According to latest reports, bookings for Cabins for the October 6th 2012 Miss Africa Crown aboard Birka Cruise is running out fast and the perspective is that by the end of next week, the boat will be fully booked. The four bed cabins have been the most popular because at about 740kr per bed (the price includes dinner at 380kr and entry into the Miss Africa event hall at 200kr), they are the cheapest and most convenient for groups and families seeking fun across the Baltic Sea.
At the time of going to blog, there were just about 40 four-bed cabins remaining while booking these cabins (at 740kr) online has now been officially closed. To book the cabins, customers have to call Birka Cruise at +46 (0) 8-702 72 30 and give the Miss Africa code of “SAMISS” to get a booking. Once the four-bed cabins are all booked, there will be no option but to go for the 1-2-3 bed Cabins (which are more expensive) for customers who still want to be part of Miss Africa Crown 2012. Any booking with the code includes entry into the event hall and dinner.
A wrist band for entry into the event hall will be provided at the ticket collection point before going on board and anybody without this band will not enter the event hall under any circumstance. Unlike last year, there will be no ticket sales at the entrance of the event hall and anybody who fails to get a wrist band at the ticket point will miss out on the Miss Africa event where tight security will be at hand to deal with any cheaters. Revellers who may have booked without the SAMISS code are strongly warned to check with Birka Cruise personnel to avoid last minute disappointments. The Miss Africa Crown management will not be responsible for any inconveniences in the boat arising out of wrong bookings neither will there be any possibility of correcting any booking errors on board.
In 2010, the finals took place aboard Siljaline while last year’s finals were staged at Vikingline where twenty six African beauties battled it out before Jessle from Uganda emerged as the winner. Jessle was crowned by Michelle Jeng from Tanzania who was the inaugural winner of the event in 2010.
This year, the event will reach its climax on 6th-7th October at Birka Cruise where beauties from 20 African countries will try to cat-walk their way to victory in front of an expected crowd of over 1000 people.
The winner will take home a Luois Vuitton bag worth 5.000 kr, Make-up kit from Mist Stockholm, a top fashion dress from “A Piece of Africa” fashion group, a trip to an African country of choice sponsored by the Ethiopian Airlines, a professional photo-shoot and a mobile phone. This year, the event has attracted three contestants from the United Kingdom.
A part from the coronation of Miss Africa beauty queen, other prizes that will be available for scoops will be: Miss Elegant, Miss Photogenic, Miss Intelligence, Miss Diligence, Miss Heritage and Miss Bling-Bling.
Before the girls can proceed for the finals aboard Birka Cruise, they will be presented to the audience at a huge “Presentation Party” in Alvik’s Medborgahuset on Friday, 6th October from 18.00 hrs. The event will be followed by an all-night disco before revelers relocate to Birka for the big Miss Africa contest.
All-Night Boogie and Fashion Show
There is massive interest in the event especially among the African community and Swedes who love everything African. In fact, the popularity of the event is underlined by the fact that only a few cabins are still available for booking at Birka Cruise where the finals will be staged. Hundreds of enthusiastic Miss Africa Crown fans are waiting to be entertained throughout the night as they experience the coronation of Miss Africa Crown 2012.
The Judges for the event have been carefully chosen. On the Panel will be: Justine Mutale, Founder & CEO of Perryfield Promotions, an award-winning International PR, Media, Business Intelligence and Event Management Consultancy firm incorporated in England and Wales; Shaul Moalem, Director of the Make-Up Institute in Stockholm which is one of the leading make up schools in Europe; Brawer Madina, an English teacher in Stockholm while the final panelist will be Lillian Mbova, an accomplished diplomat based in Sweden.
A key attraction during the event will be the Disco DJs: EZ Frank and Safi of “Sound of Blackness”, the biggest mobile disco group in Scandinavia. To Spice it up, “Eaa Dance Group”, which has been rocking the whole of Scandinavia over the past two years, is the group which will showcase some of the most complicated African dancing styles that have hit the stage in the last six months.
Apart from the battle of the beauties that will swallow much of the evening, a fashion show featuring latest African attires displayed by some of the most titillating African models in Scandinavia, is also scheduled. These top of the range African models will be displaying the hottest African designs ever created by the fashion company, “A Part of Africa”, which is known for unique styling, elegant fashion concepts and an excellent collection in the African fashion industry in Scandinavia.
Miss Africa Crown contest is a grass-roots concept that was mooted by a group of Africans and Swedes who believe that there is a big vacuum within the African fashion industry in Scandinavia which needs to be filled. The group then created the “Ritz Society”, a social group which works with integration issues. Miss African Crown is one of the many events organized by the Ritz Society.
The idea to start the beauty pageant was driven by the fact that African beauties in Scandinavia have no outlet through which they can penetrate the fashion and modelling industries in Scandinavia which has, traditionally, been very competitive and Eurocentric thereby putting African aspirants at great disadvantage.
Through Miss Africa Crown, the agenda of the organizers is to celebrate African beauty, expose aspiring African models to the fashion and modeling market and to make girls of African origin in Scandinavia proud of their identity, personality and culture.
