Uproar Over Embassy’s Kenyatta Day Invitations

purity nzoro, not invited

A general uproar has erupted in Stockholm over a selective invitation of Kenyans to this year’s Kenyatta day reception scheduled for Saturday 20th October. Serious concerns have been raised by Kenyans who have contacted KSB to charge that the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia is discriminating against certain members of the community using the Kenyatta day invitations.

According to Pastor Beatrice Kamau who has not been invited together with numerous members of her congregation, the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia Mrs Purity Muhindi is playing a hopeless game of divide and rule using the Kenyatta day invitations.

“Each and every action of the Ambassador provokes a negative reaction and Kenyans should petition the government to recall Ambassador Purity because she has become a major source of headache to Kenyans in Scandinavia”, Pastor Beatrice told KSB.

She said that Jamhuri is a National day and that all Kenyans should have been invited to the reception irrespective of their stations in life.

Last week, letters were sent to “strategic Kenyans” inviting them to the function and now, Kenyans who were left out are fighting back.

Kenyans like Mr. Mark Gaya, former Chairperson of Kenya United Welfare Association (KUWA) has not been invited. At a well attended fund raising Party that was hosted by Beryl Otumba last Saturday, a KISS agent (Ksb Intelligence Secret Services) who was posted at the function reported that several Kenyans complained that they had not been invited. Kenyans reportedly took turns to attack the Ambassador as they exchanged snippets of conversations, accusing her of intolerance, discrimination and open bias.

Joseph Munene aka Nzoro, a Kesofo committee member and founding member of the children’s organization, M.A.D (Making A Difference) has also not been invited. Some militant Kenyans have said that they will gate-crash at the reception, arguing that the Ambassador has no right to decide who attends and who doesn’t attend the Kenyatta day reception.

They urged an Executive committee member of the Kenya Social Forum (Kesofo) who was present at the Beryl function on a private capacity to take up the matter with the organization’s Committee with a view to making the grievances of Wakenya known to the Embassy.

An Official at the Embassy who came into contact with another KISS agent but who did not want to be quoted, said that the Embassy tried to invite Kenyans who made noise last year during the Jamhuri Day reception thinking that by inviting them, the issue of invitations would not be raised in the case of Kenyatta day.

During that period, members of ODM-Scandinavia (former ODM-KS) stormed the Jamhuri reception at a Stockholm Hotel and walked in without problems.

A cross section of ODMS members who were interviewed said that they had been invited although there are others who said that they were not interested in Jamhuri day because the day no longer carries any meaningful significance to Kenya’s history.

The invitations, although an innocent gesture by the embattled Ambassador Purity, is likely to be highly politicized in an already charged atmosphere that has been very hostile to Purity.

Current attacks directed at the Embassy comes barely a week after the Mission faced scathing attacks following the delay of the Passport of Mrs Anna Okoth, a Kenyan national, who had to open a struggle before the Kenyan government could issue her with her travel document.

Anna’s beef was that the Embassy had failed in following up her Passport application forcing her to open a struggle which was characterized by virulent attacks on President Mwai Kibaki, the Kenyan Ambassador and the Kenyan government. She collected her Passport from the Embassy last Monday.

Ailing Kenyan Woman Appeals For Financial Help

naomiNaomi Wambui, a Kenyan woman resident in Stockholm, has appealed to Kenyans, friends and well-wishers to assist her raise 20.000 Swedish crowns towards an impending eye operation at St   Erik Eye Hospital in Stockholm.

Speaking to KSB, Naomi said that she had just left hospital after being admitted for one week, time when Doctors discovered that she had an acute complication with her ailment. She was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Now, Naomi needs to undergo two eye operations as part of her on-going treatment of a series of deadly diseases she suffers from. According to Sven Sahlin, the Managing Director of the Eye Hospital at St Erik, Naomi is suffering from Thyeoide eye disease with proptosis and optic nerve compression, a condition that needs surgery which, Sahlin says, will cost 11.000 kr.

Last year, Naomi underwent an eye surgery for “Orbital decompression” but unfortunately, some fat prolaps remained in the upper eye lids which now needs to be removed. She also needs an “upper eye lid retraction” which also requires surgery.

Sven Sahlin says that both operations combined will cost 20.000 kr. To address the problem, Naomi has called a fund raising at her sister Janet’s residence on Saturday October 27th 2007 from 14.00 hrs.

