Update On Oloo Presentation On Thursday 7th May
Is Another Kenya Possible? A Public Forum Featuring Onyango Oloo
Onyango Oloo, former political prisoner, social justice activist and current director of the Nairobi-based Sankara Centre for Social Movements is paying a short visit to the Kenyan communities in Norway and Sweden. KSB has made further contacts with Oloo to get details about his presentation.
In line with information already circulated, he will participate in a public forum on Thursday 7th May organized around the theme: “Is Another Kenya Possible?”
Onyango Oloo will give his take on the current insecurity, violence and conflicts around the country and address the contemporary political standoffs in the run up to this year’s elections. He will contribute an analysis on the state of Kenyan social movements and give his perspectives on the prospect for fundamental democratic transformation of Kenya.
His talk will be preceded by a video profile of SINPARE, a Kenyan underground hip hop group, and clips from the 7th edition of the World Social Forum held in Nairobi in January this year. Oloo was a member of the WSF 2007 Secretariat.
Thereafter, the rest of the evening will be devoted to what is expected to be a lively and dynamic free exchange of views during a question and answer plenary session.
The event will be held at Wananchi Pavilion (Högbersgatan 48 – Tube: Medborgaplatsen or Slussen) and starts at 19.00.

Onyango Oloo To Meet Wakenya At Wananchi Pavilion
Mr. Onyango Oloo, the Co-ordinator of the Kenya World Social Forum, will be in Sweden on Thursday 7th June. Kenyans and friends are invited to a meeting that will be addressed by Mr. Oloo at Wananchi Pavilion from 19.00 hrs the same day. The address of the venue is Högbergsgatan 48 (Tube: Slussen or Medborgaplatsen).
The topic of Mr. Oloo’s discussion will be: “Another Kenya Is Possible”. Mr. Oloo will also give a brief update on the situation in Kenya in the run up to the General elections and field questions from the audience. Mr. Oloo is a former Kenyan exile who was based in Canada prior to his return to Kenya to contribute in nation building.
As the Co-ordinator of the World Social Forum that took place in Kenya in January this year, Mr. Oloo has a lot of experience to share with people who are interested in the struggle for a better world.
Speaking to KSB, from Oslo, Mr. Oloo said that he hopes that the discussion with Wakenya in Stockholm will be good. “I have lots of things I would like to share with Kenyans in Stockholm although I do not want to pre-empt anything at the moment”, he said. Mr. Oloo is expected to leave Stockholm on Friday for other engagements.
Because of the abrupt nature of Mr. Oloo’s trip and a rather tight schedule, there has been very short time to organize the meeting and the “Task Force” that is dealing with the trip hopes that Wakenya will be in a position to understand.
