Update: Awuonda’s Body To be Cremated In Stockholm

The body of the late Moussa Awuonda will be cremated in Stockholm, ashes buried in Stockholm while a potion of ashes will be sprinkled in Lake Victoria in Kisumu, Kenya. According to information obtained by KSB, the late Awuonda had left a Will to the effect that his land in Kenya (Estate) will be managed by his eldest son while he is also reported to have informed a Kenyan lady that he did not want “The Maggero drama” when time to cremate his body arrived.

According to Dr. Otieno Wariaro, a respected elder who knew Awuonda and who visited him several times when he was hospitalized, Mr. Awuonda told him that he wanted his body cremated. “I can testify that I am a witness that Mr. Awuonda wanted his body to be cremated”, Dr. Wariaro said at a meeting at Continental Hotel on Tuesday.

According to further details, Awuonda’s Will is currently in the custody of his Swedish girlfriend. Sources who have had contact with the woman and whom KSB has managed to talk to say that part of the will has it that it was Awuonda’s wish that his books be distributed among family members, Kenyans and friends.

What is not clear at the moment is the role Awuonda’s family in Kenya is playing in the situation. At the meeting called on Tuesday this week at Continental Hotel, it emerged that the conveners had no contact with members of Awuonda’s family in Kenya. The position of the family in relation to the cremation could also not be addressed by members at the meeting because no one had contacts.

When Dr. Otieno Wariaro asked the meeting whether Awuonda’s family in Kenya knew that he had died, nobody appeared to have had a clear answer. Awuonda’s Swedish girlfriend, who is in procession of his Will, was reported at the meeting to have obtained “Power of Attorney” from Awuonda’s two sons abroad to enable her execute Awuonda’s Will. She was not at the meeting.

It also emerged at the Tuesday meeting that the two sons will not be coming to Sweden to attend the funeral “because they are still traumatized” following the death of their mother in 2001 after a long battle with cancer, the same disease that is reported to have struck Awuonda. KSB has gathered that a Memorial service for the late Awuonda will be held on February 20th 2009 at Stockholm Chapel from 14.00 hrs.

Awuonda Funeral Committee Fails To Meet

A Committee that was formed to facilitate the funeral arrangement of the late Mr. Moussa Awuonda failed to meet yesterday evening at Continental Hotel because Committee members did not turn up due to various reasons.

The Committee is headed by Mr. Joshua Oyugi as Chairman, Mr. Ken Aroka, Secretary while Mr. Joseph Goga is the Treasurer. Yesterday, both the Chairman and the Treasurer were not available while the Secretary entered into mourning following the demise of his uncle in Kenya. Other Committee members are Mrs Hellen Opwapo, Mrs Prisca Forsman and Mrs Jane Owili. I was informed that I was the Information Secretary.

A key task of the Committee is to oversee the Awuonda Funeral Service in Stockholm and to address other issues following the demise of Mr. Awuonda. KSB will keep readers updated about any new developments.

Trepidation At KSB As Comments Degenerate

This piece appeared here on 26th January 2009 and has just been recycled because of its relevance:

There is a general sense of disappointment at KSB because after opening the comment section for KSB readers to air their views on various topics, our worst fears have been confirmed – that the move could lead to a gradual degeneration of comments to an extent that readers will be treated to degrading and below the belt presentations that will serve more to wreck other than build unity between the Kenyan community in Stockholm.

Since the comment section was opened, very respected members of Kenya-Stockholm who have been unlucky to fall on the negative end of the news have had their characters assassinated with some of the most powerful vitriol while others have had their reputations destroyed, probably beyond repair.

We at KSB had to stand by helplessly as Kenyans took one another by the horns, digging the filthiest of dirt linked to opponents and casting them here in the name of comments.

During the opening stages of the comments, some individuals like Hellen Awuor (mother Chentelle), Bryan Arua, Clay Onyango, Antony Adiwa and Antony Odera became major casualties of heavy bombardment from opponents who took advantage of negative aspects of the news that covered them to show them dust.

There are others who were not named but who could easily be identified following the explosion of certain scandals at KSB. These Kenyans suffered the wrath of commentators with the same, if not worse effect than that of their colleagues who were named.