Naomi is seeking assistance because her Permanent Residence Permit (PUT) has not yet been processed by the Swedish Immigration authorities and under the circumstances, she has to foot the bill of her treatment. She has, in the past, held fund raisings at her sister’s residence to sort out her hospital bills, the last one having been weeks before she underwent her first eye operation. She has also been operated on in the heart.

“My PUT is still pending at the immigration Office and I am therefore appealing to all my Kenyan brothers and sisters together with people of good will to help me undergo this urgent operation”, she said in a Statement to KSB.

“I am on medication day and night and would like to take this opportunity to thank you Kenyans for the support, kind assistance, your understanding, your consideration, words of encouragement and above all, your prayers. May God bless you and keep you”, she said.

The fund raising will be held at Spannarpsgränd 9 NB at Åstebergjorden. From Liljeholmen take Bus number 134 and take off at Terassen Bust stop. Further info: 08-7228201; 0704016395 (Janet); 0737891515 (Naomi).

Congrants To Mr & Mrs Laban Mberi For Their New Baby

KSB takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Laban Mberi and his dear wife Mrs Josephine Kirigo Mberi on the occasion of the birth of their son Ng’ang’a Mberi who arrived in the planet on Thursday this week.

Ng’ang’a weighed 3.5 kg at the time of his birth and according to Bwana Mberi who spoke to KSB, both the son and the mother are doing well and are expected to be discharged from hospital soon.

We wish the Mberi family well during this sweet moment and hope that other Kenyan couples will follow in their brilliant example in the spirit of increasing the population of Wakenya in Stockholm. Ng’ang’a is the third born child of the Mberis who are now blessed with two sons and one daughter.

With the birth of their third born, the Mberis have now entered the bracket of Kenya-Stockholm “PhD holders” in the Department of “Kenya-Stockholm Baby making”.

For your update, one child is a “Degree” and at two kids, you are at your “Masters” level. Three is a “PhD” and when you go beyond three then you are a “Researcher” in the field of children.

For example, you could be interested in understanding the “Development of child psychology”, “The ups and downs of child up-bringing”, “The metamorphosis of children: From child birth to adolescence” etc.

To undertake this kind of Research, you might need some kids and the Kenya-Stockholm Parent’s Committee (KESTPACO) believe that you need at least four kids to qualify for a “Research Project”.

In writing their “thesis” in another “Male language” (two boys), the Mberis seem to have specialized in male children. We warmly welcome the new Ng’ang’a into the world and wish the Mberis the best of luck with family life.

Lessons From Anna’s Struggle For A Kenyan Passport

Mrs Anna Okoth, a Kenyan citizen, picked up her Passport from the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm on Monday October 8th after a sweet victory which saw the Public Relations Officer in Nairobi at the Department of Immigration Mrs Mary Musasia apologise to her in writing for the long delay. This was a courageous act by Musasia who acknowledged that there had been a problem with the processing of the Passport. The apology amounted to the Department taking responsibility.

From the outcome of the struggle which began in earnest with a Petition addressed to the Kenyan government, it is clear that struggle pays and that the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm is absolutely powerless when it comes to following up a delayed Passport. If Anna had continued to listen to unenlightened advice from the Kenyan Embassy, she could still be “waiting for the next diplomatic bag”.

The failure of the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia H.E Purity Muhindi to intervene during the whole process should permanently remind Kenyans in Stockholm that we have a toothless Ambassador and that the best option under the circumstances is to wait for a change of government in December so that our non-performing Lady Ambassador can hopefully be sent packing.

The quick result of the Anna struggle is a demonstration that something can always be done about non performing bureaucrats be they in Nairobi or in Stockholm. The anti-Kibaki propaganda linked to the petty Passport issue was sending frissons of fear within key Institutions of government especially the Department of Immigration and something had to be done. A Passport that has been held for six months was issued and sent to Stockholm within a span of four days. This was not a miracle out of some closed door prayer meeting. It was the result of pure strategic pressure.

Pro-Kibaki bozos running gutter-blogs tried to counter that the government of the Othaya-bound Septuagenarian and limping President  should not be held responsible for the Passport delay while others in the Kibaki campaign bandwagon advised that Anna should travel to Kenya and visit the Department of Immigration to get her Passport. Heavenly smoke!

