Jailed Kenyan Added Two More Years In Swedish Prison

A 35 year old Kenyan national who was served a three year jail term by a Swedish court in Summer has been added two more years in prison by a Swedish Appeals court. The Kenyan was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of infecting a 14 year old Swedish girl with HIV. The Kenyan will also pay a fine of 1.3 million kr (about 13 million Kenyan shillings), up from 800.000 kr he was to pay following initial sentence.

At the initial trial in Stockholm, the Kenyan was freed of charges of having had unprotected sex with a 57 year old woman and seriously assaulting her. After the sentence, the Prosecution appealed against the judgement and sought to have the Kenyan jailed for crimes he had allegedly committed against the 57 year old woman.

The new sentence means that the Kenyan will now serve a total of 5 years in prison. The Bench was divided on the judgement with one member taking the position that the Kenyan was not guilty of charges related to the 57 year old.

Through his brother resident in Sweden, the Kenyan thanked fellow countrymen who have been supporting him during his tribulations with the Swedish authorities. He thanked a couple who has continued to support his family economically in Kenya since he was taken into custody while he also thanked Mrs Grace Nyambura for continued support.

The jailed Kenyan also thanked everybody who has been praying for him and said that in prison, he intends to take a course in “Counselling” so that when he is released from prison, he can begin to counsel people.

He advised Kenyans who are in the HIV risk zone to test themselves and establish their HIV status saying that what happened to him could happen to anybody. He said that he never infected the 14 year old knowingly and added that he still could not understand exactly how the whole infection allegedly happened.

He warned Kenyans who have relationships with white Swedish women and told them to be careful because of the risk of landing in prison without proper reasons.

The Kenyan thanked KSB for having carried a mature and balanced report questioning certain aspects of his trial together with the whole process of the Swedish legal system especially when it came to Africans.

He said that KSB had asked “Who was next” in the Swedish system of injustice and pointed out that the fact that another Kenyan is now facing charges similar to his and brought by a Swedish woman should be proof that members of the Kenyan society in Sweden should watch out.

The Kenyan’s brother told KSB that the family will continue to support their kin in whatever way possible and appealed to Kenyans to continue praying for him and the entire family. The brother also thanked the Kenyan Embassy for having visited the Kenyan in custody and hoped that in future, the Embassy will do more to help Kenyans in similar situations.

Swedish Media Picks Story Of Accused HIV Positive Kenyan

Metro, a Swedish Newspaper which profiles itself as the “biggest newspaper in Sweden” has published a story about an HIV positive Kenyan facing an assortment of charges after being accused by his former girlfriend.

The Story, published on Metro’s November 7th edition, is titled “New HIV Man facing charges” with a sub-headline which reads “31 year-old accused by his former girlfriend”.

It says: “He is suspected of rape, attempt at serious mishandling and serious curtailment of a woman’s freedom”. The paper says that the man is 31 years old, lives in Stockholm and was infected with HIV at least a year ago.

“Both police and Prosecutor are very reserved as to whether the suspect has had unprotected sex with numerous women”, says the Paper. Henrik Olander, a police officer could not comment further because “investigations were continuing.

The paper continues that “The woman is 23 years old and has not yet tested positive for HIV but it can take up to twelve weeks from the day of infection before one can see if one has been infected with HIV”.

Petter Sundsten, the Journalist behind the story writes: “The woman, who has one child with the man, said herself during interrogation that she was raped more than 40 times by the 31 year old during the past half a year. She has, in the past, been in touch with the local dispensary after being mishandled by the man but she never reported to police until mid October this year”. The paper adds that the 31 year old has denied the charges.

The story quotes the Kenyan’s Lawyer Peter Skeppstedt who says that the position of the accused is that the charges are faulty because they are based on jealousy after he met another woman.

“The 31 year old has, in the past been jailed for mishandling, violent resistance and having a knife at a public place”, the story says. The case will come up on 16th November, concludes the story.