We have in mind both the blogger who had an altercation with his ex and the “Chairman” who had a similar encounter with his wife. In both cases, police were called in to intervene and the suspects were taken into custody before being released.

While we don’t support the actions of the above Kenyans that may have exposed them to attacks, and while we appreciate the fact that there were very constructive comments that were rendered by mature contributors, any rational person who has been following events at KSB in the recent past will agree that in certain instances, the comments simply went overboard as open matusi was dragged into commentary and names dropped as participants tried to outplay one another, forcing KSB to begin editing comments to protect people’s reputations and to send signals that there is what is acceptable and what is not.

Mud-slinging, intrigue, hatred and calumny
In another twist of events which also caught our attention, some commentators simply veered from both the subject matter and line of commentary to expand the parameters of debate with devastating consequences. They cleverly utilized the ingredients of current discussion topics to seek out their enemies as they threw provocative pointers targeted at specific individuals or groups of individuals.

Once these enemies detected that they were being sought or targeted indirectly, they in turn came out armed with new and lethal missiles which had nothing to do with the original debate but which tended to expand the war to new and fresh territories.

The end results was that a commentary which started as a result of the Chairman’s story ended up with someone being told that his mouth “was drooling with pus because of his injured tongue”. The guy had proudly announced that he had just been blessed with a baby girl but unfortunately, the baby ended up being referred to as a “chicken” in a moment of rage. Another example will suffice.

Using the inclination that the crisis that was facing the “Sheamani” may have been linked to promiscuity, some enemies went ahead to name certain women in Kenya-Stockholm whom they accused of perpetually practicing prostitution and KSB had to delete the names in a moment of censorship.

We carried the story that detailed events that led to the Chairman landing in custody. But when commentators took over, KSB staffers had to retreat into the banker to watch the missiles on radar screens as they were unleashed through a battalion of the Chairman’s enemies who appeared to have been coordinating attacks with terrific power.

After the comment’s section was opened, some Kenyans thought that it was a historic moment because “democracy had come to KSB”. A blogger who attacked KSB for having closed the comments section was among the first casualties and the firepower was so intense that after a few bombings “Gaza style”, he closed down his blog and went into retirement. The democracy he was calling for put him out of business and at a terrific speed which stunned observers.

Is what we are witnessing today the kind of “democracy” that pro-comments readers had envisioned? Because of my understanding of Media politics, I knew this was coming and I took a lot of time to warn that opening comments had its own consequences. The sensation that was at KSB before the emergence of comments has now proved to have been a “Tea Party” because the main boogie appear to have taken over.

Under the Freedom of expression Act, some comments could not be approved while others dumped as long as names were not being named. Even under this arrangement, there are individuals whose characters are currently in tatters because of anonymous commentators who took advantage of the new developments at KSB to get even.

As we continue to follow events, we appeal to contributors to put themselves in the shoes of those under attack because anybody could slip and your story could land at KSB. Obviously, readers need to express themselves as much as possible. However, personal abuses, naming names, using offensive language and engaging in character assassination is what we believe should be avoided.

We encourage readers to use the opportunity to comment responsibly because if focus is concentrated on personal attacks, it is inter-personal relationships that will end up being destroyed probably for ever.

There is a point when “a comment ceases to be a comment” and becomes a pure abuse. We encourage readers to use the new facility with dignity and to take advantage of the possibility of sending comments anonymously to try and build, reconstruct and encourage positivity as opposed to the current situation where what is being promoted is intrigue, hatred, calumny, mud-slinging and sheer malice.

Malkia Is A Cheap Copy Of Something Else

This Malikia is telling us Kenyans to become 2% of other people?! Who the hell does she think she is?  We are 100% KENYANS and are VERY PROUD AND HAPPY of being just that and nothing else! Honestly,- what is it she sounds so very proud about and feels we Kenyans need to learn from wherever she is talking about?

Our Malikia is just another cheap copy of something else, running away from herself and her own people in search of something else that she even herself does not understand or know. The unfortunate fact is that we have so many of these cheap copies among us Kenyans in this country.

These Malikia types are living in some fantasy that people from somewhere else are much better than their own, many times pulling some cheap comparisons between Kenyans and people from elsewhere – it’s like a child that always runs to the neighbour to watch colour television because the television in their home is black and white! So sad.

