3 thoughts on “Ruto Made a Luo Elder in Kisumu: 29th/December

  1. Ruto thought that Kibaki was going to protect him and did everything and even dared Raila publicly to fire him. It is therefore silly to ask Raila to explain why he fired Ruto. He would never disrespect Moi or Kibaki the way he disrespected Raila and not expect to be fired.

  2. UDM leaders plot to end Ruto bid for State House

A SCHEME has been hatched to force Eldoret North MP out of the United Democratic Movement and derail his presidential ambition. Ruto has said he wants to vie for the presidency through UDM but the party is embroiled in leadership wrangles making it difficult for him to control its affairs.

Sources privy to the party’s affairs have revealed that some of the senior UDM officials have been meeting powerful politicians including those from the Rift Valley who are at loggerheads with Ruto over his style of politics.

Cheranganyi MP Joshua Kutuny said he is aware of powerful forces scheming to frustrate Ruto’s presidential ambitions by wrecking UDM. “What we can tell them is that they will not succeed because Ruto’s name will be on the ballot paper next year,” said Kutuny.

Two days ago, Ruto in an apparent reference to the wars in UDM said the party must go to polls so the public can decide how it will be managed. “The party does not belong to an individual and that is why we want elections so that the members can decide”, said Ruto who was with Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo at a function in Eldoret South.

Ruto is said to have differed with top party officials including secretary general Hassa ole Kamwaro and chairman Joseph Chirchir. Some of the officials accuse Ruto of dictatorship and planning to impose his cronies to run the party ahead of the 2012 polls. “There is nothing like that. We have agreed as MPs that the officials will run UDM affairs until we go to the grassroot elections early next year,” said Kutuny.

But some UDM officials are said to be opposed to the polls arguing that five years have not elapsed since the last party elections. A source close to a powerful politician in the rift said Sh10 million was given to two UDM officials to ensure they frustrate Ruto’s plans to take over the party.

  3. Ruto, what goes around, comes around. you will reap what you had sown. These two proverbs relate perfectly to your current predicament very much.

You left ODM (short of informing the speaker in writing you are resigning) for all practical purposes accusing Raila of being despotic and ODM maintaining a very narrow avenue for dissenting views. The rank and file of the party you grabbed from Koech (now subject of a court case) is now accusing you of the same. You have also lost almost the entire once fierce supporters from the Kipsigis land reacting to your attempt to install your lackeys in party hierarchy. You had sown the seeds of indiscipline, disrespect to the party leader and defying the very tenets of the political parties act. Now you are reaping the fruits of your labour!

Don’t be carried away by the peaceful and decent reception you received in Kisumu where a son of the soil, Tuju faced hostile crowds wherever he went. Did you notice for every rallying call “Harambee”, the crowd chanted “ODM Tosha” in return? Obviously words that matter to the people had done rounds before you reached Kisumu.

You really acted the script out well. You sent the apt reply message to Raila’s olive branch a few days ago that he had no problem if Ruto returned to ODM. You covertly revealed cooperation is possible while insisting you will be on the ballot. No problem because most of the notable leaders will be on ballot. It’s the second round that matters.

Now rein in the few MPs/leaders you have with you, especially the loose tongued Duale and the rabble-rouser Kutuny so that, they through their often irresponsible utterances do not put spanners in the works.

The general assumption you helped to create you are the sole custodian of all the Kalenjin votes has fallen flat on its face, especially in the light of recent developments. You are obviously a captain of a rudderless vessel with little fuel and few loyal men. Therefore, a reconciliation with ODM is best in your own interests. Even an electoral understanding or adjustment between what’s left of your UDM and ODM will do. No need of a merger, actually.

When you abandoned Raila and went to the bosom of Kibaki and by extension to Uhuru’s, you had forgotten one thing — Kibaki is the most ungrateful, opportunistic, insensible political creature now alive in Kenya.

To raise public sympathy, please don’t ask Raila why you were not reappointed to the cabinet, be cause you and we know why. One — the case was handled in a haphazard manner without even one credible prosecution witness; two — you were already full steam ahead in the process of building UDM with a view to blow ODM into smithereens in the RV. No family head will tolerate a violently rebellious son in the household.

Another argument you are proffering to the public is that Raila was instrumental in getting a date for you in the Hague which doesn’t have much currency.. And that he didn’t prohibit Nyong’o from writing to the ICC to detain you all there. This is best answered by Nyong’o himself as he is the author to give the reasons for it if he indeed wrote a letter.

    Be politically expedient, Samoei.