POINTS TO PONDER AS KENYAN AWAITS TRIAL
The publication of the story in one of the mainstream Swedish media is significant, not just because it raises certain critical issues but because it helps feed debate that erupted among Kenyans soon after the story was published at KSB.

The difference between the story and the KSB story is not on factual presentations but on time factor. KSB appears to have been slightly ahead of the Swedish media and those who have been wondering when the Kenyan went to prison can now take contact with Metro and say that they have been “hanging out” with the Kenyan all through and that Peter Skeppstedt should give dates when the Kenyan went to prison because he has “never disappeared” – holy smoke!

In Sweden, you could be chilling with a guy at Vassa even if he is serving a prison term because prisoners are routinely given vacation to go out and have a good time with friends. You can also serve a prison term by simply having an electronic ring placed around your ankle. Whether or not you get out of prison to meet friends depends on the individual prisoner, the magnitude of the crime, character of prisoner and many other factors. Next time you go chilling, don’t just assume that your mate is a free animal. He/she might be on ruhusa.

Although the Kenyan was never named by KSB, Vincent Odede, a friend of the Kenyan, claimed that it was wrong for the story to have been published at KSB because the “personal details” that followed amounted to defaming the Kenyan.

He also claimed that the details were such that KSB must have talked to someone connected to the Kenyan because in Sweden, there is “tystnadsplikt” (oath of secrecy) among public officers! Now that the story is doing the rounds in the Swedish media, will the likes of Odede take contact with the Journalists in charge or will they learn a lesson or two about Press freedom?

The baseless Odede grumbles aside, what is questionable in the story is the attempt by the Journalist to try and link up the Kenyan with “numerous women” he might have had unprotected sex with. According to court documents, there is no mention that the man has had unprotected sex with many girls and so far the charges are restricted to what his former girlfriend told police.

From the point of view of KSB, the major reason why the media is trying to hook up the “many women” angle is to strengthen the perception that the Kenyan might have consciously tried to infect many women since this is the angle that has been selling among Swedish publics especially in cases where HIV positive Africans are facing charges brought up by Swedish women. Any disgruntled or frustrated HIV positive white Swedish girl who pops up and says she had a relationship with this Kenyan could easily end up being a Prosecution witness!

It is ridiculous that a white Swedish woman could have been raped “More than 40 times” without ever reporting to police, choosing to do so at a time when the relationship was basically over.

It is becoming abundantly clear that charges of HIV infections reported in the Swedish media are coming with the tag of “HIV Mannen” even in cases where it has not been shown that the suspect had infected a huge number of women to warrant such a tag which is reserved for rampaging HIV renegades.  These are points to ponder as the Kenyan awaits trial.

Kenyan Woman Attacked At Old People’s Nursing Home

A Kenyan woman who works at an old people’s nursing home was last week given a one week sick leave after she got a heavy blow from an old man she was helping. The man, who is half way paralysed, used his healthy arm to attack the Kenyan woman on the chest. She had to be rushed to the emergency department at Danderyd Hospital because of severe chest and breast pains. The attack was witnessed by a Swedish work colleague who came to the assistance of the Kenyan woman after the attack.

The Kenyan said that she was about to change the old man’s diaper when the attack occurred. She told KSB that the old man has been very uncooperative with workers and that he is well known for violence against workers.

The Kenyan recorded a statement after her boss was informed about the incident. Her Trade Union was also informed and a discussion about what needs to be done is expected this week.

The Kenyan said that it was the second attack this year. On another occasion, the old man attacked her as she was changing diapers. She told KSB that the old man suddenly spilt crap on her face because he was opposed to his diapers being changed by black people.

The Kenyan said that it is normal for the old man to call her “Nigger” and other expletives but that she never reacts because she wanted to keep her job. She added that many workers at the home are known to be uncomfortable working with the old man because of his violent behaviour.

Working at old people’s nursing homes has been “booming” among Immigrant and Swedish communities and Kenyans have not been left behind.