She can as well call herself by some other name that syncronises her better with where she belongs,- her current name is Swahili-Kenyan,- she does not belong there!

Shocking “Open Letter To Kenyans In Stockholm”

An Open Letter To Wakenya Wenye Midomo Kaya!

I must say that am once again very disappointed by you Kenyans! No wonder I never felt a hint of guilt when I disowned my Kenyan citizenship. Trust me I would do it again and again, given a chance. There is no pride being a Kenyan!

Why all this fuss! Because you Kenyans in Stockholm know nothing better than meddle in other people private affairs. Think of how many homes you have wrecked with your midomo kaya. You should be ashamed. I wish you could be 2% of your Nigerians brothers. Look and learn from them.

Any way I just wanted to set some records straight concerning me and the so called chairman. Yes it’s true we were lovers and still are with serious intention of consummating our undying love into a glorious marriage. And it’s true that he took some loans for me, and who told you that I never deserved it.

What Kenyans don’t know is that I washed and clothed this man for 4 years just as Chinua Achebe said ‘if a boy washes himself up he can dine with kings…..’ and sure enough I did on my own achieve this…and then the competition began.

We were to get married until you midomo kaya started fuelling the fire, what on earth did you expect me to do, sit down and cry for my down fall. Forget it am simply not that naive. Woe to those that thought that our love will not survive, though we are now married for convenience to other people, we are still very very much in love.

To mama watoto my message is ’wii fange……..’

“Rape Story” Pulled Down Through “Executive Powers”

The young lady whose picture was published at KSB this morning has taken contact with the blog and said that the rape comment attached to the story was not true. She said that the story was taken out of context by the commentator and requested that the comment be pulled down. KSB has accepted to pull down the rape comment as a matter of responsibility and in the spirit of accountability.

The girl is dealing with the problem in her own way and has said that it will be a big help for her if the record can be set straight. She said that The Standard did not publish her version of the story and chose instead to give the impression that she was disorderly.

KSB understands that the rape angle to the story is extremely damaging and since the girl is already dealing with the issue, the best KSB can do in the situation is to help her go through the “healing process” by stating categorically that the blog cannot stand for the rape angle of the story. We now believe that the comment, which was sent via email and which appeared authoritative, may have been made out of malice by an enemy.

While the picture is embarrassing, exists at The Standard web site and doing the rounds via email, KSB takes this early opportunity to sincerely apologize to the young girl for any inconveniences that might have been caused to her as a result of the “rape angle” published at the blog. The girl’s family and close friends who are also well known to KSB have made very humble pleas that the story be retired in the interest of truth, peace and unity.

We appreciate the understanding by the girl, her family members and friends alike that KSB has a right to maintain the picture at the site while correcting the wrong impression created by a comment that was not attributed to The Standard. The picture will still be available at The Standard and KSB is retiring it from the blog as a compensation to the damage that may have been created by the rape angle.

As a further contribution to “damage control” during her healing process after the tragic experience, and as a result of extremely humble pleas from family members, good contacts and friends alike, we wish to come to a closure over the issue by curtailing any comments on the story using “Executive powers” conferred upon the President of the Republic of KSB. We hope that the young girl will now begin to reconstruct her life and carry herself more responsibly in the future.

KSB On “The Standard” With Kavinga Story

Juliet Kavinga arrived in Sweden in 2002 in the search for greener pastures. An opportunity came for the woman who hailed from Kavati village, Makueni District, in the form of a modest hairdressing job. More luck appeared to come her way when she entered into a relationship with a Swedish man. But the relationship ended in tragedy. Her boyfriend was alleged to have shot her in the head and dumped the body in a lake. At the time, she was seven months pregnant.

The late Juiet Kavinga

The late Juiet Kavinga

According to police reports, her body was found floating at Lake M‰laren in the outskirts of Stockholm in July 30, 2005, three months after she went missing. Friends and relatives view the remains during the funeral service of the late Juliet Kavinga at a church in Stockholm. Kavinga had been shot in the back of the head at close range, her body packed in a tarpaulin and dumped in the lake. CCI traced her steps and last moments in Sweden. A Kenyan businessman in Sweden, Wesley Onyango, told CCI that he first met Kavinga at Fittja Beach in 2002.

