On Saturday 30th June, Kenyans and friends of Pastor Betarice Kamau are gathering for the wedding ceremony between Mr. Olle Lundgren and the Kenyan Pastor. The event takes place at St Klara Church from 14.00 followed by a reception at Skapnäck Church. The wedding is public because through various channels including KSB, everybody has been invited.
According to Pastor Beatrice, she has invited everybody through word of mouth, telephone contacts, email, cards, sms and through the Internet. The Pastor told KSB that she has been unable to reach every Kenyan personally and stressed that whoever knows about the wedding should feel welcome.
“We are Africans and you don’t have to get a personal email, an SMS or a card to feel that you are welcome”, she told KSB. She said that since she doesn’t have the contacts of every Kenyan in Stockholm, Wananchi should be comfortable with the various channels available.
Planning for the wedding has been going on for more than two months and now, plans are entering into their final stages. It will be the fourth time a Kenyan is throwing a public wedding in Stockholm since the beginning of the century. Among Wakenya in Stockholm, the wedding will be the main event to watch over the week-end.
The pioneer of Kenya-Stockholm public weddings was Mr & Mrs. Laban Mberi whose wedding was followed by Mr & Mrs. Nashon Mbugua before Mr & Mrs. Clay Onyango took the deep plunge. Now, it’s Pastor Beatrice Kamau and only God knows who is next.
Wakenya have been tuning and relationships have constantly been changing but we will “wait and see”.
Of cause, other Kenyans have also been wedding but the unions have mainly been closed to the general public with tightly controlled invitations Swedish style!
You have been informed and by now, you must have marked your calendar. According to Pastor Beatrice, “Don’t say you were never invited”. KSB takes this opportunity to congratulate the bride and the groom and to wish them well on the special occasion of their wedding.
