Almost 1 Million Shillings Raised for Sumba Funeral
Almost one million Kenya Shillings was raised for the late Mr. Onyango Sumba’s funeral. The function, which was held at the Nairobi Railway Club on 27th October 2009, attracted a huge crowd comprising friends, relatives, politicians, prominent people and well-wishers. Cabinet Ministers, Anyang’ Nyong’o and James Orengo, were the chief guests.
Previously, mourners had met daily at the Professional Centre, but a bigger venue was arranged for this main fundraising. A lot of love and brotherhood was shown by all the speakers who praised the late Sumba for his patriotism and great contribution towards Kenya’s quest for democracy.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was Mr. Sumba’s confidant and comrade in struggle, donated 50 thousand shillings. This writer, who is representing Kenya-Stockholm at the funeral, gave a personal contribution of 10 thousand shillings.
A mass for the deceased will be held on October 29th 2009, at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi and the burial will take place at his home in Alego on Saturday, October 31st. A Daily Nation death announcement can be found HERE.

Its rather sad to note that people both in kenya and in stockholm contributed so generously for Mr Sumbas funeral. If this kind of generousity was extended when he was ill in Kenyatta, his life could have possibly be saved. This ammount of money could have possibly catered for better treatment in a better hospital.Thats the time he may have needed the money most.
Juma,it’s unfortunate as yoor say,but many in Stockholm were not aware of his situation until we were told recently.May he rest in peace.
Osewe thanks for the continued apdate on the late Sumba. We in Germany are still in shock at his passing and thanks all in Stockholm and Kenya for raising the money. His death was quite untimly and as we werwe told, there was progress in his health after the koma. Thanks too for giving us the link to his deatha anouncment. He looks as handsome as always in the foto.I wish him a peaceful rest in heven.
I hope to be at the burial since am travelling home this Friday.