“She had just arrived in Sweden and was with some of her bags at Fittja Beach during a nyama choma festival organised by Kenyans,” he remembers. Good Samaritan Onyango says she knew this was the only place she could bump into a Kenyan to assist her with accommodation. “She approached my wife and asked her if we could accommodate her since it was getting dark and she did not have a place to stay. We agreed to assist her,” he says.

They stayed with her for six months before they introduced her to a Kenyan woman who employed her at a salon in Sˆdert‰lje township. Kavinga later met her boyfriend during a 2004 group boat trip to Helsinki, Finland. They fell in love and in December 2004, she became pregnant.

According to Heidi Helena, a Kenyan friend living in Sweden, a friend from the church told Aftonbladet Newspaper that Kavinga became very worried after the pregnancy. “I am very worried about the man responsible since he is rooting for an abortion,” Kavinga is said to have confided. Her immediate fears were premised on whether she would be able to visit a anti-natal clinic with her status as an illegal immigrant.

“She was also worried that she would be thrown out of Sweden if she visited a hospital,” the report read. The man is said to have accused Kavinga of deliberately conceiving so as to gain citizenship through marriage.

“She was very disappointed when her boyfriend rejected the pregnancy. As time passed, she did not know what to do and it was apparent that she was disturbed,” Jennifer Anna, a Liberian who was Kavinga’s friend, is quoted as having told the publication.

Kavinga later called friends for a meeting on May 12, 2005. But she never turned up. On May 14, she was reported missing. Okoth Osewe, a Kenyan living in the country running the Stockholm Blog told CCI through e-mail that he was among those who followed the murder trial as it unfolded.

“I found it patriotic to document the proceedings since the media here was part of a cover-up conspiracy. To them, just another nigger had died,” he said. Osewe adds: “Court experts ruled out that the boyfriend had any motive of killing her.” Experts said it was impossible to define whether she was hit on the head with a blunt object or she was shot since her body had decomposed.

Last contact
In the murder trial of her boyfriend, Winfred Mungatia, a Kenyan living in Sweden and who claimed to have been Kavinga’s friend, testified that she was the last person to talk to her alive. “I talked to her on phone on May 13 2005. I was supposed to meet her the following day but she never appeared. Later, I learnt from the police that I was the last person to communicate to her,” Mungatia said.

During the trial, the prosecution confirmed that the suspect had a romantic relationship with Kavinga, had a history of violent crimes and a record of assaulting women. Chief Prosecutor, Tora Holst, told the court that the motive of the murder was Kavinga’s refusal to secure an abortion. A section of Kavinga’s medical records that the prosecution tabled in court indicated that the accused was responsible for the pregnancy. Her expected date of delivery was July 25, 2005.

The prosecution also tabled audiovisuals showing a small lorry, which was at the highway heading to where Kavinga’s body was dumped. The accused was reported to have been behind the wheels. “The suspect returned the lorry to the hiring company on May 15, 2005 at 18.46, two days after Kavinga disappeared,” Holst submitted. In July 2006, he was acquitted to the dismay of Kavinga’s friends.

The courts refused to recognise the 34-year-old as a “suspect” with probable motive of murdering Kavinga, Osewe says. Eventually, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence.
The then first secretary at the Kenyan Embassy in Sweden, George Kinyua, attended all the court sessions and even the memorial service held on September 12 2005. Today, as Kavinga rests in peace in her father’s compound in Makueni, her relatives have one unanswered question: Why has justice eluded us?

Breaking News: Moussa Awuonda Is Dead

Mr. Moussa Awuonda, an outstanding Kenyan journalist who has been based in Stockholm for many years, has passed away in Stockholm. The news has reached KSB with great shock and sorrow. Death has robbed the Kenyan community of a great and promising journalist who has been in the fronlines in using the media to serve society.

Yesterday, KSB featured a story about Awuonda’s son who is currently in Kenya and who is seeking to play in the Kenyan national team. We did not know that Mr. Awuonda would be passing away in a few hours after the featuring of the story at KSB.

Mr. Awuonda has been ailing for some time although it did not appear as though his life was in danger. The Kenyan journalist will greatly be missed by those who knew him. May his soul rest in peace. Further info can be obtained by calling Rose Adero at: 0708597607.

