  1. Kudos!,Shiko.your discriptive observations of Nairobi night life and its “SODOM AND GOMORAH” activities involving gold diggers……and the “RAT “like lifestyle to go with it, is well portrayed in your narrative.i might add that in the quest of looking for easy lifestyle, one never laeaves un-scarthed.In the game of life it is your positive human and humane subconcious that prevails.I summise by saying LETA MORE STORIES SHIKO.

  2. I didn,t know that this rot was also in Nairobi. We normally associate these kind of behaviours with the coast so thanks for puting it into light.I must say that I am suprised by the response to your article and have been wondering why are comments so arid this time while you write such an informative article?I cant help thinking that most people got what they were not waiting for namely gossip and vitriol on your former. The seats were warm for the blogg version of jerry springer show.hahaha

    KSB: Well said.

  3. Noll åtta, you have surely cracked me up. There are crowds at KSB that thrive in “sordid avarice” because they thrive in dirt and enjoy stabbing their perceived enemies hard in the back while laughing all the way to the loo. When challenged by such splendid writing from Shiku, they simply get sick since their brains can’t absorb the high level of abstraction.

  4. Shiku, your informative piece has prompted me to read more about “the other side” of Nairobi, and one story has shocked me. It bears the testimony of a male prostitute whose customers include top religious leaders in Kenya. Boys as young as 12 years old also engage in prostitution. Read on…

“John Mathenke was once arrested for being gay but, after failing to pay the customary bribe, was forced to have sex with the policeman. He had an orgy with a priest who publicly excoriates homosexuality, along with five other Masaai boys. And his Arab trader clients curse him during the day, but come back looking for sex at night”.

  5. if we reallly want to live as community, then whats is it wrong for kutafuta wampenzi? just cheki huyu dame moment 151…??? dame mpoa ama

  6. its Sad Mombasa sex endemic flew non stop to Nairobi. But while we blame all this sex mannarism on poverty, dont you think we should blame it on the victims mind thinking? why should you live a life you cant afford?

@ Munyoti, Nothing wrong with kuhanyana, but the outcome is ugly, especialy when our future leaders are tarnishing their lives. On your note,in today’s paper-star, a bishop in Kisumu was caught in a hotel with a cop’s wife-by the cop.Following a tipoff, the cop stormed the hotel, but the receptionist was reluctunt to let him to the room. The cop flushed out his pistol and the receptiosnist fled off. He got them doing their favorite. They say, stolen goodies are sweet and juicy.

He caused a commotion that attracted a big crowd, especially the youth who are always ready to `stone’ act. This time they dint throw stone, but forced the lovers to strip and walk around the city naked. With blood oozing from their bodies, they were forced to halt and kiss. At the police station,no case could be filed. It was annouced that, its very legal for two married people to hanya each other as long as they have an agreement. Interesting!

What followed when the woman got home, only the devil-her lawyer can reveal. But honestly,I did admire this cop. Many in such situations, like we have heard before, shot to kill. They dont have time for embarrassing the lovers.

For the bishop, obviously he went to his wife with the explanation of ” you know I dont love her,Its the devil who attacked my mind, lets just fast and pray.”

    Arent men lucky?

  7. If People want Money, Pussy and papers i say let them!

We are all Slaves of the Dollar and we are all in need of

pressure release from our Makende´s , Men and Women!

MALAYA´S ARENT WE ALL IN SOME WAY, SHAPE OR FORM

    Assasin Say So!

  8. Why is sexuality seen as sin and something evil?If we were really that `clean“why are we having so many sexual-related problems.AIDS/HIV ,single mothers and street children is are very big issues in our society because people can not do without sex.Prostitutes are a good group that come forward and accept their own sexuality, our forefathers did acknowledge that it was very necessary because they allowed polygamy.Today we hold on to the religious beliefs which makes us hypocrites,“sinners“,murderers through abortion and bring hate towards each other.
We should look down deep inside ourselves ,our thoughts and mentality, where we will find out no matter what we do or say ,we are never going to have a mankind without sexuality.Let us change sexuality issue from negativity to positivity. What do I mean? Shame, evilness and sin is what we see in a person ,whereas we should see it normal, come up with safer methods and not to see a person as evil.

