Ndugu Osewe, thanks for not allocating yourself the role of a – know all answers – bothering the moralists or what you call here the opposition of Sonia. In fact no one has failed not the mother or Sonia has failed. Sonia’s mother cannot be blamed of her daughter’s choice to join the Big brother. Sonia is an adult capable of making independent choices and no one has any authority over her choices. That is fine with me too. She is a free soul.
Sonia does not have to live or act religiously to please anyone including me her father. I myself have no religious ties of any kind and am ok with that. Her mother’s religious profile speaks for her and she is ok with that. We never blame her mother if no one listens to her and she does not blame anyone when they fail to listen to her sermons. She is just doing her part as a pastor the work she likes doing. I think blame games among Kenyans abroad and back at home is sickening and heading the nation to nowhere. I wish it stops and Kenyans go about doing their work to earn a living the best way they know how to.
Kenyans living in Sweden opposing my daughter’s decision to participate in the Big Brother project are neither united nor acting in any way that can be called collective culture nor when it comes to moralizing or politicking. In Kenya itself culture is dead and buried. To me there is nothing practicable of the so-called Kenyan or African culture anymore. Different Kenyan tribes’ traditions are as good as dead. There is no redline to cross. No culture to mention and no morals to boast about. Sweden is a free country and life must be lived free of interference by people living there in a land of freedom and social rights. And if you think that Kenyans in Kenya still has any social or political morals left just pack and go back there and enjoy your morals and leave Kenyans in Sweden alone to enjoy their rights as free souls.
Dear Kenyans arrogating yourselves the role of moral police leave my daughter alone to do and act as she wishes so long as she is happy with it and it’s within her social rights that do not violate Swedish laws. In fact it was her opponent’s choice to watch minute details about her an indication they too wished their daughters were there in all that limelight. They could have chosen to watch religious channels. Sonia never forced anyone to watch Big Brother anyway.

I find KSB very interesting, ranging from kids who have ran away from home and now the Sonia debate. I also wish to enter into the discussion.
For Mueni, there is nothing wrong with an 18+ girl smoking especially in Sweden because at that age, the so called kid is allowed to smoke by law if that is what she wants. The discussion about culture is secondary because Sonia is more likely to behave like a Swede than some Kenyan down in the village. Parents ought not to take any responsibility for what the 18+ daughter is doing and those who are attacking the parents are missing the point. Baba Sonia has a right to air his views about his daughter, now that the matter is in the public domain. He has a right to take a stand over the issue and so those who are attacking him may be doing so out of ignorence.

As Sonia’s father, it was in order for Dick to speak on behalf of the family whether or not he defends Sonia. I think he took a very mature view in the matter and if I were him, I could have done the same. I can add that the issue at hand is complicated because everyone has a view which might not be correct. Whether participating in BB was good or bad is a matter of personal taste. When it comes to personal tastes, one man’s food may be another man’s poison so it depends on what makes you tickle. Makonde # 9: I can see that you are a voice of reason which has surfaced in this debate. Some lay commentators have been trying to muddy the debate, probably for selfish ends or to get at the personalities mentioned. In as much as contributors should side-line Sonia and her parents in the discussion, it has to be appreciated that they are the main protagonists in the situation and a serious discussion without referring to them directly or indirectly might be impossible.
In law, Sonia did nothing wrong by participating in BB because she is 18+ and the parents are not responsible either because in law, their responsibility ended when Sonia hit 18. However, the main issues are three-fold:
1. Whether Sonia’s participation in the program was anti-Kenyan/African culture on grounds of morality.
2. Whether her parents (as the up-bringing authority) should take part of the responsibility (in case Kenyan/African culture was violated).
3. Whether Kenyan/African culture was violated in the first place through her participation in BB.
All the above three issues are debatable separately and conclusions might be different depending on whom you talk to.
Sonia’s father has tried to dismiss the existence of culture in Kenya, a dismissal that he based on the assumption that on the basis of high levels of immorality in Kenya, there is no longer what is known as “culture” in that country. Is this true? It is important to isolate the issues in the situation because failure to do so will give way to emotional outbursts and expletives that will not advance the debate.
A major hindrance is that the intellectual level of commentators here is very low and this feature seems to be leading to oversimplification of a complex problematic that requires a degree of academic exposure especially in the intricate fields of: Migration, Culture, Traditions and Modernism. In fact, the case of Sonia should be a subject of academic study and informed debate, not a carcass for semi-illiterates to feed on, in the process, vomiting on the debating table without even knowing it.