Mapambano Supports Striking Teachers

The Coalition government is, for the first time, being confronted by its first major labour dispute between the Kenyan National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Ministry of Education. At the center of the dispute is a long standing pay rise package that has been dragging on since the days of the Moi dictatorship.

According to details of the dispute, the teachers are demanding a pay rise of Sh19.2 billion to be paid in one installment while the government is offering Ksh17.3 billion to be paid in three installments. The teacher’s demand mean that the lowest paid teacher will earn Sh13,750 while the highest pay will rise to Sh120,000.

Striking teachers in Kenya

Striking teachers in Kenya

According to the government’s offer, the lowest paid teacher will scoop Sh11,433 while the highest will be paid Sh71,338.

While the pay rise package could have been acceptable to the teachers, the problem is that the teachers have a history of betrayal on the part of the government after every negotiated agreement with their Union – the Kenya National Union of Teachers – which called the strike.

In 1997, a similar agreement was reached by the vanquished Moi dictatorship which also agreed to pay the increment in three installments. When the deal came to implementation stage, the Moi dictatorship reneged and the teachers ended up with a raw deal which left them with low salaries.

When the Kibaki-led Narc government came to power in January 2003, the Coalition campaigned on a platform of increasing the Teacher’s salary but once Kibaki seized power, he made a U-turn on almost all election promises, forcing the teachers to continue living on starvation wages.

When KNUT negotiated the latest deal with the government, the Union refused to accept payment by installment because the Union has been the victim of repeated deception after every deal.

The Union has been unable to accept payment by installment, partly because of the government’s extravagance especially when it comes to salaries of Members of Parliament whose monthly scoops are running to a million Kenyan shillings per month. The big question is: If the government has money to pay the huge salaries of MPs, how comes there is no money to pay the teachers?

It has been difficult for the government to convince teachers that there is no money to pay them because politicians sitting in Parliament are living lavish life-styles after increasing their own salaries to astronomical levels and tripling their basic allowances with impunity. Another source of anger for the teachers has been the refusal of the MPs to have their fat salaries taxed when each and every toiling worker in Kenya is burdened by taxes of every description.

What is the Government’s Biggest Worry?
The strike is also playing itself against a back drop of corruption in government with the latest scandals featuring theft of public funds in the oil and food industry. In a shocking revelation, it emerged that the Ministry of Energy collaborated with a corrupt Asian businessman to cat away more than Sh7 billion in oil revenue at a time when oil prices across the country have become unaffordable.

Another recent scandal worth mentioning is the “Maize scandal” in which a company whose share holders are suspected to be top government officials was awarded tender to handle maize at the port city of Mombasa. That was after money linked to maize purchase to address the crisis of famine (which has been declared a national disaster by the President) was stolen with the culprits still at large.

The government is in crisis because although it threatened to sack the striking teachers, it will be impossible for the Ministry of Education to find replacement for 235,000 teachers within a short period of time and this means that it will have to negotiate a way out of the crisis.

Another problem the government faces is that KUPPET, a rival teacher’s Union the government tried to use to divide the teachers, has suffered a major blow after teachers quit the Union to join KNUT when they noticed that KUPPET was on its way to selling out the teacher’s strike by being compromised. KUPPET was set up during the Moi dictatorship which, unable to deal with the teacher’s struggle under a United KNUT, tried to set up an alternative Union to compete with KNUT.

Traditionally, the government has managed to wriggle out of the crisis by buying top Union bureaucrats who then called off the strike after accepting peace-meal increments that ended up being dishonored by the government. It will be interesting to see how the dispute ends, given that the government is dealing with new Union leaders.

Another issue is that the government fears that a successful strike action that forces the government to back down could inspire workers in other government sectors to take similar strike actions to demand higher wages with devastating economic consequences. The truth is that workers in other sectors are watching the teacher’s struggle very keenly and it is possible that they may borrow the teacher’s tactics if they believe that they can also win, a threat that the government does not want to promote.

Workers Need to Organize Around a Party
From the point of view of Mapambano, the teacher’s struggle for higher wages needs to be supported by all Kenyans because teachers are some of the most exploited workers in Kenya who are burdened with a huge work load and paid peanuts by the government. Just like all workers in Kenya, and given the level of inflation across the country, teachers are living on starvation wages and their current struggle for higher wages is not only just and fair but also long overdue. Mapambano hopes that this time around, KNUT leaders will not allow themselves to be bought by the ruling classes to betray the struggle of the 250,000 teachers who have taken to the streets to force the government to bend.

