It was on Sunday, November 11th 2012 in Kenya when my sister Liz went to shower to prepare to go to church. According to her children, they heard their mother shouting “kichwa” after which they heard another sound as if something had fallen on the floor.
My sister has two sons aged seventeen and fourteen and following the commotion in the bathroom, they dashed in to investigate what was amiss. When they got access to the bathroom, they found their mother prostrate on the floor with foam oozing from her mouth. Shocked at the sudden development, the boys did not know what to do immediately. After a few minutes, they decided to ring one of their aunts who quickly arrived at the scene and took my sister to hospital in Westlands.
Unfortunately, before the doctors could attend to her, the hospital demanded Ksh 100.000 in admission fees. The doctors also established that my sister needed an urgent x-ray examination in the head. The young boy, together with their aunt could not immediately raise the amount of money that was demanded by the hospital while they also became confused because they had rushed my sister there expecting immediate medical attention.
In the ensuing moments, they decided to transfer my sister to Kenyatta National Hospital where an x-ray examination was eventually conducted. The x-ray result revealed that my sister had suffered a severe internal hemorrhage in the brain but by the time this diagnosis was reached, it was too late to save her life. She died on Tuesday, 13th November at 1.00 am thereby plunging the whole family into deep mourning. She was a loving mother, sister and relative who will greatly be missed by all those who knew her.
Following the death, the burial is set for Saturday, 24th November and I intend to travel to Kenya on Monday, 19th November in order to attend the funeral. My sister, who was 43 years old, is survived by her two sons and her husband. May her soul Rest in eternal Peace.
