KESOFO Holds The Key Between Kenya Embassy and Wakenya

Last Friday, the newly elected committee of the Kenya Social Forum in Sweden (Kesofo) distributed responsibilities among itself. Susan Mukami, a student at Uppsala University since September last year, was appointed to head the Forum as the Chairperson while I was appointed to deputize her.

The appointment of Mukami was significant because it underlined the fact that Kesofo leadership is keen in ensuring that Kenyan ladies are given every opportunity to lead. The soft spoken Miss Mukami took over at a time when Winnie Njoki, a Kenyan lady, had just retired from the Committee due to family commitments. It will be interesting to see how Mukami adopts her soft-soft approach to steer the Committee.

Another new comer in the Committee is Mr. Dancan Munala who took over the position of Secretary. Munala is very practical in his approach to issues and this trait will, most likely, mix well with the down to earth tendency of his Assistant, Mr. Makan Macharia. The Kenyan has a deep concern for the welfare of Kenyan children, has lots of ideas on how to get things moving while he is also a good sportsman. It will be a matter of “wait and see” although things doesn’t look bad.

Talking about “being strict” in Kesofo Committee is the same as talking about Mr. Silas Njuguna, the new Treasurer. He is the guy who ensures that the last coin is accounted for and on time. His profile as an accomplished “Finance Minister” gave him no competition during the appointments. Mr. Njuguna was the outgoing Kesofo  Vice treasurer and so, he is not new in the game. When the Juliet committee was set up, Mr. Njuguna took over the treasury and delivered quite well. He is principled and ensures that the rules are always followed.

This is not strange. Mr. Njuguna has been handling millions of kronors at the International Red Cross where he apparently leant the tricks of handling cash. Since his days at the charity organization, the Kenyan has shown a close connection between his talents and cash handling. He seems to enjoy it as he pushes people to account for this and that with receipts on the table. With him at the helm, Kesofo members should rest assured that the Forum’s cash is safe. Just in passing, Mr. Njuguna is the gentleman who handled cash during last year’s Nyama choma Festival.

Strangely enough, Mr. Njuguna’s Assistant is a Musician – Mr. Moses Trubadur aka Mosgi Trubadur.  Mosse has been in organized life for a long time while he has also weathered many storms in Stockholm. It is good that the general philosophy of the new Committee is to help one another gain new experiences in different fields. Both Serah Nielssen and Mr. Daniel Mwaura settled for ordinary Committee members.  The whole process of appointments went on smoothly and this was positive because it showed that there are no power struggles in Kesofo.

The Committee has already decided that it will take contact with the Kenyan embassy in Stockholm to introduce the new Officials to Embassy staff in preparation for work between Kesofo and the Embassy. Collaboration between the Embassy and Kesofo might be the trickiest part especially if the Kenyan ambassador to Scandinavia Her Excellency Mrs Purity Muhindi does not change tact.

The relationship between Kenyans in Stockholm and the Embassy has been “strained” since Mrs Muhindi took over power with key accusation being that she is not interested in meeting Kenyans. Apart from Kesofo, there is no non-political Kenyan organization that is in a position to organize a function where the Ambassador can begin to make serious contacts with Wakenya. In fact, Kesofo holds the key to the door between the Embassy and Kenyans especially those in Stockholm.

The advantage Muhindi has with the Forum is that the leadership, starting from the new Chairlady, is not confrontational. Although Kesofo members could push the leadership into taking a “no nonsense” stand with Mrs Muhindi, much will depend on whether she really understands diplomacy because Kesofo is not, at the moment, thinking of ignoring the Embassy as an Institution. Once again, it will be a “wait and see situation”.

Juliet Kavinga Case: New Evidence Might Send Suspect To Jail

The Late Juliet Kavinga fileing past juliets casket juliet committee member speaks to fidelia staff member getting ready to go

A 34 year old Swedish national suspected to have killed Juliet Kavinga, a Kenyan national, may have been nailed. Police have come up with new evidence that indicates that the man was responsible for killing Juliet in May 2005. Juliet’s decomposed body was discovered floating on Lake Mälaren at Ekerö last July. When the case came to court, the suspect was freed due to lack of enough evidence.

