Kenyan poet and performer in conversation with Stefan Helgesson, literary scholar Stockholm University:
Ngwatilo Mawiyoo is an innovative Kenyan poet and performer. She combines the written word with the speaking voice, poetry with song, into what she calls “puesic”. Ngwatilo lived for a while in Johannesburg, studying the South African kwaito scene, and has since become one of Nairobi’s most distinctive poetic voices. Her work has also attracted international interest, and she has been introduced to the Swedish public in issue no. 2-3 (2010) of the journal 10TAL. The conversation at NAI will be a unique opportunity to learn about Ngwatilo’s work and contemporary Kenyan writing.
