Plans for body transportation to Kenya in progress

According to a preliminary report, 38.000 kr (Ksh 467.000) was raised at the George Obor fund raising that was held on Saturday, March 24th 2012. Out of this amount, 35.567 kr was raised in cash while a balance of about 2.400 kr will be realized when the stock of drinks that were not consumed are converted into cash later today. So far, three Kenyans have made pledges totaling to 3.500kr and the Committee will make a follow up of the pledges and report accordingly.
Following the funds drive, the George Obor Committee would like to inform the public that it has established contacts with a Funeral agency which can transport Obor body to Kenya with at most 40.000 kr. This means that there will be no further public fundraising because the estimation of the Committee is that financing transport of Obor’s body to Kenya is now within its reach without a second round of a public harambee.
The Committee will meet on Wednesday March 28th at Obor’s residence to discuss an “internal fundraising” to finance two tickets (estimated at 10.000kr) for Obor’s wife and daughter. The contribution book is still open and those willing to contribute can do so by making a deposit at Peter Ongolo’s account at Swedbank: 8327-923419540-2 or by contacting the Chairperson, Mr Jared Odero at 0735450203 for further instructions on how to deliver contributions.
On behalf of the Committee, Mr. Jared Odero, the Chairperson of the George Obor Committee, would like to thank all Kenyans, friends, sympathizers and well-wishers who turned up at the harambee and all those who sent their contributions. The Committee also thanks all those who made pledges including everybody who worked tirelessly to ensure that enough funds are raised to achieve the mission of transporting Obor’s body to Kenya for burial.
Further, the Committee would like to announce that a date for a Memorial service in Stockholm for the late George will be announced by the Committee as soon as it is established so that friends can remember George and pay their last respects before the body is transported to Kenya for burial. Further updates on progress about body transportation to Kenya will also be reported through KSB and other available channels.
