I am the tall, rude, drunk woman referred to in the comments. I am not a member of the organization so I have no clue about the organizing of the event and who was doing what, but I thought I should say something since I am mentioned here several times and people are obviously very upset.
First:
I apologize to everyone, and especially to the guy I accused of getting free alcohol, I was not intending to be malicious.
There is no excuse, but by way of explanation – I had not eaten that day and I think I ate one sandwich the day before since we were busy with cooking during those two days and I didn’t have time to eat, then I forgot that I was drinking on an empty stomach.
Second:
I was not performing instead of Atommy, we were waiting for the next act to perform and everyone was sitting staring at an empty floor and I thought it might be fun to get kids up to do something rather than just have people staring at an empty space, I also did not want to be bored myself. People went onto the floor to dance shortly afterward. That was the sole purpose of that. Unfortunately I had already had beer on an empty stomach.
Third:
As far as I know reasons for Atommy not showing up are that after missing two flights he was unable to find anything on stand-by.
Further details:
He missed the first flight that was booked because apparently there was a visa problem. A second flight was booked and apparently when he got to the airport that flight was over-booked, so he couldn’t fly in on it.
I spoke with Atommy on Saturday morning, privately, not on behalf of the organization, but to check whether things were ok and I found them at home.
That’s when he explained to me that the second flight was overbooked and he was unable to get on it and that they then went back home. I advised them to go to a bigger airport and look for any stand-by flight and call and the organizer who could then pay for it by credit card over the phone.
(I later updated the organizer on the matter)
I also spoke with Atommy’s manager and I advised him that if they could not find the organizer, once they found a flight, they could call me as a back-up and I could pay for it myself (I am not a member of the organization, but I was certain any refunds could be sorted out later).
Neither the organizer nor I got the call.
Even when I left a little after midnight, I still thought there was a chance he could come, since it’s only a two hour flight. The next morning I asked whether he had arrived, and learned that he hadn’t. I’ve heard rumors that there was no visa problem and there was no overbooked flight. I am treating those rumors as just that – rumors.
This was an unfortunate series of events and I apologize again for getting so drunk.
-Tall, rude, previously drunk woman.
KSB: Kudos, tall, brave woman for this report. It is people like you who can build Kenya. When mistakes are made, they need to be accepted and apologies delivered as a basis for moving on. With such a clear explanation, the revellers could have been updated. Have a nice day.
Tall woman:
A good shot at Damage Control. Just make sure that next time you eat properly before you imbibe huge quantities of alcohol. The act of you “performing” instead of Atommy, is a euphemism for the drama you caused on the dance floor – falling and being picked up.
On the Atommy issue, the main organizer should have informed the revelers in good time that he had missed his flight. If I were to bring a musician from abroad, the first thing would be to check his/her viza status. Am assuming Atommy is in Germany, which is within the Schengen area. Thus, he does not require a viza to enter Sweden, which is also a member country. The viza defense is therefore weak.
An insider confirmed that the root cause of Atommy’s failed flight to Stockholm was due to the unavailable cash to pay him after the planned performance, since the Maendeleo account had already been frozen. You will dismiss this a mere rumors, but as a reveler, I still ask why the main organizer confirmed via Makosewe’s SMS early Saturday that Atommy would be there. Sounds pretty fishy.
Apart from you, who is not even a member of Maendeleo, the organizer should have taken an official position to deal with Atommy’s attempts to fly to Stockholm. When he came for the first concert, KSB posted a picture confirming his arrival. The most prudent thing would have been to invite him last Friday in good time before getting entangled with the claimed overbooked flights. He would have definitely not missed a place to sleep in Märsta before Saturday. I call this poor planning!
Tall drunk woman, now that you have sobered up, your reply reflects the dark side of your involvement as an outsider in matters that don’t concern you.
Why were you willing to pay for Atommy’s flight yet you are not a member of Maendeleo ya Wanawake? Your reponse has confirmed some of the rumors spreading that the main organizer did a “one woman show” when inviting Atommy. Her arrogance made her go solo on some decisions which have now ended up negatively for her. This is also partly why most of the Committee members did not attend the event, so she resorted to using her relatives and loyal friends.
This tall woman is a known drunkard so there is nothing she is defending about having drunk on an empty stomach last sato. Good she has taken a humble approach here otherwise her wardrobe is full of squeaking skeletons which can be released to the public any time. The main organizer should have caged her at home to avoid her unruly nature mbele ya wageni after tons of booze.
Kwenda zako tall mlevi woman. You cannot convince us because your anti-social behavior combined with excessive alcohol intake is well-known. You recently insulted a visiting relative of a Kenya-Stockholmer by calling her a slave in marriage. We know so much about your empty marital life so just pipe down and show respect to other married women.