When roads fall into total disrepair and become impassable giving MPs excuses to waste public funds on fuel-guzzling four wheel drives, you don’t begin by blaming the Ministry of Roads. Corruption of the Anglo-leasing type cannot be blamed on the Ministry of Finance and in the same token, rampant tribalism in the appointment of public servants cannot be blamed on the Ministry of Culture and Social services. Chronic lack of medicine in hospitals cannot be blamed on the Ministry of Health and so on. The government must take responsibility.

DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS ARE UNALIENABLE
If there is a six-month delay of a Passport that was supposed to be issued in six weeks and both the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm and the Department of Immigration in Nairobi cannot intervene or give explanations despite repeated contacts, then the next stop is the government.

The line of reasoning of neophytes willing to bet their kidneys for Kibaki’s re-election reeks of unrestrainable political myopia. A key lesson here is that there are Kenyans whose political consciousness have not developed despite an International political exposure and it is a shame that the only reason why they were defending Kibaki from attacks on the Passport issue is because Kenya has a Kikuyu President.

Then, there are others who claimed that the language of the Petition “was too militant” and that it should have been “toned down a little”. If you are going to war, you pick your best weapons which will deliver victory. There was a lot of diplomacy during the initial stages of inquiry but as the Kenyan Ambassador maintained a calculated deafness over the issue and the Immigration Department became even more non committal, it could have been fool-hardy to expect the victim to begin licking the boots of Embassy staff in the name of diplomacy. Fire had to be opened using “State of the art” artillery.

If you ask KSB Commanders, our armoury is full and we need to start an “Iraqi-like war” to test some weapons and create room for new ones. Should there be a “regime change” at one on the “Middle Eastern blogs” habouring anti-KSB cyber terrorists?

An old Kibaki lap-dog even called KSB from his drinking hole at Vasa to say that “The Passport will never be issued” because the applicant had “abused Kibaki”. That was Friday last week and as he rumbled on, little did he know that the Passport was already in one of the drawers at the Kenyan Embassy awaiting collection on Monday.

The geezer, who fled to exile in Sweden in the 80s, used to be very progressive, ideologically radical and revolutionary until Kibaki took power. As the years grinded on, he began to go down the road of political degeneration while his outbursts became even more reactionary. Today, he is one of the most vicious tribalists who believe that Raila should not lead Kenya because he is “not cut”. Are there any lessons to learn from the demeanour of this notorious Kikuyu chauvinist on the Passport issue?

Kenyans at home and abroad must never accept that the government of the day sits on their hard won rights and freedoms without protest. Whether it is President Mwai Emilio Kibaki or President Raila Amollo Odinga, democratic rights are unalienable and regardless of who is in power, the tempo of struggle should not change. The Anna Passport battle was won and although it was a little victory, it should serve as an example to Wakenya and a warning to any future government. Don’t just sit there when the government is trampling on your rights with impunity. Get into struggle!

Invitation To “Beryls Hope” Fund Raising Extravaganza

If you are looking for a remunerative get-together of Kenyans and friends this Saturday week-end, then look no further than Årsta Folketshus where the East is scheduled to meet its Western counterpart in a unique music and dance concert dedicated to a truly altruistic Project started by a beautiful Kenyan lady who wants to do something concrete for her country Kenya.

The “Beryls Hope” is not just hope in the conventional sense. It is a Home for orphaned Kenyan children located in Siaya district and started by non other than our Beryl Otumba, the mother of the uniquely named little girl – Priah Kendell.

On Saturday, 13th October between 16.30 and 2.00, Årstafolketshus at Årsta Torg (buss 168 från Gullmarsplan) will be packed with enticing entertainment of the music and concert type made in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Sweden to help raise Kwachas (cash) which will go towards uplifting the lives of destitute children in Siaya who have found a home at Beryls Hope. It is not an exaggeration to posit that this kind of moxie is rare within members of our community in Sweden.

In other words, Beryls Hope is the latest addition to two other homes set up by Kenyans to help orphans in our rich country, looted and plundered by corrupt and greedy politicians to an extent that private individuals have to intervene “to save the destitute children”.

The Phylis Memorial Home in Kenya being managed by Jacinter Njoroge together with the Anna Lindh Children’s Home set up by our outspoken Pastor Beatrice Kamau are Institutions that sincerely deserve support. Beryl has entered the fray with Beryls Hope and what she needs now is support.