The perception that jobs at old people’s homes are “dirty” has been fading in the face of high unemployment and the option of back-breaking jobs like cleaning at schools, scrubbing deep sufurias (with your head submerged in the sufuria) at MacDonalds, washing 5.000 plates per day at Restaurants or spreading an average of 20 beds per day at Hotels.

“I Was Not A Major Player At Flemmingsberg Party” – Opee Jr

Mr. Otieno Opee Jr, a Kenyan who was associated with a poorly attended Party at Flemmingsberg last Friday, has told KSB that he was not involved in the organization of the Party. A report at KSB about the Party said that it appeared as though the people “who seem to have been in charge were Mr. Antony Adiwa and Otieno Opee Jr”.

Making the clarification, Mr. Opee Jr said that he was called by Mr. Adiwa two days before the Party and asked if he could help. Mr. Adiwa told him that he was very good at selling drinks at an ODM Party and requested him to assist at the Party. He accepted.

A KISS agent who was assigned to the function spotted Mr. Opee Jr selling drinks although the agent did not establish the circumstances because he had gone to the Party to spy and not to openly investigate. Since he was selling drinks, the assumption was that he was in the thick of things.

According to Mr. Opee Jr, his friends have been wondering why he could have been involved in the organization of a Party without inviting them.

“I told Mr. Adiwa that he should have used the available channels to advertise the Party”, Opee Jr told KSB, confirming that the Party was poorly attended.

He said that apart from selling drinks, he knew nothing else about the Party. He pointed out that it was important that KSB correct the picture that he was one of the organizers because if he were involved, he could have invited all his friends including contacts at KSB.

KSB takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Opee Jr for having come up to put the record straight.

The Weekend That Was In Kenya Stockholm

If you are a Kenyan in Stockholm and you never went anywhere over the week-end, you can sit back and find out what was going on. Officially, there were two functions although according to reports so far filed by loyal KISS agents, there were at least five gatherings.

In Alby, Kesofo top brass was having a fundraising Dinner. It was a new idea by leaders of a young Kenyan organization whose members believe that they need to organize. Out of the nine Committee members who were behind the Dinner, eight were in attendance. Every CM was free to invite friends and there were a couple of Kenyans who turned up.

I hadn’t met Nelly and Pauline for a long time and it was good talking to them. The food was fantastic, not to mention the Kachumbari which went with the Chomaz. The success of the event encouraged Committee members to expand the activity even further next time.

MWAURA’S FAMILY ARRIVES FROM KENYA
Bwana Daniel Mwaura, the Narc-Kenya Chairperson and Kesofo Committee member, was there with big news. His family had eventually arrived in Sweden – wife plus three children – Jessica, Mike and Bryan. Guests congratulated Bwana Mwaura who was also welcomed into the “Phd Club” by members like Makan. He announced that he had now increased the population of Kenyans in Stockholm by at least four and gusts were amused.

Mwaura sounded very happy and satisfied because at long last, he could put the negative propaganda that has been circulating in Stockholm aside and continue with life. Mwaura had to go through a very difficult time as he tried to organize for his family to join him. If you didn’t catch the news, he had to undergo a DNA test because a Kenyan had allegedly called the Swedish Immigration authorities to report that the kids were not his but those of a neighbour in Kenya.

It was unique for Mwaura to have gone public with the difficulties he was facing and this move underlined the bitterness with which he treated the issue. One question that remains is why a Kenyan should be doing this to a fellow countryman. KSB congratulates Mwaura and Family and wishes them nice settlement in turbulent Stockholm.

KSB “SETTING THE TEMPO”
Munala wa Munala was also present and we discussed the latest “hot gossip” in the blogs. It appears like KSB has been “setting the tempo” in what is discussed at other blogs. The story about the “businessman” was raised by almost everybody and here, Wakenya wondered why the  guy could not sort out his problems with the victim who was named at the blog instead of pouring venom at KSB.

