Kenyans, friends and well-wishers are invited to a Memorial service for the late Mr. Patrick Kimondo who passed away on Tuesday 18th January 2011. According to a message transmitted by Mr. David Nyori, one of Kimondo’s closest and long-term friends, the Memorial service will take place on Saturday, 29th January 2011 at St Emmanuel Church in Central Stockholm. The service will be held between 15.00-18.00 hrs. Mr. Nyori welcomed everybody to the service.
The event will put to rest calls by Kimondo’s friends that a Memorial service be held for him before he is finally laid to rest. According to information obtained by KSB, Mr. Kimondo left a Will that he be buried in Sweden where he lived during the better part of his life, having settled in Sweden in the 60s. Sources close to the Will added that the departed Kenyan wished to be buried next to his wife’s grave in Stockholm.
KSB has also established that Mr. Kimondo’s brother is expected to attend the funeral, news that will, most likely, be welcomed by Kenyans who hoped that a family member from the motherland would be present during the funeral.
Following Kimondo’s death, KSB agents have been monitoring developments very closely because of the huge interest a cross section of Kenyans had shown in the story.
At first, indications were that the Memorial service would be held at a Lokal in Bagarmossen where Kenyans congregated when Kimondo’s wife passed away but later, the situation seem to have changed with the service being switched to Emmanuel Church.
Although he lived a quiet life, Mr. Kimondo was liked by Kenyans who knew him. His passing is a huge blow to those who knew him and who interacted with him at close quarters. He was full of wisdom and was known to guide the youth he came into contact with at every opportunity.
After the death of James Wuod Maggero and Moussa Awuonda, Mr. Kimondo is the third prominent Kenyan whose body will be interred in Sweden since January 2007.
Traditionally, many Kenyans who pass away in Stockholm have had their bodies transported to Kenya for burial, the latest having been that of Mr. Aurther Opot who passed away in November 2005 and Mr. Arnold Okaka who passed away last year.
