  1. And we thought that the ‘Witch burning’ video was the worst we have seen. No more Chinese restaurants for me. I can’t escape other products they produce because they are all over.

  2. This too brutal and I think even those involved are heartless and something is really wrong with them.I join the call for china to protect animals.
Jared has said it all and I join him for no more chinese restaurant and if possible their product to send the massage home.

KSB: Well said. But the question is whether the Chinese restaurants in Stockholm serve dog meat from China or whether those Chinese businessmen trying to make it in Stockholm have anything to do with the dog brutality. May be, a protest letter to the Chinese Embassy would be of better help.

  3. Mine is a personal protest, just like I don’t buy anything labelled “Made in or produced in Israel” since I abhor the unfair treatment of the Palestinians by the Jews.

Below is a response from a Chinese colleague whom I asked whether it was normal to treat dogs like this in China:

“It is absolutely not normal! It only exists in very special parts of China, e.g. where many Koreans live.
I can bet in such a big China, there will be totally no more than 100 dog-eating restaurants. And it will become fewer and fewer in numbers.

I am going to have a nightmare after your video tonight.”

KSB: I see your point and the intervention by your Chinese friend. It is like the case of Western media using wars in three African countries to posit that the whole content is at war.

  4. Although eating dog meat is popular in some parts of the world, the example of brutality used in China to slughter dogs is totally sickening. If the process was humane, it would probably not be eye-catching, since other animals are also slaughtered for food.

A man caught skinning a dog recently in Naivasha was not using the same brutality shown in the Chinese video, yet deep inside one feels disgusted watching the process. In this case, it’s about poverty driving the man to slaughter and sell the meat, while in China, it is a normal dish for some.

KSB: The method of slaughter is not shocking but the understanding that the guy has been selling dog meet to people who have been eating nyake unawares is chilling.

  5. Dogs are edible. Its just same as eating pork or beef. Islams don’t eat pork, (some)Hindus don’t eat beef, and most of so called vegetarian don’t eat any meats at all (but again (some) do eat chicken and fish). And some extreme people even think killing and eating vegetable are cruel too.

KSB: So what’s your point in connection with the brutality of how the dogs are being handled in the video?

  6. Simon1999: It is the inhumane manner of slaughtering the dogs that is repugnant. Comments indicate that some Chinese are equally disgusted with this form of brutality in the name of enjoying a delicacy.

Many Norwegians and Japanese are also against the brutal methods of killing whales (whaling) and sharks for fins(shark finning) in their seas for the sake of food. One person’s food is the other one’s poison.