The funny thing is that he is even trying to interfere with “Free speech” in the Internet and threatening to ban people from attending Kenyan parties – holy smoke! Is this guy afraid that Wakenya will come trooping with scandal at KSB?

He has even hired the services of “Blog-goons” calling themselves Nyams, Man Kebi, Jeuri etal to spit crap at KSB under the cover of anonymity using the very principles of “free speech” he believes he can ban in the Internet. The goons cannot show their ugly faces because they are scared that they will be kicked. Now, the faceless goons are slowly converting the blog into a “cess-pit”, like RCbowen.com as one Kenyan put it where you can go and relieve yourself anonymously at will.

If he has a good case, he should wait for his day in Court. KSB will not be opened for miscreants to pour scorn on Wakenya and friends anonymously and this position will not change. They squat at KSB 24/7 “waiting for something” and once they get their dose, they go to work – welcome! Trying to stop free speech in the Internet is like trying to stop a huge Sunami with your bare hands.

Apart from the Dinner, a group of Kenyan Christians were having a “Prayer meeting” at the residence of Mrs Catherine Kiboi who lost her husband in September last year. The Prayers were being led by the Bagarmossen Church where Mrs Kiboi also goes for worship. It was a small gathering to show solidarity with the bereaved family and that was good.

As usual, a few Kenyans did grumble – that when Kiboi passed away, they were going to the residence everyday to support the family but when it came to Prayers, it was only a few people invited.

The truth of the matter is that this Prayer meeting was not intended for “Vinywaji worshippers” who could have complained for lack of “Swallowhip sessions” after Fellowship. It was an internal family business and since the family thought of Prayers, it could not begin to send invitation to “Who is Who” in the Kingdom of Vinywaji. We agree with the family on this one.

POORLY ATTENDED KENYAN PARTY AT FLEMMINGSBERG
And if you did not know about it, Kenyans had a Party at a Lokal in Flemingsberg on Friday and the people who were seen to have been in charge were Mr. Antony Adiwa and Otieno Opee Jr. It is not clear whether it was a “Secret Party” so an agent was sent to spy. It was poorly attended with less than 20 Kenyans present. This was strange because it was a month-end and there was no other bash rocking around so the expectation was that it should have been well attended.

According to initial analysis, the main problem appears to have been in the advertising of the Party and its agenda. KSB intercepted an email which was apparently used to advertise the Party but it seems not to have worked out. In Stockholm, you cannot really predict how Wakenya will respond to a Party and experience has shown that the forces around the Party matter while Wakenya must have an idea about where money raised at the Party will go. If they get their money’s worth, they will come back. If they don’t, they vanish and begin to talk eti una enjoy watu.

The entrance was 50 kr and we understand that nobody paid because there were very few people and if they were going to be told to pay, they could have left. An agent who was attached to the function counted at least 17 people and that was past midnight, time when the disco was supposed to be rocking. Five of them were organizers which means that the Party was attended by 12 people. Flemingsberg is far while the locality is not a well known Party area among Wakenya.

There is a Kenyan who used to organize many Parties when he was fund raising for a wedding and Wakenya really used to come. But when he tried to continue after the wedding, people just melted away and started talking crap eti he was trying to make money from Wakenya. He stopped.

What is wrong with making money by helping Wakenya to deal with their boredom especially during week-ends? Wakenya pour a lot of money at the “Temple of Vassa” everyday (leave alone week-ends) and guess who owns the place? If KSB was to set the rules (and this is a big IF), Wakenya who take the plunge should be allowed to make their money as long as they don’t defraud the Kenyan public in Stockholm because then, it becomes difficult to “help one of your own” as they say.

Apart from the Flemmingsberg Party, another Kenyan who lives in Stockholm’s business district hosted a Dinner on Friday and attendance was by “invitation only” but we will not go deeper than that because of strict instructions.

On Saturday, a Kenyan lady also hosted a Dinner for her daughter who was turning one year. Once again, attendance was by “invitations only”. The Kenyan will remain nameless and we take this opportunity to wish her and her family a prospective future.