The Beryls Hope extravaganza on Saturday will definitely be a good opportunity to meet the brain-box behind the initiative and to entertain yourself while you know that the proceeds are not going to further inflate some fat cat but to feed children whose only hope could be external input. Is there any other better way of congratulating Beryl than attending this function whose noble intentions are obvious?

The Saturday “Beryls Hope outing” is not just about dance, food, drinks, entertainment, seduction and what have you. Per Karlsson, the Country Program Co-ordinator, Department of Africa at the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) will give a key speech about poverty, Development situations and Human and Children’s rights. Per has been working with SIDA in Kenya for more than five years. He is a well known personality within the Kenya-Stockholm elite. I met him last week at a private function but he never told me that he is one of the key speakers at the Berys Hope beat – no qualms!

Another key speaker slated to set the audience thinking is Simon Mande who works with the International Red Cross and who is in charge of Youth for Human Rights in Sweden. Mande will share the day’s theme on poverty with Per Karlsson.

The talk session will be unique because it will elevate the function from a “fund-raising” party kinda retreat to an intellectual and thought-provoking past time on a Saturday evening – good for a break.

COME WATCH THE YOUNG NYMPHETS FROM RWANDA
One interesting dimension of the Beryls Hope action is that among all political Parties in Sweden, only the Social Democratic Party has not been left behind and Kent Härstdt, an MP, is expected to provoke the audience with a speech based on the theme of the evening.

Beryl must have been working 24/7 to put this event together, given the shortage of time in Sweden. Sometimes I run out of time to bang a titillating story at KSB but do I say?

Once the “Talk-show” is over, you will just have to relax because that is the time when the real action will begin and guess which artists are on the line-up?

FEJM Scenskolan Music Group in Alby has prime time when action begins. You might or might not have come into contact with them but we won’t elaborate. You have to come and see. After FEJM, the prodigious Jambo Traditional Dance Group from Kenya will bounce on stage to give revellers a run for their money.

By the way, entrance for all the stuff will be a paltry 100 kr and that includes exclusive African delicacies where Ugali (or ugalai if you are more advanced) is expected to combine with Nyama choma, Kachumbari and other known components to enable the fun lovers in attendance to catch up with that elusive African menu. Don’t worry if you have some West African friends. We have intelligence that Fufu will be near by.

Apart from Jambo, the “Pearl Traditional Dancers” from Uganda will show how it is done in the land of the Baganda before the audience are “virtually” flown to Rwanda where the “Rwandese Traditional Dancers” will get active on the floor to do their thing.

When it comes to organized “Lady dancing” of the “Traditional type”, Kenyan ladies have been lagging behind for reasons that needs to ne investigated. Are our Kenyan ladies spending more time gossiping on the phone or have they just become too heavy to dance? Are they leaderless or are they into too much “Swallowship” of the Nonini type? It would be interesting to see them shake a boob, at least once in a while. The arena has been very dry.

The Rwandese in Stockholm have a habit of spilling extremely beautiful and young nymphets to shake their rumps on the floor and when Clay last engaged them during his stand-out wedding in August 2005, established Kenyan bachelors were seen consulting sub-rosa, probably thinking that they could have a go at the Madonnas since Rwanda is now part of East Africa. He he he…

Apart from the Rwandese, a dance duo known as “Jazz and Amir Hip-Hop” will try to capture the attention of the audience before giving room to “Mike Wise” a young Rap artist to show what he has been up to lately.

“Solder Productions”, a Reggae and Dancehall group are also on the line-up and if you thought you were done, an African Fashion Show will be unleashed to bring the latest in the African-Stockholm fashion industry.

After all is said and done, people will begin to get down and this is now the delicate part. It will not be another “Wazee Hukumbula Party” where people wriggle to old tunes. The youth have been missing the action and since Beryl will also be celebrating her 30th birthday, nothing can be predicted yet at KSB.

Get ready because the Entertainment bells have been sounded. For further information, send mail to: beryl@beryshope.org or visit the Project’s website at: http://www.berylshope.org. You can also call Beryl at: 0739380144,0736185118.

Controversial Genge Artist Nonini Coming To Stockholm

nonini poster

Controversial Kenyan Genge Hip Hop Artist Nonini will be in Stockholm to entertain Wakenya at Vällingby on Saturday 27th October – courtesy of the newly formed Leta Mleto Entertainment group. The treat will be the third of its kind among Wakenya following entertainment some times back by Mr. Nice and Nazizi, all of whom have a fun base in Stockholm.

