“KCU is a Sectarian Group” – Pastor Beatrice Kamau

Pastor Beatrice: Warned against sectarianism in Church

Pastor Beatrice Kamau, a Committee member of the Skarpnäck Church and founder of Anna Lindh Nursery School in Kenya, has said that the current crisis facing the newly formed Kenya Christian Union (KCU) is the product of sectarianism practiced by members of the Union.

Speaking to KSB, Pastor Beatrice warned Kenyans in Stockholm against associating themselves with sects posing as Churches and Unions. Without naming names, she said that a key personality associated with KCU is, historically, a known trouble maker.

“A Church is not a political party and you cannot move from church to church like a politician changing political parties in Kenya at every election”, she told KSB. She said that two years ago, she warned about the development of sectarianism among Kenyans calling themselves Christians and that now, real sects have surfaced to try and destroy real churches.

The Pastor clarified that KCU is not part of the New Life Church but part of a sect formed by a group of people from Zaire whose agenda with religion is business. She said that the sect simply prays in the premises of the New Life Church but that it has nothing to do with the Church. Going further in detail, the Pastor told KSB that KCU is built within the “Zairean sect community” and that many Kenyans who have joined the sect do not understand its main agenda.

“One Kenyan involved in the sect has been moving from Church to church causing havoc and it is this member who collaborates with Apostle Karanja to do business in Church”, she told KSB. She said that although the formation of KCU is a good idea, the organization will not succeed because it is trying to push a non religious agenda through the Church.

As responsible Christians, it is important that we stand up and give direction in matters of religion especially when it is clear that confusion has entered the Church of God”, she said.

According to the Pastor, the public displays which Kenyans have been exposed to since the formation of KCU is uncalled for. “Such displays give genuine Kenyan Churches a bad name in the eyes of the public”, she said.

The Pastor said that the crisis in KCU especially on the Apostle Karanja trip was predictable because personalities who are in KCU are known antagonists who have never succeeded in organizing society in any way.

“They are trying to find a foot-hold in the Church but because they do not understand matters of religion, they are using political tactics which do not work in the Church”, she said.

The Pastor’s comments will, most likely, raffle the feathers of KCU’s top apparatchiks at a time when reports say that the new Union has been hit with a series of resignations following fall-outs from the Karanja affair.

Mr. Samuel Muirani, a member of KCU, is known to be at loggerheads with KCU’s Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Wamburi Munge who circulated a joint statement with Committee member Sofia Njoroge to the effect that Apostle’s Karanja’s trip had been cancelled.

This prompted Mr. Muirani to circulate a flyer saying that Karanja’s trip was on schedule. Although Muirani’s rebuttal was the first clue that KCU was in problems, the crisis within the organization appears to have escalated after Madam Sofia told Church leaders at New Life that she was not part of the KCU statement and that her name was simply “dragged into the matter”.

Since problems began at KCU, the vocal Mr. Wamburi has been very quiet, choosing not to respond to Sofia’s position about the controversial KCU’s statement that cancelled Karanja’s trip. Pasture Beatrice’s assertion that KCU is a sect will simply add flavor to a story that was least expected from a new religious organization. For now, observers will have to wait and see.

Update: Rapper Billy Boy Released From Police Custody

Latest reports reaching KSB say that Rapper Billy Boy has been released from police custody. According to a police Officer who communicated with KSB, the Rapper was released on Sunday evening although it was still not clear whether any charges had been preferred against him.

The Rapper was released after the Kenya Red Alliance intervened and demanded that the Rapper be provided with a lawyer after he was held for more than 6 hours without charge. Consequently, KRA recommended a lawyer who will take up the case if it comes up in court. According to Swedish law, a person cannot be held for more than six hours without charge unless the suspect faces a very serious offence which may require lengthy investigations.

Billy was arrested as a result of an alleged fracas whose details remain unclear. Holding him in custody for more than six hours without charge was legally untenable because the case is not complicated and may not require any “further investigations”.

If police needed any further investigation, what is required, according to the Swedish law, is that Billy engage a lawyer to hold brief for him during investigation, a process that could be done when Billy had regained his freedom.

Once a lawyer was recommended for Billy, police had no more reason to hold the Rapper in custody and he was released. Billy had insisted that police alert a leading KRA official that he had been taken into custody, a plea that was granted after he gave contacts of the official. KSB is following the case.

Sofia Njoroge Backs Away From KCU’s Karanja Statement

Sofia Njoroge, an official of the Kenya Christian Union (KCU), has reportedly distanced herself from a recent KCU Statement sent to KSB by Mr. Kenneth Wamburi Munge, KCU Secretary, saying that she was not part of the Statement that was recently published at the blog.

According to Mr. Isaack, a Congolese national who is also in the leadership of the New Life Church that was associated with the return of Apostle Karanja to Stockholm, Sofia told him that she was not part of the Statement which suggested that Apostle Karanja was not coming to Sweden. Mr. Isaack called KSB to establish where the blog site obtained information saying that Sofia was also part of the “Karanja is not coming” Statement.

The statement, which bore the names of both Mr. Kenneth Wamburi and Sofia Njoroge, said that due to lack of logistics, Apostle Karanja’s visit to Sweden had been cancelled. The Statement also requested everybody who contributed funds towards Apostle Karanja’s trip to get in touch with KCU for a refund. KSB has learnt that since the release of the Statement, some Kenyans who contributed money had demanded refunds.

The distancing of Sofia Njoroge from the Statement comes in the wake of a poster advert at KSB by Mr. Samuel Muirani, a member of the New Life Church, saying that Karanja’s trip was on schedule.

According to Isaack, Sofia has told the Church leadership that her name was simply “dragged into the matter” and that she was not part of it. Sofia is also a member of the leadership of the New Life Church and it is reported that she was facing a comprehensive grilling by the Church leadership over her alleged involvement in the KCU Karanja statement.

The position of Mr. Isaack was that Karanja was coming and that the trip is part of the New Life Church Project. The question the Church leadership is trying to resolve is how Sofia Njoroge, a member of the Leadership, could have been part of a public Statement cancelling Karanja’s trip.

Sofia’s step back will further widen the rift within KCU and raise new questions in the eyes of observers because if her position is correct – that her name was dragged into the atter – then the implication is that Mr. Wamburi may have included her name in the statement without her knowledge, a serious act likely to put Wamburi into more problems and expand the scope of circumstances that may have led to the release of the Statement by KCU. One person who will be tossing champaign over the crisis is brother Samuel Muirani.