In an Appeal case heard at a Swedish court at Handen on Friday April 13th, new evidence produced by police included a surveillance video footage that showed the Swedish man purchasing a tarpaulin at Claes Olsson Supermarket chain in Farsta. Tarpaulin is the material that was used to wrap Juliet’s body before it was dumped.

The video also shows the suspect and another unidentified man purchasing a rope that was used to tie up Juliet’s body. The two were also shown purchasing a trolley that was used to wheel Juliet from the point of murder to the dumping ground.

At the supermarket, the suspect is seen together with an accomplice  evaluating different colours of the tarpaulin before settling for a black one. They discarded a white tarpaulin.

During the trial last year, police produced evidence that showed that items that were used to “pack up Juliet” were purchased at Claes Olsson supermarket but the evidence was dismissed by the trial Judge who argued that there was no evidence to prove that the items were purchased by the suspect. For police investigators, the problem then was that whoever purchased the items used cash, and this made it impossible for the prosecution to link the purchases to an identifiable individual.

During the trial last year, the court was told that the suspect had borrowed 96.000 kr from Nordea bank. The theory of police at that time was that the suspect planned to leave the country. After the trial, police investigation revealed that the suspect had actually borrowed more than 96.000 kr after Juliet disappeared. At City bank, the suspect borrowed 97.000 kr, at City Resor 10.364 kr while he also borrowed another 52.000 kr from G-Capital.

When the suspect was initially interrogated as to where he obtained the huge amount of money, he said that he won a cash lottery from Svenska spel. A letter that was produced in Court from Svenska spel indicated that the suspect had not won a lottery managed by the company.

SEX AND CRIMINALITY SITES VISITTED
At the time the crime was allegedly committed, a scan of sites visited by the suspect revealed that he appeared to have been more interested in “sex related” and criminality sites. For example, he visited 12 adult sites, 5 bank sites while he also visited flashback.se, a site with crime related stories and which could educate a visitor on how to escape with crimes.

The site has a link showing how to obtain an illegal weapon via Post. The point the prosecution tried to make with web sites visited is that the suspect’s surfing habit after he borrowed a huge amount of cash did not point to a person who was about to go on holiday with his children as the suspect had alleged.

The importance of this piece of evidence is that it proved that the suspect lied to police while it also strengthened the prosecution’s theory that the suspect might have planned to leave the country. According to the suspect, he wanted to take his two children on vacation although the prosecution observed that the amount of money that was involved was colossal.

THE SUSPECT “WAS HELPED BY AN ACCOMPLICE”
The most incriminating evidence included phone contacts the suspect had with Juliet during her last moments on earth. At the trial last year, police could only produce the date and time the contacts were made. On Friday, police produced voice recordings of the phone calls making it possible for the Court to gather how the suspect lured Juliet from her flat in Skågos.

The powerful nature of the evidence was such that the suspect’s Lawyer requested that the tapes should not be played. As evidence mounted, the suspect began to respond to the prosecution’s questions with “I don’t know” answers while he also looked disorientated.

A training metal weighing 50 kg was used to sink Juliet’s body at Lake Mälaren. Responding to a question from the prosecutor, the suspect admitted that he had been training at a gym and that he could only lift 40 kg.

When Juliet’s body was discovered, the whole package weighed 81 kg. What this means is that to dump her body, one had to lift a weight of 131 kg. Since the suspect could only lift 40 kg, the prosecution took the position that the suspect must have been helped by an accomplice to carry Juliet’s body from the murder scene to the dumping site.

This theory was important because it strengthened a new piece of evidence that also came up. According to speed limit video cameras mounted on Swedish roads, the car that was hired by the suspect and which is suspected to have been used to dump her body had two occupants.

The video showed that a small lorry (registration number TXH 426) was at the high way in the direction of Ekerö where Juliet’s body was dumped and that it was the suspect who was behind the wheel. The lorry was returned on 15th May 2006 at 18.46 by the suspect ie two days after Juliet disappeared.  Judgment will be delivered on Monday April 16th.