What´s on In Stockholm?

There are two major activites in Stockholm today, Saturday 3rd November. To attend the functions, you must be invited so if you have no card, cool down in your crib or try hanging out somewhere.

The Kenya Social Forum in Sweden (Kesofo) is having an Executive Fund raising Dinner in Alby. The Kesofo leadership intends to expand participation of such Dinners in the future. It is the first Dinner in a series of planned Dinners to raise funds for the organization. You can attend the Dinner by getting a Kesofo “VIP Link” through any Kesofo Committee member or KSB which has one link. Check out Kesofo Committee members at the organization´s web site www.kesofo.org

There is a Thanks-giving Prayer Meeting” at the residence of Mrs Catherine Kiboi. Attendence is by invitation. According to sources, the Prayer is part of moral support of the Kiboi family which is still trying to cope with the loss of Mr. Kiboi who passed away last year. Members of the Bagarmossen Church will be leading the Prayers.

Arrested HIV Positive Kenyan And The Truth Of The Matter

After the story about a Kenyan currently in police custody was published at KSB, there was one serious response by a Kenyan who was brave enough to put his real name behind his opinion and whom we sincerely believe deserves a response. His name is Vincent Odede aka Vinni. We don’t respond to people who attack us anonymously using foul language because we believe in decency, open debate and respect. Vincent’s opinion was forwarded to KSB via email by a KSB supporter who believes that he raised pertinent issues.

Writing in his capacity as a “friend” of the arrested Kenyan, Vincent doubted the validity of the facts we presented and wrote: “…this information must have come either, from my friend’s wife or someone very close to her because of the specification of the dates…”. Most importantly, Vincent wrote:

“On a more serious issue, i read in one of our top blogs (KSB) today that my friend who was arrested last week is HIV positive, had raped his wife and has done time in the swedish *nyumba za wazee*(Jail), first of all, i do not know if he is HIV positive or not plus i ain’t no doctor, secondly all that information would be too much to get from a swedish tjänsteman for those of us who know anything about how the swedish systems work, ‘tystnad’s plikt’, in short the authorities cannot divulge information to you even if it is in enlightening you on your right hand from your left one, but then again i’m not a journalist how can i know if they get special treatment.

The information was obtained from the file of the Prosecutor, Eva Winzell in a document which reads: “(Name of accused) has on several occasions between March 2007 and 28th September 2007 had unprotected sex with the complainant, his former co-habitant and mother of their child, with the knowledge that he was HIV positive after a trip to Kenya”.

The document is dated 19th October 2007 and is signed by Andreas König, a Court clerk. The document goes on to say that the complainant has been tested but that the test result is not yet out.

Vincent also wanted to know where we obtained information about the dates, that the Kenyan had allegedly raped his wife and that he had done time in jail.

According to documents on file: “(Name of accused) is, among others, suspected of serious curtailing of a woman’s freedom between 1st July 2006 and 28th September, rape on 28th September 2007 and attempt to serious assault between March 2006 to 28th September 2006 at Hässelby”.

On the question of doing jail: “(Name of accused) has been in belastingregistret (police register): 2001violent resistance (to arrest) and pocession of a knife at a public place at the same time sentenced for miss-handling in 2005. The victim was, in this case, his former co-habitant/Mother of his eldest son”.

If there is something else that was reported at KSB which is not covered here then we invite Vincent to throw a new challenge.

If you know where to look, the information above is not classified as Vincent thinks and when it comes to publication, it is illegal and criminal to publish the name of the accused, not the information. Did we publish the name of the accused?

The Swedish mainstream media carries criminal personal histories of suspects almost on a daily basis, the latest being a guard who brutalized someone at Cafe Opera and who has been reported to police 15 times in the past. HIV status of a Kenyan currently serving jail term were splashed in the media liberally. Where was the likes of Odede to talk about the media “tarnishing” the Kenyan’s name? Only KSB protested that he did not deserve the title of “HIV man” which the media had given him.

