Dr. Charles Njonjo, a Kenyan who has been resident in Sweden since 1959, is feared by friends to have gone missing. In the past one month, Dr. Njonjo has not been seen while friends who went to check him at his apartment were shocked to discover a pile-up of mails from inside the door, a development that suggested that he has been away from his apartment in Bortkyrkan Minicipality for a very long time.
Now, a close friend who knows Dr. Njonjo well has decided to raise the alarm so that other friends and relatives alike can investigate whether the continued pile-up of mails at Dr. Njonjo’s apartment may be due to a trip away from Stockholm or whether there is more than meets the eye.
Dr. Njonjo, who was the first African to open a pub in Stockholm’s Central Business District and who hosted luminaries like Dr. Martin Lurther King when the late Human Rights lawyer visited Stockholm in the 60s, is said by close friends to be a very reclusive person who only meets people by appointment.
Before his retirement, he is said to have been a very hard working person and concerned friends have told KSB that it is unlikely that he may have left his apartment for such a long period of time without informing any of his close acquaintances.
This appeal is directed to anybody (especially Dr. Njonjo’s close relatives resident in Sweden) to update Dr. Njonjo’s friends in case they know his whereabouts.
Friends have told KSB that after checking him at his apartment continuously for the last one month, and given the strange nature of the circumstances, they can no longer keep quiet thus this appeal. If there is no response, friends have told KSB that they will have to inform the Swedish authorities to open an investigation. Friends have been unable to reach Dr. Njonjo at his latest known cell phone at 07624951xx. When KSB punched the number, “the subscriber could not be reached”.
“We are not saying that something bad has happened. We are just being our friend’s keeper”, a close friend who seemed perplexed told KSB. “We appeal to relatives and friends not to misinterpret this message. Going public with our concerns has been the best we can do under the current circumstances”, the friend added. We at KSB can only hope that news about Dr. Njonjo will soon emerge while we also hope that he is safe and sound somewhere.
