Good police job drugs must end its one of the grave crimes in any society>I’m considered a subject matter expert on drone certification for the military – with over 35 years aircraft certification experience, and certificaiton of 3 major drone programs for the Air Force, Navy and Army. In my world, they are UAVs – Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. I also serve on advisory boards for the military, FAA and other civilian pilot groups for the integration of UAVs into our national airspace.
All credentials aside, I believe that with the current state of technology and with abuses known to exist with law enforcement, it is a VERY BAD idea to “deregulate” the use of drones in the United States national airspace.
Litte forethought was utilized when the Patriot Act gave almost unlimited ability to wire tap, intercept e-mails and text messages and cell phone calls; what makes anyone think that an over-zealous local law-enforcement agency will not over-congest the airspace every time they feel that they have “probable cause”? How long will it be before LAPD’s UAV collides with helicopter and kills a few people before we realize that giving this capability to local LEOs is like feeding a baby a handful of razor blades?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Let’s NOT turn over the skies to LEOs – for any reason. We’ve given up enough freedoms already.
