Who Is The Spokesperson Of ODM-KS? What The Constitution Says

In Kenya, if the government of President Mwai Kibaki violates the Constitution, we are always quick to make noise about it. Why should there be silence when the Constitution of ODM-KS is being violated repeatedly and with impunity before our very eyes? Currently, the Secretary has assumed the role of “Spokesperson” of the Party. He has realeased a public statement on behalf of the Party without consultation with the Committee. Who is the Spokesperson of ODM-KS and what does the Constitution say?

§8: CHAIRPERSON’S RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To co-ordinate the work of the Executive committee.
2. To chair Committee meetings.
3. To act as the Party’s Spokesperson.
4. Ensure that decisions taken by the Committee are executed.
5. Co-ordinate with the Treasurer to ensure that the Movement’s income and expenditure records are in order.
6. Save copies of the Movement’s documents for at least ten years.

Violations are violations and there are no sacred cows in ODM-KS. If the Constititution cannot be followed especially by Committee members, there will be anarchy and chaos within the Party. What happens if every Committee member begins to release a statement on behalf of the Party? Speaking up against these violations is a duty of every ODM-KS member regardless of the level of mud-slinging, personal attacks, threats and other pretences meant to divert attention.