Osewe, it was quite mature of you to have kept off KSB comments on Sonia Kamau’s participation in BB until she was voted out. On the other hand, many people questioned why you did not give her fulltime coverage during her stay in BB because she is Kenyan too and the news was big so it deserved full coverage. That aside, I found your story on her quite interesting because you threw broad questions on morals and ethics within Kenya-Stockholm and Sweden. Whether Sonia’s participation in BB was good or bad, KSB commentators have the right to react negatively or positively, because that is the good thing with free media. Nobody has insulted Sonia, but some think it was wrong or right for her to participate. I don’t agree with people who might abuse her but people should be free to express themselves. Those claiming that people are attacking Sonia are mistaking negative reactions for attacks. I am very surprised at some complaints here because what Swedes were writing about Sonia in real time in chat lines was far much nauseating than anything I have read at KSB. Why didn’t anybody complain and assert that these Swedes should leave Sonia alone? Because they could have met with a barrage of resistance.
Issues concerning morals and ethics are both individual and collective when it comes to public participation. Whether morals allowed Sonia to have sex with Rodney on TV before an audience of 4 million viewers and many other millions of viewers on the Internet, is neither here nor there. Nobody at KSB has blamed her parents for her actions but rather questioned her participation in BB especially engaging in sex in public view. This is the crux of the matter especially when the so called morals are mentioned. If I were Dick Kamau, I would not even waste a word defending her, because all he confirmed was that she is free to do what she wants, including having sex in real-time with Rodney the Cassanova, whose manhood dips into any available opening; he sleeps with anything in a skirt and is a well known criminal (he has just been arrested with drugs in town) – says a lot about Sonia’s choice of bed-mate. It is justified for KSB to allow readers to comment as long as they don’t insult her or her family. Sonia Kamau was recently kicked out of Berns, an exclusive nightclub in Stockholm. I guess she got big-headed from being in BB and assumed a “celeb mode” – a role the father Dick Kamau says she now belongs to now. “Big Brother” – Sonia in nightclub fight
Big Brother participant Sonia Kamau partied on Friday night at hotspot Berns, Stockholm. But the evening ended in a brawl with the guards, and Sonia was forced yesterday to go to the hospital.
– I’m going to file a police report against them. I will not be able to move this arm for several weeks, says Sonia Kamau.
Last week Sonia Kamau left the “Big Brother” house. On Friday, she partied with several friends and former participant Rodney da Silva on the inside floor of Berns, Stockholm. But after being told she was too drunk to stay, Sonia Kamau thrown was thrown out.
This was after having thrown a glass of ice on the floor. Outside, she appealed to the security guards to get back in to retrieve her jacket and other belongings which a male friend had. According to Sonia, they refused and instead shouted to her in a language she did not understand.
– Then I became angry. If you have something to say, say it to my face instead of going away, I told them, says Sonia Kamau.
– Then a guard took a grip and threw me on the ground. It was totally sick. He pulled everything he could, she continues.
Sonia was then taken to a room with four guards while waiting for police. After the police arrived she was released.
– They said the guards would not report me to the police. I wanted to notify the police but said I would call in the next morning (read: yesterday). I took a taxi home completely devastated and just cried. “I could not get out of bed in the morning”, says Sonia.
She went to the hospital yesterday, but after an X-ray she found nothing was broken. She however bled in the shoulder after muscle tearing.
– I will not be able to move the arm normally for several weeks. I’ll make a police report tonight, said Sonia on Saturday night.
Per Sandberg, head of security at Berns, has a different view of the event. According to him, a police report for vandalism has been filed against Sonia as she had torn the clothes of several guards.
– It is not true, or quite far from it, she said. The guards said she had made both verbal and physical resistance. She was taken care of after she had thrown herself into the ropes barring entry and attacked one of the guards.
– The reason why she was taken to this room as she calls it, is because there is a camera there, said Per Sandberg.
City police would not comment on the matter since there is an ongoing investigation.

Sonia Kamau doesn’t know that her black skin is a curse to the Swedes, thus her voting out of BB.Also, the Swedish press loves drama; alcohol and fights in public are what they thrive upon especially involving blacks.
this is the beginning of Sonia’s downfall and if she doesn’t seek serious prayers and guidance, she will soon begin taking drugs, act paranoid, stop legal work (now that she hangs around Rodney), and eventually end up in the social drains like many other immigrants who think that negative fame will help them in Sweden.
You hardly win against the security guards because they work as a team and cannot betray each other. Once they have a joint story, it is watertight to the end.
Sonia should have taken a low profile because she is still a struggling immigrant not from Östermalmstorg. She is alone in her actions of smoking and drinking, and can only redeem herself, and not her KSB protectors who don’t want to accept the facts behind her hectic lifestyle which is detrimental to a young person.

