Opposition party Forum for Democratic Change has called for the setting up of an East African Electoral Commission and East African Court of Appeal as some of the solutions to what it calls rampant election rigging in the region.
“We call upon all foreign interests in Kenya to be mindful of the interests of the Kenyan people and respect their inalienable right to choose their leaders,” a statement issued yesterday said.
“As Ugandans we note with much regret the ill-advised and unfortunate message of recognition and congratulation that was sent to Kibaki by President Yoweri Museveni shortly after his controversial swearing in.”
The statement further says that Kenyans have viewed Museveni’s congratulation message as an act of hostility to their efforts to achieve justice against Kibaki’s corrupt regime.
“In retaliation some of them (Kenyans) have responded by destroying life and property of some innocent Ugandans in that country. We call upon those Kenyans doing this to stop fighting would be allies and concentrate their efforts on the corrupt regime and their foreign backers,” the statement adds.
The FDC said PNU, like other African ruling parties have done, refused to accept defeat and hijacked the vote tallying process and carried out a national coup.