Nonini is known for explicit sexual lyrics which have, at times, ruffled the feathers of parents in Kenya who believe that Nonini’s music “spoils children’s morals”.

His most controversial songs are “Manzi wa Nairobi” and “We Kamu”. In Manzi wa Nairobi, the Rapper celebrates the prowess of the “Nairobi girl” and wonders if he could manage the situation if the beef wrapped in the tight jeans is suddenly unwrapped.

In another suggestive line, he wonders whether the tight jeans will prevent him from “getting there”. The video of the song is even more graphic with young little girls shaking their bums liberally as Nonini unleashes his lyrics.

In “We Kamu”, Nonini encourages his male listeners to telephone their girlfriends to come home then he says that the lady will have to strip off her pants as soon as she arrives at the door. In the video of the song, it is Nonini’s trouser that is stripped down at the door-way by a lady as soon as the Artist opens the door for her to come in.

The interpretation here could be diverse although one could be led to think that the lady pulls down the trouser because she understands that the mission of the day is connected to pant-stripping.

In another scene of the “We Kamu” video, a lady nestling on Nonini’s lap is seen pulling down the front zip of her “shorter than short” jeans skirt, almost exposing the shrub of hair leading to her shrine before the scene is cut off abruptly, just on time before the colour of her pants are exposed.

Nonini then irritates parents even further by sending greetings to “Mama na Baba” (Mother and Father) of a young little lassie already lying expectantly on his bed getting ready for whatever is in your head! He had earlier in the song said that the meat will be eaten Kavu Kavu (could mean without condoms or anything depending on how you think) and advised the lady to “come alone” because he is not interested in her friends.

Parents of young girls who are exposed to Noni’s music went wild in Kenya, something that pleased the Artist because this was evidence that “people are listening” to his music otherwise why should there be an uproar?

Nonini will be performing at “Trappan” located at vällingby centrum from 22 hrs until “late”. The scene will be opened by Wawesh based in Göteborg and entrance is 200 kr. Mark your Calender!

Kenyan Accuses Colleague Of Seeking to Destroy His Family

It’s been some time since Hot Kenya-Stockholm gossip came by. A Kenyan national resident in Stockholm has accused a fellow Kenyan of trying to destroy his family through personal and negative propaganda, smear campaign and dirty talk about his character.

The accuser, who is holding a top position in a Sweden-based political Party, said that his old time friend and political Comrade has now become an enemy number one seeking to destroy him both politically and personally for reasons he does not understand.

“This guy travelled all the way to Kenya and recruited three wealthy Kenyans to seduce my wife but he failed”, the Kenyan told KSB. When pressed to elaborate, he said that the guy tricked him into releasing his wife’s telephone number in Kenya, gave her an appointment in Kenya during his last trip there and then tried to woo her with three wealthy Kenyans to snatch her but he failed.

“My wife is soon joining me here in Sweden and she is going to spill the beans”, he told KSB. The story was one of the juiciest since the tale of the “Stockholm burglar” so KSB pressed even further for the minute and spicy details.

He said that his enemy has been trying to engineer the down-fall of his marital relationship back in Kenya thereby complicating his plans to organize so that his wife and two children can join him in Sweden.

“I want my friends to know about this because the matter has reached a stage where I cannot hide it any longer”, he said.

The latest is that the enemy has called the Department of Immigration in Sweden and told the Swedish authorities that the Kenyan’s two children are not his and that they were fathered by the guy’s neighbour when the guy was away politicking in Sweden.

Because of this accusation, the guy was summoned by Immigration authorities recently and told to undergo a DNA test to ascertain that the two babies were actually made by him.

“I am waiting for DNA results anytime and I know it will be positive because I know I am the father of the two kids”, he said.

The story did not end there. The Kenyan in question, who sounded very irritated, said that at a house Party in Vällingby, his enemy accused him in front of Wakenya that he has been moving with the enemy’s wife and that he is even responsible for fathering one of the Kids of the enemy.

“He said when everybody was listening that he will bring the kid on Monday but this Monday has never come”, the Kenyan told KSB as our reporter encouraged him to “Toboa” (reveal).

He said that the enemy has actually become good friends with the real guy moving with his wife because the enemy has accepted the relationship.

“He has been telling my wife that I am a womanizer but my wife has stuck with me”, he said.