A 34 year old Swedish national who allegedly killed Juliet Kavinga, a Kenyan national, may have been nailed. In an Appeal case heard today at Handen Appeals court in Stockholm, Police came up with new and sensetional evidence that indicates that the man may have been responsible for killing Juliet. KSB workers are processing the story and it will be banged as soon as it becomes available. In Brief: Kenyan Woman Admitted To Swedish Rehab

A Kenyan woman has been admitted to a Swedish rehabilitation center after a diagnosis check returned serious “addiction to gambling”. According to a source, the woman has been gambling for some time and is said to have gambled away cash totaling to about Ksh 150.000.

A Source told KSB that just before her admission, the woman was permanently broke while she looked frustrated and resigned, prompting the Swedish authorities to admit her at a rehab center. The source added that the woman accepted treatment voluntarily. It could not be immediately established if the woman’s monthly bills were affected by her addiction. KSB wishes her quick recovery.

Another Kenyan was recently admitted at Huddinge hospital suffering from “Internet addiction”. The Kenyan had been surfing for long hours per day thereby forgetting basic daily routines.

ODM-K Scandinavia Has Done Us Proud

Mr. Editor, I am not a member of ODM-K Scandinavia but I must say that the Party has done us proud. Through your blog, I follow very much what the Party is up to.

I am one of those Kenyans who parted the Party on the back when I read that land that had been grabbed at the Ambassador’s residence had been recovered through campaigns by ODM-K Scandinavia – kudos to the Party’s brilliant leaders.

Another score is the acquisition of “Wananchi Pavillion” where the Memorial of the late James wuod Maggero was held. I live in Stockholm but for the first time, a Kenyan group has an Office right in Stockholm’s Central Business District. The Swedish system is very restrictive and for a group of Kenyan politicians to pull an office in the center of town is an achievement that is worth mentioning.

My friends in Kenya continue to write me emails about the Katuku address (video you posted at Youtube) by Mr. Martin Ngatia and others. Its good that KSB has made these videos available because they can change the way people think. Now, Kenyans at home who think that Kenyans abroad do not care about the country have something to think about.

I really sympathize with the Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia because she has opened herself to a lot of criticism simply because she has refused to meet Kenyans. ODM-K Scandinavia is doing a good job in keeping the Kenyan Embassy “on its toes”.

I have read that in Zimbabwe, the British Ambassador (I don’t have her name here) has been moving from police station to police station looking for Zimbabweans who have been arrested by the Mugabe government in order to fight for their release and Mugabe is not happy.

In Stockholm, the Kenyan Ambassador has refused to meet her own people and this is a big shame. I am thinking of joining ODMK-Scandinavia but only as a supporter because I can’t do politics.

To the Committee of ODMKS, keep up the good work. To KSB, you have my support. I don’t go to sleep without checking out what’s new at the blog. A friend of mine sometimes calls me if she is off line to ask whether something imeanguka at KSB.

ODM-Kenya Web Site Up And Running

The ODM-Kenya web site (odmk.org) is up and running. At the site is the Party’s Constitution, Political Programme, list of Presidential candidate together with links related to those seeking nomination for the Presidential slot.

The site also features ODM-K branches at home and abroad. ODM-K Scandinavia is well covered. As a Party, ODM-K is running a Newsletter called “Maisha Bora” which, according to its initial statement, has the sole objective of being the voice of the oppressed people in Kenya.

“Without a mouth piece, it will be impossible for the Party to circulate its analysis on various issues, report on what is happening especially during campaigns and counter false remarks and propaganda from other external media controlled by Narc government and that might be hostile to ODM-Kenya”, says an introductory note of the electronic Newsletter.

Pastor Beatrice Kamau To Wed On June 30th

The re-known Pastor Beatrice Kamau has eventually decided to tie the knot and to live happily ever after. The wedding will take place on June 30th 2007 at St klara Church from 14 hours. According to information obtained by KSB, all Kenyans and friends are welcome to the wedding.

