The Swedish Development Forum (FUF) in co-operation with the Nordic African Institute (NAI) have invited Mr. Maina Kiai, the Chairman of the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KNCHR) for a discussion on “Kenya: The ongoing political crisis”. The meeting will take place of Friday March 7th at Klara Conference Center (Vattugatan 6 located at the corner of Drottninggatan). The meeting will take place between 9.00-10.00 while breakfast will be served from 8.45.
The invitation letter circulated by the hosts says in part: “FUF and NAI take pleasure in inviting you to a seminar with Maina Kiai, Chairman of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). The KNCHR is an independent national human rights institution established by the government. Its core mandate is to further the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya. Mr Kiai will talk about the political conflict and human rights violations which followed upon the controversial December 2007 presidential elections”.
It will be a great opportunity for Kenyans in Sweden and those interested in Kenyan affairs to meet Mr. Kiai who has been at the center for campaigns against rigging of elections on December 27th last year. Mr. Kiai has been very vocal in underlining the fact that PNU stole the vote and that any solution reached to resolve the crisis should be acceptable to the Kenyan people. As the crisis deepened, Mr. Kiai received death threats because of his position on the rigged elections. Those wishing to attend the meeting are requested to notify the organizers at: Tel: 08-643 42 75.