IS VINCENT PROVIDING PROSECUTUION WITH EVIDENCE?
Instead of using the information to look into how the Kenyan can be helped, the likes of Vincent and his fire-breathing cohorts are busy, attacking the messenger who is accused of “talking to friends” of the Kenyan’s ex then rushing to the blog. We have not done this. Is it KSB that is fabricating stories or is it our critics who are uninformed in this case?

While KSB is under attack by the unenlightened, information about the “HIV status” of the Kenyan is being used in the Court system to try and send him to jail because, from our view, pinning the Kenyan down on other charges might be difficult due to lack of evidence. One Kenyan has already gone to jail on HIV charges because two charges of rape could not stand.

Where were the Odedes when we were shouting at the top of our voices, trying to argue that the Swedish justice system is unfair? A Blog site, which hosted Odedes letter quoted above, was the first to name the Kenyan who is now serving a three year jail term. When we pointed out that this was illegal, the blog owner quickly pulled the story down but not before the Kenyan’s brother took note. Who is spoiling whose name?

Vincent is doing a great disservice to his friend because he is unconsciously helping in his identification by providing details which are not in court documents. After his mail, Kenyans simply had to apply the “elimination theory” of Vincent’s friend to begin rounding up the identity of this Kenyan. Is this the way to go?

While adding other details, he wrote: “The second wife helped this guy settle a serious bill (I am talking big money) that he incurred earlier on, less than two months ago and later claimed that this guy was having extra curricular (extra-marital??) activities with another girl elsewhere…”.

By giving this kind of detail which is totally unrelated to the charges, Vincent is portraying his friend as an exploitative and heartless parasite who exploited an innocent Swedish woman and mother of his little child to clear his heavy debts (big money?) then dumped her. With the stereotypical and negative mentality of the establishment towards Africans, is Vincent aware that he is providing more evidence that could be used against his friend in Court and strengthening the case of the complainant?

What the Prosecution could do if they think that this is good material is to interrogate Vincent along the lines he mentioned then convert the interview into evidence to portray the Kenyan as a thankless animal who needs to go to jail because even after being rescued by the kind Swedish woman, he went back to try and assault her, raped her and even risked infecting her with HIV.

KILLING OSEWE WILL NOT KILL THE TRUTH
Information is power. When the Kenyan returned from Kenya around October last year, we have information that he fell very sick then went to hospital. The Swedish Doctors then decided to test him for HIV among other tropical diseases like malaria and what have you. He later tested positive before he split with his ex in January.

The likes of Vincent should not be fighting KSB, the only source of credible information at critical points in time. They should be asking how the Kenyan could have returned from Kenya to test HIV positive upon his arrival from Kenya because HIV is known to have an incubation period of as long as six months. We are not saying that he might not have contracted the virus during his Kenyan trip but asking a hypothetical question.

If the Kenyan had taken up another lady as Vincent says, does he understand why some of our ladies are in psychological crisis following news about the HIV connection which supposedly, was a KSB creation. Has this lady tested herself? Assuming that he contracted the virus before leaving for Kenya (so far, there is no shred of evidence to suggest that he contracted the virus in our dear country Kenya), who gave it to him before he left? Is it important for ladies who came into contact with him before and after he came from Kenya that he is positive?

Have these ladies been sleeping with other contacts and is it possible that there is “a ring of HIV transmission” that is still unknown? Up to what level could these transmissions go and what should Kenyans do? These are the issues the community should be addressing, not attacking the Messenger.

There is a “life and death” element on the whole issue which might run into several chains and the faster Kenyans accepted and appreciated the information, the faster potential victims will be able to move to put a break to what may turn out to be a chain of “silent infections” that may continue for ever. Vincent should know what I am talking about because he is in a position to “know many links down the line”.