The event is important because it will be the fourth public wedding of a Kenyan national in Stockholm in this century. The Pastor’s partner, who is a Swedish national, has already paid dowry to the parents of Beatrice at a tune of 100 cows and 50 sheep. This is a colossal amount of dowry by any stretch of the Kenyan imagination.

The pioneer of public weddings in Stockholm among Wakenya is called Mr. Laban Mberi who wedded Josephine Kirigo in June 2001. The wedding was followed by that of Mr. & Mrs Nashon Mbugua before Mr. & Mrs Clay Onyango came to the scene in August 2005 with yet another fantastic wedding that saw a Hummer driven in the streets of Stockholm in the name of a Kenyan wedding.

News about Beatrice’s wedding will, most likely, kindle a lot of debate and for now, KSB can only keep its eyes open and ears on the ground.

We take this opportunity to congratulate the “yet to be” bride and groom for the big step they have taken in life and hope that the wedding will be a splendid moment to remember at all times.

Pastor Beatrice told KSB that anybody interested should take this story as an invitation to the wedding because she doesn’t have the addresses of all friends and contacts. “Don’t say that I never invited you to my wedding”, was her message to contacts and friends. Further information will be released later.

New Success For “Sound Of Blackness” At Kenya Easter Party

The situation on the floor   djs in action  Fracas

For the second time running, “The Sound of Blackness”, has pulled another success with yet another roaring Party at Norsborg. Anybody who was at the Easter bash will attest to the respectable turn-out by Wakenya and friends of different shapes and sizes. The “sound” was satisfactorily “black” and the impact of the vibes was reflected on the dance floor which continued to remain packed for long spells as ndombolo and other variations of Kenyan music boomed from the high wattage speakers.

The clientele was middle-aged to “Wazee-like” when compared to the Party on Friday at Alby skolan which had a larger number of Kenyan youth shaking their beefs on the dance floor as DJ Kajoe drove them crazy.

“Sound of Blackness” appear to have mastered the taste and behavior of the crowd. Music continued to change according to the situation on the floor. When couples ruled the floor, they were joined together with appropriate music for that kind of operation. After they got worked out and looked kind of tired, they were slowed down accordingly. This was not accidental.

The combination of DJs who were manning the “cock-pit” of flight “Sound of Blackness 070407” are professional DJs who seem to have cocked many hours piloting huge crowds of different colours in the thick of the night.

Both DJ Frank and DJ Safi have been spinning in Mombasa and the United States respectively. Ordinary dancers looking for fun might not have noticed the sophistication of the two DJS. However, a trained eye familiar with electronic equipment at Norsborg Musikhuset could easily detect that the machines that were generating the rhythms and sending Wakenya and companions wriggling on the floor was no ordinary Musik Huset equipment. It was “top of the range” type. If the machines were cars, we could be talking about a “Hummer”, the model Raila Odinga used to create a lot of head ache in the Kenyan media.

Bodies were moving in unison well into the night. By 4.00 hrs, revelers were literally fusing on the floor with their opposites. This is normally the time when good fishermen begin to carry their catch home in taxis or other machines but on this Easter Sato, one could think that the Party had just began.

Kenyans “attached” but “unaccompanied” settled down as “spectators”. Well-known singles could be spotted trying their chances repeatedly, partly because the Disco was also very “fertile” with well-groomed Ma manzi who could excite the appetite of any bull seeking to “stretch a muscle” that has been idle for weeks due to gender complications in Stockholm and other related relationship crises. We did not manage to make any follow-ups to report on successes and failures because we needed to catch up with a lot of stuff.

One funny thing is that the dress code was this time very conservative especially with the ladies. They appeared to prefer “tight-skinned” covers which exposed more of “the figure” instead of going for the notorious collections that laid bare the “chocolate flesh” especially around the “sensitive quarters”.

This is not to suggest that there were no “extremists”. The male and female toilets are adjacent. When I zoomed through the short corridor to “download” at the men’s, I did not know that the short queue had it’s own trappings especially when you are looking for “eye candy” for a break.