Nobody but Sonia chose to participate in BB and most of us only learnt about it when the show began. In any case, Kenyans have the right to discuss your daughter who chose to be seen partly naked on Swedish TV and to other millions of viewers worldwide on the Internet, as noted above by Triza.
There was a lot of boozing and smoking that she indulged in, shaving her private parts, etc. Nobody is policing your daughter or pretending to hold the high moral card. Why don’t you go and read comments in Swedish that kept rolling while your daughter was in the BB house, and see how KSB readers are polite in their thoughts about your daughter.
Sonia is free to drink as much as she wants, but when caught in a fight at the Berns nightclub, it is an indication of losing control of her faculties, making her misjudge the basics of social behavior. The court verdict will determine whether she was right or wrong. However, such a trait is unbecoming even in a free society like Sweden.
In the name of freedom, you as the father can help her enlist in future Swedish reality TV shows and other semi-nude programs that require more booze and fornication. This is the best way of helping her to make a career in TV becuase she doesn’t seem capable of participating in programs that require soberiety.
As a father, in fact you could be Sonia’s manager and begin getting commissions from such a show. Lucky you BB has made her famous and now a celebrity getting in fights at clubs. She is now a tagged trouble maker, and the more she boozes stupidly, the more she will be barred from nightclubs. Good luck as you support her freedom of choice and participation in reality TV.

He is a marked man, probably now regarded as anti-Semitic, which is a negative tag.
Of course, Dick Kamau can protect his daughter as much as he can at KSB, but the reality out there is she has to live within the accepted Swedish social norms. Part of it is to behave with decorum and to avoid misbehaving in public, especially after consuming huge volumes of alcohol.

The case is so clear that when other commentators go local with emotional, rather than logical input, I find them immature and not having understood Osewe’s initial article about Sonia’s role in BB. Anyway, keep such mature commentary coming because it gives a broader analysis than a narrow aspect of not understanding that there is nothing to protect about Sonia, because she is now a public figure, subject to debate.
Dick, now that your daughter has participated in BB, which is seen to bear immorality, commentators who were against it had to state their thoughts. Do not come to KSB trying to muzzle readers’ freedom of expression in a society that you laud its freedom.

Sara, a female Swedish participant who sleeps in the same bed with Martin, swore never to “unlock her panties” for him, as long as she is in BB. In my opinion, the biggest catalyst in the Sonia saga is her father, Dick Kamau. She is 18+ so there was no need for him to defend her at KSB. Her Youtube clip explaining why she had participated in BB was clear, and there were no extreme reactions from KSB readers.
Osewe’s article raised and provoked bits and pieces of morality, ethics, immigration, basics rights to freedom of choice, etc. which rightfully allowed people to comment.
Dick Kamau might have been stung by Osewe’s article that was very loose-ended in order to raise comments. Many felt it was Sonia’s choice to be on BB, while quite a few felt it wasn’t the best program. This is how a debate should be conducted and it was going to end very soon. However, Dick joined the fray and triggered uncessesary fodder by injecting words such as her daughter being a “celebrity” and would support her to be more “famous”. This is a typical Kenyan male approach, in my opinion, to give readers the mid finger by asking, “Mta Do?”. She is making it, what about your kids?
Some of us chose “slow lanes” that we nurtured our kids through, and they have progressed “normally” to reach their goals in this country. That path has been so consistent to the extent that these grown-ups, now 18+, have no desire to use a “seedy” program like BB to get 500,000kr. Dick has already written, so it is just right to ask whether this was the best way for his daughter to attempt to make it big financially.
Amazingly, my kids who are 18+ said to me there was no way as Africans, they would even think for a moment that BB is their place. Never! This opinion was shared by many of their Swedish friends too, in this free country.
In terms of team work, Sonia showed no such spirit other than picking Vanessa, the trans-gender participant, as a friend and gossiped the whole day. Voters didn’t give him a moment and was soon voted out. Sonia followed the week after because she had nothing to offer, having lacked a team spirit. She was first described as polite, but that changed later when she displayed stubbornness and lazed around, smoked and consumed huge volumes of alcohol.
Anyway, Dick Kamau, you should have been silent and let the readers give their thoughts because Sonia can defend herself. She will be doing so soon in the ongoing investigation about her fight with security guards at the Berns nightclub. She is beyond your care now, because she is legally 18+. Keep off her debate if you want to save your dignity.
Stella Mwangi’s parents in Norway didn’t go public to protect her when racial comments were posted online after she won the Norwegian representation to the recent Eurovision Song Contest. Last year, a book published about the King’s reluctance to be the king of Sweden, also generated a lot of discussion that was quite damaging morally, because his daughter had just been married. Now the same will happen; collateral damage to his children, especially Princess Victoria, who should be the next Queen of Sweden.
The example of the Swedish royal family is for Dick Kamau not to assume that there is no accepted level of morality in Sweden. Swedes believe in certain moral standards not generally associated with religion. How you behave publicly or socially can at a certain stage in life dictate your career or public office placement. The King is a ‘pure’ Swede and will be protected to an acceptable level because he is still highly regarded. However, there will definitely be serious reactions from Swedes and many questions will be posed on whether it’s worth maintaining the royal house.
Sweden will handle Sonia the way she approaches her daily activities. The mainstream tabloids will soon bundle her among the former BB participants who have been involved in socially untoward behavior.