Mapambano’s message to the striking teachers is that while the strike action is a step in the right direction, teachers need to begin engaging in active politics as a way of pushing their collective interests. We are putting forward the option of a “Workers’ Party” that could also vie for power so that critical issues about worker’s salaries are not just negotiated by members of the thieving ruling class which has an upper hand when it comes to implementation but can also be discussed in Parliament as a matter of national concern.

The issue of a “Workers Party” is not just an issue which teachers in Kenya need to consider. Workers across the country should understand that it is the tax they pay that is running the country and from the point of view of Mapambano, there is no reason why workers in Kenya cannot organize themselves around a Workers’ Party to try and seize power and run the country, not in the interest of the corrupt ruling class but in the interest of those who toil every day and pay taxes that the wealth grabbers are living on. We will be putting more ideas around the issue of a Worker’s Party in the cause of time. Long live the struggle of the teachers!

Kenyan Madona Needs Enlightenment – Muigai

I read our sister’s comments with utter indignation and bewilderment. At this day and age when everyone is calling for the emancipation of both people of color and gender, one of our sisters comes along and loudly states that we are all subscribing to Western culture by refusing to accept the practice of battering women into submission. She moreover sees no issue in that certain men are prone to the use of terror in a desperate attempt at subjugation. Make no mistake, physical violence is the worst form of terror there is. Victims of this kind of violence are unsure of when the next blow will be delivered and live in a state of being perpetual afraid and forced docility, being effectively transformed into walking and taking zombies. I wonder who would like a life partner of this sort.

Our sister most certainly needs enlightenment and emancipation from her asocial attitude that reflects on the state of her self-esteem. A lesson in history may perhaps begin the process of her re-assimilation into civilized society. Before African societies were colonized, violence towards the weak and especially those closest to you was not tolerated. Men who beat on their wives or children were ostracized and paid heavy fines if they were to be accepted back into the fold. This is because women were recognized as the nucleus of the family and at the very core of cohesive society. Then the colonialist came along with his definition of civilization where the African was defined as sub-human, related to the beasts of the field.

The African was also treated as such. Beatings and other atrocities were meted out often and with impunity. All in the name of subjugating the African into obedience without question. This treatment robbed the African man of his manhood and he was indoctrinated him into believing that this kind of treatment built character. Soon whips were cracking and howling their message in African homes spelling the end of our civilization as a people. The colonialist looked on with satisfaction at his creation, reasoning that this was to be expected because any race of people NOT springing from the Homo sapiens would rather die defending love ones than chastise them as heavily as their conquerors did. It went only to confirm what was widely seen at the time as modern anthropology in the home countries of the colonialist. Western scientists had advanced their theory of the races where the African was described as being mentally inferior and processing the intelligence of a European child. This “scientific fact” has been passed down to the descendants of the colonialists even to this age, and is used behind the scenes to explain the failures in our countries and lives in general.

With this same history lesson in mind, our sister plays into the hands of those that would label us as savages and uncivilized. She actually confirms the biased notion of the African being intellectually inferior, especially so being a woman that is advocating for the use of violence on women. Makes on sense at all! I urge our sister to reconsider her stand, if not; the best contribution she would make to our society is sign up as a study for one of our African brothers or sisters in the fields of psychology and psychiatry. This would make a fine contribution and afford the African community acclaim in the advancement of the study of post-traumatic stress syndrome of which most definitely ails Kenyan Madona.

Son Of Kenya-Stockholmer For Harambee Stars

atieno3

Atieno in action

Harambee Stars striking problems could be solved by Taiwo Atieno, a 23-year old Kenyan who plays in Puetorico Islanders.

He was born Taiwo Leo Awuonda Atieno in Brixton, South London in 1985 to a former Nation Newspapers correspondent Moussa Awuonda and English mother Brigit Mary Glaisher.

He came back to Kenya on Sunday to trace some his family in Alego. During his 12-day visit to Kenya, Atieno hopes to meet Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi to push his case.