THE DISCOTHEQUE IS NOT A KITCHEN
The disco hall is dark and you can’t really absorb much with your naked eyes, more so, if you are trying to focus on something juicy. It was when I turned my eyes towards the ladies queue that I managed to sample the range of “water melons” that were carefully packed on the chest albeit with the usual V kinda “visibility”, the kind that casts a male miscreant into a brief spell of “no comment” or “for your eyes only”.

In one display, the pair of melons bulged strategically (they must have been pressurized by some tight bra) while in another sample, it was kind of sloppy (probably after having been overworked). I don’t have to mention the general morphology of the “bumps behind” because of the risk of being charged by the “Blog police” of “degeneration into pornography”. The maximum that can be said is that the bumps were of different sizes.

When it comes to attire, some “Liberated Kenyan ladies” have resolved not to compromise especially on the question of launching attacks on the male psychology at Kenyan discos. It is like they always have an agenda to remind the male goons that ladies rule in “The republic of romance” because men probably have nothing special to show.

People should be free to dress the way they want, just like the freedom to comment should also be protected. The Liberated girls believe that a discotheque is not a kitchen where you display your cooking utensils. It is a “Platform” where a “conscious woman” has to “show off”.

And by the way. They don’t go there seeking to show off their hand bags. They swing there to get the real goods out “by any means necessary” so that when the disco is over, they become the talk of town. The philosophy is: “Don’t worry whether you are married or single – hang out the goods and show off the material your mamma gave to you”. I tried to look out for the famous one who had a dangerously short trouser last time but I was told that she had travelled to London “for shopping”.

Before I deviate very far, a close pal who was also waiting on the queue to “download” at the mens was luckier. A hug from a well spruced cat came from nowhere and he really exploited the situation, much to the chagrin of observers. Under normal circumstances, a hug is supposed to last just a few seconds. This one rolled along “for ages” and a keen observer could easily conclude that the guy had converted the thing into a “massage” of the chest.

The guy covered up by extending worthless comments like “Ohhh… you have been looooost for a looooong time”, I haven’t seeeeeen you foooooor aaages…. How are you dooooooing, you look fine and so forth. It was very cleaver because he kept on turning his head from “ear to ear” as his chest squeezed in.

The lady became a bit uneasy as it appeared clear that it was the guy who was reluctant in letting it go! When you thought that the guy was done, he added a new bogus comment – “You should have caaaaaalled me”. Some people! I went into the toilet and when I came back, there was a big fracas near the dance floor.

“HOW IS YOUR WIFE AND FAMILY?”
A group of Kenyans had restrained a guy who had started a fight from the table where they were sticking. I took off my new “digital” and flashed just on time. I kept a safe distance because as a matter of policy, I don’t get into the middle when blows are flying because of the risk of being crushed on the face with the consequence of unnecessary deformities.

“The security” that was in place quickly neutralized the ugly scene which appeared to have gone unnoticed by those who were on the dance floor because it occurred in a split of a second. As usual, I decided to try and fetch the story.

According to an informer, the guy went mad after his friend messed up his date. The offending guy went and greeted the friend with lousy words which triggered the beating. The guy was relaxing with a nice Kadem when the old time pal swung in their direction.

“Halo Mamen? How is your wife and family?” Bwaii!! The lady overheard the thing and burst out: “Are you married?” Instead of the offending guy twisting the story or trying to cover up by repairing the damage, he told the lady “Yes. This guy is married with wonderful children”. Although this was a good compliment, it was like the guy spilled the food from the plate.

In raging anger, the chilee stood up on her feet and as she disappeared into the crowd to get out of the disco, the offending guy was already being wasted with blows and what have you. The altercation was only a few seconds but it was another reason to believe that every party has its own hooligans.

Wakenya in Stockholm are becoming conscious about the presence of the Media in the middle of the action. “Don’t quote me on this” is becoming common. A guy who was “tuning” requested to be left out of KSB while another good contact was like “I have a story but I will call you later”.

We left with a bunch of tales that could make this piece run longer than necessary. The week is long so stay tuned for the latest hot Mleto that is still in the works!
