ODM-Scandinavia Formed In Stockholm

The Orange Democratic Movement in Scandinavia (ODM-Scandinavia) was set up on Saturday October 14th at Brygghuset in Stockholm. A Program document that has been under circulation among supporters was discussed, amended and ratified at the meeting where  an eleven man Interim Committee was also elected to take charge of the Party. The meeting resolved that the Officials would meet as soon as possible to distribute responsibilities among themselves.

The Committee was entrusted with the task of drafting a Constitution for ODM-Scandinavia, registering the Party in Sweden, opening a bank account, recruiting new members and calling a member’s meeting in two weeks to discuss the draft Constitution which will then be used to register the Party in Sweden.

The document that came under discussion calls for the delivery of a new Constitution based on the Bomas draft once ODM-K seizes power, an end to tribalism and nepotism especially in the appointment of public servants, an end to corruption, an end to land grabbing among other demands.

The new Committee was given the mandate to get in touch with ODM-Kenya in Nairobi to update the Office about latest developments in Scandinavia. The meeting agreed that a more comprehensive statement will be released by the Party after the new Committee has met and defined its immediate priorities.

KESDEMO Sends Condolences To Late Kihoro’s Family

The Kenya Scandinavia Democratic Movement (KESDEMO) has sent a message of condolence to the family of the late Dr. Wanyiri Kihoro, former MP of Nyeri Town, following the death of Mr. Kihoro’s wife Dr. Wanjiru Kihoro. The late Kihoro has been on a life support unit at Kenyatta National Hospital since 2003.

Speaking to Kenya Stockholm Blog, Mr. Martin Ngatia, KESDEMO Chairman, said that the Movement was saddened by the death of Dr. Kihoro who was very supportive of her husband during the anti-Moi struggle.

“KESDEMO hopes that Mr. Kihoro’s family will have courage to go through this difficult time”, Mr. Ngatia told KSB.

The KESDEMO Chairman said that when Mr. Kihoro was detained by the Moi dictatorship, his late wife played a very pivotal role in not only maintaining the family but also in the struggle for the release of political prisoners and other detainees.

“Dr. Wanyiri Kihoro constantly maintained contacts with patriots in Scandinavia through London. We organized many demonstrations outside the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm to put pressure on the Moi dictatorship as the struggle to democratize Kenya continued”, Mr. Ngatia said. He said that the late Dr. kihoro will be missed by everyone who knew her.

New Kenyan Ambassador Arrives In Stockholm As Kinyanjui Leaves Quietly

His Excellency Mrs Purity Wakiuri Muhindi, the new Kenyan Ambassador to Scandinavia, has already arrived in Stockholm and assumed Office. Mrs Muhindi arrived on Monday October 9th following the departure of Mr. Daniel Mukiri Kinyanjui on Sunday October 8th. According to protocol, the two Ambassadors are not supposed to meet when one is assuming office.

Mr. Kinyanjui left Stockholm quietly and his date of departure was kept a tight secret. Although the Kenya Social Forum in Sweden (Kesofo) had planned a farewell party for the out-going Ambassador, the party did not materialize because Mr. Kinyanjui failed to inform Kesofo about his expected date of departure so that the organization could plan the party.

Mr. Kinyanjui was supposed to have left earlier but the death of Kenyan diplomat Mr. James Kiboi in Oslo delayed his departure since there were several official matters he had to sort out on the Kiboi death.

Analysts in Stockholm believe that Mr. Kinyanjui might have decided to skip the Farewell party because of the uncertain and gloomy environment that engulfed Stockholm following Kiboi’s death.

There has been criticism from a cross section of Kenyans in Stockholm after it emerged in Norway that Ambassador Kinyanjui cancelled a meeting that was scheduled for August 25th with a Kenyan delegation from Oslo. The delegation planned to discuss how an alleged conflict between the late Mr. Kiboi and some Kenyans in Oslo could be resolved two weeks before Kiboi perished.

Mr. Kinyanjui has also been accused of having collaborated with police in Oslo to cancel a Press conference by a group of Kenyans who wanted to disclose what they knew about circumstances that surrounded the mysterious death of Mr. Kiboi in a house inferno.

Further, the former Ambassador was accused of being “too economic” with information on the Kiboi death. Many Kenyans who were concerned about what might have happened to Mr. Kiboi had to depend more on Kenya Stockholm Blog for inside information.

Contrary to his promise, Mr. Kinyanjui left Stockholm without telling Kenyans about the content of a police Report about Kiboi’s death or what had happened to the report. KSB has established that the report is ready.

Mr. Kinyanjui’s final year in office has been difficult because he has been unable to balance between growing resentment with the Kibaki government and his position as the representative of the government in scandinavia.