“It has been my dream to play for Kenya since I was 13 and I know people may question my interest in the team,” Atieno admitted in an exclusive interview with Nation Sports Desk on Monday.

Lethal striker

What he wants is a chance to show his potential and is ready to be called for trials by the Harambee Stars technical bench.

Atieno is aware of Kenya’s lethal striker Dennis Oliech who plies his trade in France for Auxerre.

“I understand he is quick which is good because I am also fast and we could compliment each other,” he added.

There is no doubt in Atieno’s mind that Kenya could qualify for the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa in a tough Pool which also has Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique.

He observes that Kenyan players are athletically well built and Harambee Stars could do with a target player comparable to England’s Emile Heskey and Peter Crouch.

Atieno who is strong in the air with a good burst of speed believes these attributes would help Oliech or any other player get into space to bang in the goals.

He is sure his presence in the team could add more interest in Harambee Stars players in the UK, USA and other countries.

For a player who passed a chance to play for the Pueterico national team last year, Atieno would like to be a bridge between Kenya and other countries.

“My long term plan is to establish links between Kenyan teams and others from the UK or USA,” Atieno revealed.

The bottom line is that Atieno is ready to fight for a place in Harambee Stars and leave a mark.

He started playing soccer at eight at Charlton Athletic’s youth team before moving to Walswall Football Club in the Midlands at 14.

He turned professional at 16 with the championship side Walswall FC. In 2006, he moved to Tamworth FC and scored 13 goals in 28 matches.

It was in 2007 that Atieno joined Pueterico Islanders who compete in American League One. They won the league last year with Atieno scoring 13 goals.

Wife-Beating: Madona Calls For “An End To Stupidity”

I wish to differ on the on-going wife beating debate among Kenyans in Stockholm. In many cultures in Kenya, beating women is acceptable because it is the only way through which a man can discipline a woman who misbehaves. Kenyan men who have been beating their women deserve support because they are acting out of instinct. These are loyal cultural activists who are revolting against the white culture based on having two heads in a family. It never works.

There is an adage in Kenya that “never get in between” a fighting couple because after the fight, they will go and do it in bed and then begin to blame you for their problems. You will become enemy number one. The practice of men beating their women is an accepted activity in many Kenyan cultures and to try and demonize men who have been giving their women a bashing is unfair because these men are simply being loyal to culture.

There are two kinds of beatings. The “slapping” which is harmless and the “heavy battering” which leads to injury and, sometimes, death. It is the heavy battering that should be condemned, not the occasional slapping meant to “panel-beat the woman in line”. This kind of slap is the kind you give a naughty kid on the buttocks to keep the kid in line. It is always harmless unless carried too far. Any woman who tries to hit back after being slapped will surely be battered so never try. Just relax but make sure you evaluate whether you will be facing slaps or real beatings.

Those who are talking about wife beating are mixing the two activities and elevating “slapping” into “battering” for effect. How comes that after the blogger “battered” his ex or after the Chairman “battered” his wife, the two never had any serious injuries? This should be evidence that they were just slapped, not beaten. A man who gives the woman the real beating and hurts her should be condemned. What I am saying is that African culture allows for a certain level of “discipline” in the home which has to be done by the man.

Even governments employ a level of violence against their own people for purposes of “discipline” otherwise there would be chaos in the country and total disorder. In Kenya, the police even shoot citizens to death on behalf of the government or tear-gas stupid citizens demonstrating against the government in the streets. The Army and the police are special units for instigating violence during trouble to regain some order with the President being the head of the house so what are we saying?

I have myself been slapped several times by my husband for some stupid mistakes I did but I never took these slaps as beatings. A woman who discusses secret family matters with enemies of her husband deserves a slap, not a beating. Without slapping a woman once in a while, men become incomplete and this is something our women have not understood because they have been brainwashed by Western cultures that has banned the two types of beating and that has elevated slapping a woman into a terrible crime.

When You Are Slapped, Take It Easy
There is no need of scaring married men with the monster of “wife beating” because this will lead to emasculation of men who will begin to panic within the home and fear the woman for no reason. What should be emphasized is that instead of beating the woman, give her a slap and nothing else.

The act of slapping relieves the man of temper and gets the load off his chest. A slap is harmless and might even increase love in the home, contrary to opinion that any slight “touching of the woman” amounts to a beating.