KSB is taking the advantage of responding to Vincent while at the same time announcing that the “HIV connection” is not the product of Osewe’s fertile imagination because real ladies have called KSB to inquire the validity of the report so that they can decide on what to do next. Others have thanked KSB for giving them something to think about.

I am not Jesus Christ. But is it a surprise that Jesus Christ was crucified by the very same people he came to save? Stung by a factual report at KSB, Mr. Clay Onyango has even bayed for my blood and pondered my physical elimination from the surface of the earth instead of addressing the issues that were raised. Will killing Osewe also kill the truth that is known to set men and women free?

“The truth never dies” and those who have chosen to speak it will continue to do so in every generation long after Osewe is gone. Where is the evidence that the KSB story was fabricated? Back to Vinni and company.

Hearing Of Kenyan’s Case Pushed Forward

The case of a Kenyan national facing charges of rape, taking away the freedom of a Swedish woman and having unprotected sex with the woman will not be heard on Friday 2nd October as had been planned because the charge sheet is not yet ready.

A Court official at Solna told KSB that the mentioning of the case has been pushed to 16th November, time when the Kenyan will continue to remain in custody. KSB has been in touch with the Court since the blog site confirmed rumours that the Kenyan was being held in custody.

During the Summer, a Kenyan national was jailed for three years for allegedly infecting a Swedish woman with HIV although he was found “Not guilty” of raping two other Swedish women.

Kenyan Travel Agent Accused Of Defrauding Client 3.000 Kr

Mrs Lillian Olin, a Kenyan national, has claimed that Mr. Clay Onyango, a Kenyan Travel Agent based at Odenplan in Stockholm, has defrauded her of 3.000 kr after issuing a defective ticket to her husband causing them to get stranded in Kenya during a holiday trip.

The Agent gave them a ticket and informed them that the ticket was valid for two months. When their holiday was over, they went to KLM to confirm the ticket only to be told that the ticket was valid for only eight days and that it had expired. “I was very disappointed because all my travel plans were messed up”, she said.

They were told that to extend the ticket, they needed to pay an extra 3.000 kr. They didn’t have money so Olin contacted her daughter in Stockholm who sent her cash so that she could sort out the bill because Clay refused to take responsibility. It took the couple a whole week to sort out the problem and travel back to Sweden.

When she returned to Sweden, she contacted Clay for a refund of her 3000 kr but the agent refused to pay. She went to his office but could not trace him. Her phone calls also went unanswered. Not knowing what to do, she wrote a letter to Clay which has never been replied.

She said that she was disappointed because she bought the ticket from Clay as a way of promoting Kenyan businessmen.

When contacted for comment, Clay admitted that it is true that the ticket had a problem but added that a new one was fixed.

“Yes. There was a mistake with the issuing Agent and we fixed a new ticket. The date was wrong”, he said.

Clay said that the amount he owes Olin is 3.000 Kenyan shillings (300 kr) and not 3.000 kr. He said that Olin was claiming for transport from some place somewhere in Kenya and phone bills.

“The compensation should be 3.000 shillings and I told her to write a claim. I have not received any. Tell her to get in touch with the receipts”, he said. He added that it was not true that he had disappeared.

Olin has countered that if the amount was 300 kr, that should be a small amount which a responsible Agent should have been able to pay to avoid negative talk about his Agency after admitting a mistake. She said that she could not have been wasting a lot of time chasing 300 kr and warned Kenyans to be careful.

Update On Naomi Fund: 15.000 kr Raised In Total

After the final count, Naomi Wambui, a Kenyan who held a fund raising to finance an impending eye operation, has told KSB that a total of 15.000 kr was raised by Kenyans, friends and well wishers. She said that staff at the Kenyan embassy in Stockholm sent a total of 2,000 kr being a private contribution from sympathetic Embassy staff.

She once again thanked everybody who attended the fund raising and hoped that God would bless them. She said that she will be going for initial medical tests today Thursday in preparation for the operation. “I am now confident that I will go through the operation”, she said, adding that “Glory be to the all mighty”.
