzo, now the
Justice Minister, likened the failure to establish a tribunal to paying homage
to mandarins of impunity, an MP shouted: “Watapanda ndege!” (Let them be flown
    out!).

Chepalungu MP Isaac Ruto, the architect of the Motion this week to repeal the
International Crimes Act and have the country sever links with the ICC, is among
those who voted against the constitutional amendment.

So did Rift Valley MPs allied to Eldoret North MP, William Ruto, and a section
of central Kenya legislators now infuriated by the action by ICC Prosecutor Luis
Moreno-Ocampo to name six prominent individuals against whom he has filed two
    cases over post-election violence.

Water Assistant Minister Ferdinard Waititu, who joined a demonstration in the
city on Friday, to condemn the ICC, was among those who rejected the tribunal in
    favour of The Hague.

In Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Raila Odinga told the Chepalungu MP:
“You said let us not be vague; we want The Hague. You are the one who took us to
    The Hague.”

But while moving the Motion to cut links with the ICC earlier, Ruto had
clarified his move should not be misconstrued to imply he now embraced the
    special tribunal.

Yesterday, Metropolitan Minister Robinson Githae said he has changed his mind
because Ocampo was no longer fair and has politicised the process.

“Ocampo’s naming of the suspects shows that we (Kenyans) can do better than what
he did,” noted Githae, in a phone interview.

He wondered how former Commissioner Hussein Ali’s name and that of the Head of
Civil Service, Francis Muthaura, were included in the list.

Githae said were it not for Ali, Nairobi would have been looted, adding the
former police commissioner secured the metropolis against looters. Ndaragwa MP
Jeremiah Kioni, who seconded Ruto’s Motion, had voted for the Bill to establish
    the tribunal.

Such was the Government determination to avoid The Hague option that the Office
of the President had sent out letters to ministers and assistant ministers
instructing them to attend the crucial session.

The letter written by the Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura sparked
controversy, with Ikolomani MP Bonny Khalwale suggesting it would intimidate
    members.

But Karua countered the Government had the right to whip members in whichever
    manner it pleased.

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka added the President and Prime Minister meeting on
the eve of the vote had issued the directive. Speaker Kenneth Marende ruled it
was proper since it was addressed to members of the Government.

All Cabinet ministers, including Henry Kosgey, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto,
who were among those named by Moreno-Ocampo on Wednesday, voted for the
constitutional amendment to create the tribunal. Members of Government who
defied collective responsibility to reject the constitutional amendment included
then Medical Services Assistant Minister, Danson Mungatana, and Wilfred Machage.

Then the opposition to local trials was widely considered a marriage of
    convenience.

Some members genuinely feared a local tribunal could be subverted by powerful
    figures.

Others were determined to shield political allies in the mistaken belief The
Hague would take ages to act, and yet others were ambivalent.

During debate on Thursday, Karua reminded members their actions two years ago
had returned to haunt them, as she opposed the Motion to withdraw from the ICC
    on constitutional grounds.

“If The Hague is our misfortune we are the authors of our own misfortune.

“I shouted myself hoarse from the dispatch box lobbying for a local tribunal as
members walked out,” Karua told jeering members.

The MPs can only rue the missed opportunity and they wish they had heeded the
call for a local judicial mechanism by the likes of Mohammed Abdikadir, then
chairman of the Justice and Legal Affairs committee.