When I know am wrong, I sometimes invite my husband to slap me on the buttocks to avoid a long arguement that could mess up his mood in the evening and it works like magic. The poor guy normally feels relieved and it happens very quickly. I then bring him some warm tea and that night, I get my thing. This is how I have perfected using the “slapping instinct” of these animals called males.

Scaring men with police will simply give women “big heads” and scare bachelors from getting married, a situation that may lead to hundreds and thousands of stranded young women with no one to marry them. In the end, our population will go down because of these “white scare tactics” that is getting into the heads of members of our society as quickly as the spread of Ukimwi.

Some people have been wondering why some women fail to report “cases of abuse” by men. These women are the cleaver ones because they understand the difference between being slapped and being beaten. You should know the level of violence a man you have lived with is capable of and report to police or walk out of a relationship when you are convinced that the man is not interested in slapping but beating you to hurt you or even kill you.

A friend of mine called me last night and told me that her husband slapped her after she stretched the food budget and bought a pair of nice shoes she admired which was going cheaply. She understood that she did something stupid and paying with a slap was cheap because she has her shoes. After the slap, she told me that the poor dude will now have to stretch his credit card because the kids have to eat. This is the way to go, not rushing to police.

How comes that the Chairman has been accused of having been a womanizer yet for more than ten years, no woman has ever accused him of spouse-beating? Those who know the Chairman knows that he is not a violent guy and I am convinced that the so called beating was actually a slap otherwise the woman’s face should have been deformed, lost a tooth or suffered a broken bone if she got a real beating. I know the blogger to be a very cool guy who can never even hurt a fly. When he slapped his ex following a provocation, it was immediately elevated into a “battering”, why?

My appeal to women is this: Let us not follow wazungu blindly. Instead, let us use our senses to differentiate between a “violent husband” and a “slapping husband” because as a matter of instinct, and in as much as we may want to be in denial, men are animals who require to exercise their so called superiority in one way or another and slapping is one of them.

If you have been watching “Discovery” or “Animal Planet”, even male animals in the jungle have a tendency of trying to dominate their spouses while protecting their teritory. We are animals with intelligence. Why can’t we understand nature by observing wild animals? If a man tells you to go and change winter tyres on your own, it means you have been competing with him in the house.

Blind Following of White Culture
When you are slapped, take it easy. What is a slap compared to taking your husband to police then KSB picking up the story and your relationship being the talk of town?

You should tell when the slap begins to get far and report or get out of the relationship. I know this view may not be popular but there is freedom of expression. The attempt to emasculate our men by denying them the opportunity to slap their women because of fear of police will lead to them malfunctioning as the head of the family.

What will you be doing with a husband who is “as scared as a rat” in the house when he ought to be exercising his masculinity and feeding you powerfully with that sweet beef? A functioning family needs constant arguments in the house and sometimes your mouth slips and you say something stupid in the cause of argument and you get slapped. Calling police or rushing to KSB in such situations is what I call stupidity.

I always tell my husband that he can slap me but the day he beats me, I will report to police and quit the relationship and he has never beaten me. Kenyans should wake up and stop silly comments fed by consuming lots of white culture which encourages oral and anal sex. Let the men be men and women be women then the two can sort themselves out. If they can’t, they should split. It’s that simple. My fellow Kenyans, stop being silly here in Sweden.

More Petersson’s Ex Wants To Know

In early 2000, I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Peterson Murini Kinyua. Bad luck our relation ended. This Christmas, I visited Sweden, and wanted to meet him, but all in vain. Badly, even those people whom I met, they didn’t give me much information on him. Upon coming back to Russia, I started a search on him, which landed me on your blog. My efforts allowed me to understand roughly that he is in some sot of trouble.

As an old friend, I would like to ask you to highlight the situation he is in. I will really appreciate if you will brief me on this. What I want to ask you is: where he is now (in Kenya or Sweden), is he OK, what allegation(s). where forwaded against him and how the Kenyan community helped (helping) him. I am not asking for any information you find secret. Will be waiting for any news. Thanks in advance

Friend in Russia
NB. I tried his email (petersonmurinikinyua@yahoo.com) but I am getting no answer.

KSB: Could someone update our Russian blondie what happened to her ex-sweetheart Petersson?