“We can disagree politically but it is another thing to get into the affairs of my family”, he said.

Pastor Beatrice Praises Charity Ngilu On Her Move To ODM

Pastor Neatrice Kamau has praised the move by Mrs Charity Ngilu’s defection to ODM. Speaking to KSB, the Pastor said that Kenya needs women like Ngilu who was courageous enough to tell President Kibaki in the face that his government had failed the people of Kenya after elections.

“Ngilu has been bold enough to tell Kebaki to stop defending thieves in the government”, the Pastor told KSB.

The Pastor said that by joining ODM, Ngilu had made the right move because the government of Kibaki was a “sinking ship”.

“Kenyans have been struggling against former President Daniel arap Moi for many years and the fact that Kibaki is now defending Moi means that the Kibaki government is committed to defending the interests of the rich in Kenya”, she said.

She said that Ngilu was courageous because she dumped the Kibaki government despite the risk of being sacked from her Cabinet position.

“The likes of Moi should not be left to discuss and talk politics in public because he failed Kenya during his 24 years in power”, Pastor Beatrice told KSB.

She said that instead of allowing Moi to try and confuse Kenyans with “divide and rule politics” meant to defend the interest of a few rich people who have plundered the Kenyan Nation, Moi should be taken into custody to answer questions behind bars.

“Kenyan Burglar” Will Not Be Named By KSB

A Kenyan who was allegedly caught red handed in the act in an apartment belonging to Jane Nyakairo will not be named by KSB. Following the publication of the story, many Wakenya have been itching to have the Kenyan named “as a matter of public concern”.

Some readers think that the burglar is a “National security threat” from the point of view of the “Kenyan nation in Stockholm” arguing that if there is a Kenyan who could have access to another Kenyan’s house keys and even organize to sneak into the house, then the identity of such a Kenyan should be made public so that “people can be careful”. Under certain circumstances, we do not name names at KSB and this position has been stated on several occasions.

There appears to be a misunderstanding among some Kenyans to the effect that KSB promised to “name” the burglar in 24 hrs after breaking the news. This is not correct. If you go back to our breaking news item, we were pursuing the story and we promised to “bring it to readers” within a period of 24 hrs, not to name the burglar. The issue of naming the suspect could not have arisen because it would amount to breaking Swedish Press laws.

The burglar was reported to police who told KSB that they had opened an investigation into the case. Depending on what the police can establish, the case will then be forwarded to the Prosecutor if the police believe that there is enough evidence to prosecute. The final decision about taking the matter to court however rests with the Prosecutor. Once the court process begins, KSB can then begin to bring updates to readers on the basis of Court proceedings.

Another issues is that KSB Intelligence agents responsible for bringing out scandals to readers cannot be named either at the Blog or on phone so don’t call Headquarters asking for the identity of whoever brought that story about your secret excursions with girls at the boat to Finland line when you are supposed to be happily married and looking after your kids.

Breaking News: Mrs Anna Okoth’s Passport Issued As Kibaki Government Bows To International Pressure

The government of President Mwai Kibaki has given in to International pressure and issued a Kenyan Passport to Mrs Anna Okoth who has been waiting for the document for the last six months.

In an email addressed to Mrs Okoth, Mary Musasia, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Department of Immigration, apologized to Mrs Okoth for the long delay. She also acknowledged receipt of the Petition that has been circulating in the Internet and which was written by Mrs Okoth as part of her struggle for a Kenyan Passport.

“This is to acknowledge your email (Petition) and to let you know that your Passport left Nairobi yesterday for Sweden. Please, check with our Immigration attaché Ms Wako tomorrow or wait for her to contact you”, wrote Mrs Musasia. “Kindly accept our most sincere apologies for the delay”, she added.

Mrs Okoth was contacted today after 17.12 hrs (Swedish time) by Mr. George Kinyua, the First secretary at the Kenyan Embassy, who said that she can collect her Passport from the Mission on Monday next week.

Speaking to KSB, Mrs Okoth said that she was relieved and happy that the government had responded to her struggle and issued the Passport.

She regretted that she had to struggle for the document before it could be issued and hoped that other Kenyans will not have to go through the same process in the future.

Earlier in the day, an Immigration Officer in Nairobi who spoke to KSB in a follow-up phone call said that the Anna Passport issue had precipitated a crisis at the Department, not because of the delay but because of the intensive anti-Kibaki propaganda it was generating both inside and outside Kenya, propaganda that, he said, had found its way in sections of the Kenyan media.

