Plans for “The 10th Grand Kenya Nyama Choma Festival” scheduled for Saturday July 28th are complete. According to a Report obtained from the organizers, a package of activities are planned to keep Wakenya and friends busy the whole day. The event starts at 12 noon before a dispersal to Norsborg later in the evening where an all night disco engineered by the “Sound of Blackness” will be awaiting fun lovers. From details obtained by KSB, the day is expected to be packed with action.
For parents with little children, the major attraction will be children’s activities led by Mr. Albert Taabu, a Kenyan music artist who has been engaging the kids in past Nyama Chomas. The kids will be taken through various Kenyan-oriented children’s games at the field with typical songs that, in the past, have reminded adult Wakenya of their childhood days. Songs like “Napeleka barua kwa mama ikanipotelea nyumbani”, Kalongolongo games and other attractions are expected to be on the line up.
Albert will himself play drums together with other traditional dancers from Kenya with lots of Kenyan talent expected to be on display. Playing drums is Albert’s main artistic arena and his beats are expected to spice up the occasion as people take a bite of the famed Nyama choma.
Apart from entertainment by the Albert crew, there will also be music blaring from speakers, just like in the past days. Weather permitting, volley ball and other outdoor games (kid’s football) are also on the Program and Wakenya (especially the youth) are expected to fight it out with competitors from other countries.
There will be maximum security both at the Beach and at Norsborg. Nyake will cost 100 kr per head and this will give fun lovers an opportunity to fill up their tummies endlessly with Nyama choma until the whole crew begins to move to Norsborg where the Choma will continue (depending on the meat balance) in preparation for the all night disco.
Tickets will be issued for the Nyake consumption so everybody is expected to keep the ticket throughout the swallowing process. As an extra precaution, those who have paid up will have some kinda stamp at some strategic location on their arms but it will still be good idea to keep the ticket. The point is that the ticket will still be valid once activities move to Norsborg and, if you lose your stamp, it will be the only evidence that you’ve paid up your trip to the day’s Entertainment.
Tusker will be available to bring down the real Kenyan mood although other vinywanji will also be served. Children will be treated to free food (sausages + drinks at the minimum). Adults are not expected to take advantage to fill up on behalf of the kids. Some Wakenya can be really crazy. They don’t pay for Nyake, they send the kids for sausages then they swallow. Don’t even think about it!
At 22hrs, children will be evacuated from the disco hall so that they can return home and relax after a long day. Nobody without an ID will be allowed in the hall after 22hrs. Parents who want to remain behind will first have to take care of their kids because there will be no child minders.
There will be transport from the field to Norsborg (with donations for Ngata of cause) while at Norsborg, the transport situation will be the same.
In case the weather becomes rude and the ground becomes wet, there will be tents to take care of any drizzles. There is a “Plan B” in case the weather turns ugly, making it impossible for an out door thing to take place.
The whole event will be moved to Norsborg where Nyama will be chomad in tents and consumed indoors or under available sheds at Norsborg. This is the worst case scenario. If this is to happen, an SMS will be sent while info will also be posted at KSB to that effect so keep KSB as your homepage and your mobile fully charged. In case you are not in the SMS Network, get hooked so that you don’t miss anything. Call the Makozewe Network.
The Grand Nyama Choma was started in 1998 by the Kenya United Welfare Association (KUWA) which organized the event up to the year 2003. Since 1998, not a single year has passed without the event being organized. It is the peak-point when Wakenya and friends meet in Stockholm during Summer.
This year round, the Festival is being organized by a Network of Wakenya with Sound of Blackness playing a key role. The group will be the main DJ Crew at the hall in Norsborg. Albert Taabu and Crew are taking up Entertainment especially in the field at Fittja beach while Steve Khadir is helping with logistics especially on the question of Transport. KSB is in charge of Publicity & Propaganda. Hot Lines available for information are: 0704193053 and 0732167090. Info can also be found at: soundofblackness.com and at KSB. Check for latest updates.
