Wakenya Facing A Busy Mid-Summer This Week-End
What has so far been confirmed is that there will be at least three parties, one Nyama choma and one live show. But Nyama comes first.
FITJASTRAND: A grill-feast will be taking place at Fitja Beach on Saturday 23rd June hosted by M.A.D, a Kenyan organization that mainly focuses on children and youth activities. The cost of eating Nyake has not yet been circulated. According to information posted by MAD leaders, the event starts at 14.00 hrs.
I was talking to one of the MAD founding members who was not very happy with a KSB article about a ”MAD children’s Party” and when I talk about “MAD leaders” here, I don’t know what will happen. The dilemma is how to refer to the organization without avoiding the connotation that comes with the MAD acronym. Anyway.
After filling up at Fitjastrand (or Fitja Beach if you like), Wakenya will have the opportunity to roll their beefs to Albyskolan where MAD will be hosting an all night Party. Entrance fee has not yet been circulated but it is expected to be 50-60 kr. It is the first time MAD is trying its hand on a Kenya Nyama choma. The group has hosted a couple of Parties at Albyskolan in the past together with children’s activities which have been very successful.
MÄRSTA: If you can’t make it to the MAD events on that Sato, you have the option of checking out what is happening in Märsta where a group of Africans mainly composed of Wakenya, Watizedi and Wazairwa are throwing a bash. The group behind the Party is called “Mason African”. The point of action is Norrbackaskolan and the address is Odensalavägen 1. You will need to take a bus (No 581 from Märsta station) in case you are not yet rolling on wheels then shuka at Norrbackaskolan from where you can then tip-toe to the venue just a few meters away.
A Nyama choma at the same venue has not been confirmed. The Night Party starts at 20.00 hrs and, just like the Alby Party, runs throughout the night so you can keep your body busy the whole night. DJ Jimmy and DJ Yunas will be spinning and, according to what they told KSB, music will focus on latest hits from Kenya, Tanzania and Congo. The crowd is expected to be very mixed. The group has also organized Parties at the same venue which have been well attended. There is a considerable presence of Africans (especially Wakenya) in Märsta and this factor is what has been driving Parties down theiya.
The pet peeve by Wakenya in Märsta has been that Norsborg and Alby are far-away venues and that an alternative Party center at Märsta is also just in order. From what KSB has established, the distance doesn’t really matter for Wakenya. What they want is good action especially on the music side. They will go anywhere if they are convinced about what to expect. Alternative DJs are good for competition in an industry that is still “under development” among Wakenya. At the moment, “Sound of Blackness” appears to be slightly ahead with heavy music gear and a good mastery of dance floor characteristics.
VUMBI LIVE!: In case you are into more live stuff, then you could as well book your day at Järva fältet (between Tensta and Rynkeby) for some live stuff. The center of attraction will be non other than the famous Kasule (popularly known as Vumbi) who will be playing live for a huge audience with his group – Makonde. Vumbi is one of the main artists who used to play at the former Star Light Club and he is well known by Party crazy Wakenya.
Speaking to KSB, Kasule said that he will mainly be focusing on East African music and that the event runs the whole day in open air. If you are keen on catching Makonde in action, the group will play from 14.00-15.00 hrs. Food will be available in plenty and it will also be a good out-door event kuzubaisha jamii just in case you are one of those planning to escape to Alby or Märsta to do it alone after a busy day with the clan. Our job is to bring it up and say where it happens otherwise it’s all yours for the chosing.