Mrs Okoth thanked everyone who supported her during her struggle including everybody who signed her Petition. She also thanked KSB for the leading role the blog site has played since the struggle for her Passport began a few days ago. Further information and analysis on the issue will be published at KSB later.

“Anna’s Passport Saga A Shame To Kibaki Government” – ODM-Scandinavia

mrs opwapo

ODM-Scandinavia has noted with deep concern the predicament facing Mrs Anna Okoth on the question of her Passport which the Kenyan government has failed to deliver seven months after the application was submitted through the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm.

The Passport saga is a big shame to the Kibaki government because it is an indication of failure even at the   lowest level of government. The inability of the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia to offer explanations as to why Mrs Okoth cannot get her Passport is even more disturbing because as the head of the Mission in Stockholm where the old Passport was submitted, it is her responsibility to follow up the matter at the highest level of government especially if it is clear that the delay in issuing the Passport is having a negative impact on the image of the Kenyan government.

From the point of view of ODM-Scandinavia, the Ambassador should have contacted the Principle Immigration Officer directly for an explanation and if no action was fourth-coming, she ought to have contacted the Office of the Vice President under which the Immigration Department falls. It has to be accepted that the long period the application has taken makes the case unique, given that the official waiting time is six weeks.

The negative publicity being generated against the Kibaki government by the Anna Passport saga is not proportional to the problem and since the Ambassador has the ear of the President, she ought to have utilized key government contacts in Kenya to alert the regime that the Anna Passport issue needs to be sorted out because of the devastating consequences within the framework of Public Relations.

Whether implicitly or explicitly, the Ambassador, through her lackadaisical attitude towards the issue, is actively abetting in the further destruction of the already battered image of the Kibaki government, a horrendous mistake in an election year.

While ODM-Scandinavia puts the blame on the door steps of the Ambassador Mrs Purity Muhindi, our Party believes that the Anna Passport issue is a mirror reflection of the calamitous failure of both the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm and the Kibaki government back home.

We congratulate Mrs Okoth for having come out publicly to demand, unequivocally, her Passport and to assert her right to the document as a Kenyan citizen. We admire her militancy and strong resolve to struggle if that is what it takes to get her Passport. We believe that there are Kenyans who continue to suffer in silence thinking that “nothing can be done”.

ODM-Scandinavia believes that no Kenyan should go through what Mrs Okoth is currently going through just to get that document called a Kenyan Passport because there are more important issues that deserve more time and attention.

It is for this reason that we urge Kenyans looking for real political changes in our country to vote out the Kibaki government come the next election. Denial of Passports to Kenyan citizens are tactics that should have died with the defeat of the government of former dictator Daniel arap Moi.

Now that this soap opera is replaying itself in Stockholm in 2007, it is time for Kenyans at home and abroad to understand that the Kibaki government is unfit to govern and that President Kibaki should return to Othaya to retire after the December elections.

ODM-S adds its voice to calls that Mrs Okoth be issued with a Kenyan Passport without delay. The Party branch will continue to follow this matter very closely as we contemplate our next action.

We agree with Anna – that a delegation of concerned Kenyans should be sent to the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm as soon as possible to meet with the Kenyan Ambassador and to establish why the Kibaki government is trying to roll back the democratic gains of the past four decades, gains that were paid for with life and blood. We say “Issue Mrs Anna Okoth with a Kenyan Passport now!”

“Give Mrs Anna Okoth Her Passport”, Says Njoro

It is the duty of every government on earth to protect and honour the rights of it’s citizens. It’s my believe that President Kibaki is not responsible for the delay of Mrs Ann Okoth’s passport but those responsible are causing an unnecessary embarrassment to the President, the government and the nation of Kenya.

The Kenya Embassy in Stockholm has been of great assistance to me and many Kenyans in Sweden but this situation is likely to give it a bad image here and outside. Why can’t this be avoided?

I appeal to who ever is responsible to act now, do your job and issue the passport or at least issue a statement as to why this situation is unfolding.

This is a very important time for the government to demonstrate it’s willingness to serve the people, and it’s capability to lead Kenya another term. Am a supporter of the good job president Kibaki is doing and I wish that this case will not be allowed to discredit his efforts.

Njoro, A Concerned Kenyan
