Ailing Kenyan Woman Appeals For Financial Help
Naomi Wambui, a Kenyan woman resident in Stockholm, has appealed to Kenyans, friends and well-wishers to assist her raise 20.000 Swedish crowns towards an impending eye operation at St Erik Eye Hospital in Stockholm.
Speaking to KSB, Naomi said that she had just left hospital after being admitted for one week, time when Doctors discovered that she had an acute complication with her ailment. She was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Now, Naomi needs to undergo two eye operations as part of her on-going treatment of a series of deadly diseases she suffers from. According to Sven Sahlin, the Managing Director of the Eye Hospital at St Erik, Naomi is suffering from Thyeoide eye disease with proptosis and optic nerve compression, a condition that needs surgery which, Sahlin says, will cost 11.000 kr.
Last year, Naomi underwent an eye surgery for “Orbital decompression” but unfortunately, some fat prolaps remained in the upper eye lids which now needs to be removed. She also needs an “upper eye lid retraction” which also requires surgery.
Sven Sahlin says that both operations combined will cost 20.000 kr. To address the problem, Naomi has called a fund raising at her sister Janet’s residence on Saturday October 27th 2007 from 14.00 hrs.
Naomi is seeking assistance because her Permanent Residence Permit (PUT) has not yet been processed by the Swedish Immigration authorities and under the circumstances, she has to foot the bill of her treatment. She has, in the past, held fund raisings at her sister’s residence to sort out her hospital bills, the last one having been weeks before she underwent her first eye operation. She has also been operated on in the heart.
“My PUT is still pending at the immigration Office and I am therefore appealing to all my Kenyan brothers and sisters together with people of good will to help me undergo this urgent operation”, she said in a Statement to KSB.
“I am on medication day and night and would like to take this opportunity to thank you Kenyans for the support, kind assistance, your understanding, your consideration, words of encouragement and above all, your prayers. May God bless you and keep you”, she said.
The fund raising will be held at Spannarpsgränd 9 NB at Åstebergjorden. From Liljeholmen take Bus number 134 and take off at Terassen Bust stop. Further info: 08-7228201; 0704016395 (Janet); 0737891515 (Naomi).