  9. “An alternate vision?,”

Thank you, Shiku, for sharing your thoughts on this issue. I can see how poverty and the lack of opportunity could easily make the pursuit of money and an easier existence one’s top priority in life. And when such is the case–when people old and young don’t work toward forming meaningful relationships based on feelings of love and compassion but rather on personal gain–the world becomes a sad place indeed.

Even in wealthy countries such as my own, love and money and the love of money are all confused together in ways similar to the way you’ve described here. I hope that, through our communicating together another vision of the future where money is not the meaning of life, love might be restored.

    Love,

    Emily

  10. Shiku, your article is quite interesting. It does seem strange that it took me awhile to figure out what ‘papers’ you were talking about, but I see what you mean. I think that it does happen a lot but hopefully some do find something real and lasting instead of the ‘do me, I do you” thing you described.

It is a sad indication of the times when our youths seem to want to turn to easy money instead of honest work. We need to somehow show that the feelings of working an honest day outweigh the fleeting feelings of being flush for the moment bring…

Are there many of these clubs in each city or is it limited to a major city/cities?

    Maria

  11. Dame,I disagree to agree on your post. You are very right, we can not live and live well without sex. Infact sex heals breaking relationship. And it is out of sex that you and I are communicating. Thus, sexuality aint negative nor is it evil. Its is the style and approach, mind and attitude that package it as negative and evil. Take for examples the pupils who get impregnanted but an innocent but ignorant classmate. Isnt this negative, especially on the lifes of the girls, who must drop out of school while the boy continue enjoying his education right?

Isnt it evil for men to lure slum children for sex? check out whats happening at mukuru wa Njenga slums. Its saddening.

Are you telling us that ,its indeed okey for students to practise prostitution in colleges to cater for lavish life styles just because they have accepted their sexuality?

While HIV is an outcome of `misused’ sex, single parent hood is not. Most children find themselves without fathers or mothers due to accidents or bitter marriage failures.Others- and a larger number back home-is out of choice.

  12. Sex for food in Nyeri slums:

Mothers with nothing to feed their children actually tell their daughters to make the best of it. “Some mothers encourage their daughters to go out and sell their bodies, so long as they bring back some food,” said Ms Janet Mueni, 26, who lives in Witemere.

During the day, young men are a rare sight in these slums. They are out in the town looking for casual jobs, we were told. The few left behind are mostly drunk on the cheap chang’aa. Most of the time, therefore, only mothers and children are left behind, to spend long hungry days inside the poverty-ravaged mud-and-wood hovels, easy prey for sex pests high on illicit brew.

“They openly stop the little girls and offer money to buy food in exchange for sex,” said Ms Janet Nyokabi, 45, another resident. As shocking as this phenomenon is, it is not new.

Five years ago, an elderly man in Witemere was convicted of sexually assaulting three girls aged 10, 8 and 7, and infecting them with a venereal disease. When he was caught, the culprit is said to have retorted: “I do not go for them; they come to my house on their own volition.”

  13. I fully agree with Macharia in contesting Dame’s approach to sexuality. Yesterday The Nation Newspaper revealed shocking sex habits among Kenyan teens which might make her think again. The story is here:

Girls as young as 12 are selling their bodies for petty things such as mobile phone airtime, chips and even sanitary pads.

And many are opting not to use protection, even though they are fully aware of the dangers of unsafe sex.

They are also sleeping with different partners: Some admitted having as many as six sexual partners in six months. What’s more, they’re spending almost as much energy keeping their actions secret from parents and guardians, a new survey revealed on Tuesday.

Instead, they prefer to get and share information about their increasingly risky sexual behaviour with friends, says the study by the Centre for the Study of Adolescence.