During his final year in office, the former Ambassador surrounded himself with dubious personalities who mainly sympathized with the Kibaki government, a move that was seen as designed to help him cope with pressure from opposition forces that were developing in Stockholm.

Mrs Muhindi is taking office at an equally difficult time when many Kenyans in Stockholm are opposed to the Kibaki administration. She arrives on the eve of the launching of ODM-Scandinavia in Stockholm.

Efforts to reach the new Ambassador have been fruitless as she has mainly been out of Office. At the time of going to Blog, the Ambassador’s Secretary was also out of Office.

Mrs Purity is not new at the Kenyan embassy in Stockholm. During the early 90s, she worked at the Embassy as a diplomat but in a lower capacity.

Mrs Muhindi is a career diplomat who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political science and sociology from University of Nairobi. She is also a holder of a post graduate diploma in International relations and mass communication.

“Moi Should Stop Confusing Kenyans With Useless Politics” – Ngatia

Mr. Martin Ngatia, the Chairman of the Kenya Scandinavia Democratic Movement (KESDEMO) has said that former President Daniel arap Moi should stop preaching rubbish to Kenyans because for 24 years, he presided over a ruthless and dictatorial regime that promoted poverty and suffering of millions of Kenyans.

Reacting to Moi’s directive that some KANU politicians should be expelled from the party because of their links with ODM, Mr. Ngatia said that Moi should be in prison because he is a murderer and an economic criminal who should not be releasing useless statements through the media.

“Moi is a failure and a failure cannot advise any right-minded person”, Mr. Ngatia told Kenya Stockholm Blog.

The KESDEMO Chairman said that it was unfortunate that Moi was pensioned because the amount of money he stole from the tax payer and the enormous amount of wealth he accumulated through theft of public funds should have been recovered by the Kibaki government instead of being protected, provided with bodyguards and given an opportunity to confuse people with useless statements.

“Moi is not a peaceful man neither is he a nationalist as he claims. He is a tribalist and a war monger who governed through dirty tactics of divide and rule”, Mr. Ngatia said.

He told KSB that although Moi pretends to talk for the poor, he protected foreigners and the upper class more than Kenyans during his 24 years of dictatorship. “All crimes he committed during his dictatorship are well documented”, Mr. Ngataia said.

On the question of Moi’s appointment as a “Peace envoy”, by the Kibaki government, Mr. Ngatia said that Moi is not in a position to negotiate any peace talks anywhere because he is responsible for instigating numerous incidences of bloody ethnic cleansing which resulted in the death of thousands of innocent Kenyans during his ruthless dictatorship.

“Over 5,000 Kenyans perished during these attacks while more than half a million Kenyans became internal refugees”, Mr. Ngatia said.

“Kesdemo will continue to advocate for Moi's arrest and prosecution as long as he lives because those who have murdered Kenyans and looted the country's economy should be made to face justice. There should be no mercy or forgiveness to those who are known to have spilled blood like Moi and his former henchmen. They should be brought before the court system and tried”, Mr. Ngatia said.

Commenting on KANU’s role in Kenyan politics, Mr. Ngatia said that Moi should stop propping up KANU because the party is an eye-sore to Kenyans who know the dirty politics of darkness and death the party has been playing for decades.

“KANU is like the Palestinian Liberation Organization which was abandoned by Palestinians in favour of Hamas. Just like PLO which began the Palestinian liberation struggle, KANU has lost contact with the people and millions of Kenyans know this”, Mr. Ngatia said.

The KESDEMO leader also attacked Moi on his failure to solve the problem of landlessness in Kenya. He said that instead of solving the crisis of landlessness, Moi continued to grab vast pieces of land and to bribe people to support him. “He has no moral authority to give advice to anybody”, he said.

“By calling for some KANU members to be expelled from the party because of their affiliation to ODM-Kenya, Moi is dreaming that he is the President of Kenya with Kibaki as his Vice president”, he said.

“Moi may be an elder but elders who are well known criminals should not be respected regardless of their age. If a revolutionary Movement or Party like KESDEMO were to seize power in Kenya, Moi could be crying for mercy, chained for ever behind bars”, Mr. Ngatia said.

Mr. Ngatia also attacked Martha Karua, the Minister for Justice, for absolving Mr. Simon Nyachae from corruption charges.

“Martha Karua has no right to forgive criminals like Simon Nyachae. If Nyachae is clean, then everybody who has grabbed land in Kenya or stolen from State coffers should be clean. This is yet another example of selective justice” he said.

Mr. Ngatia advised ODM-Kenya to fight back whenever Moi opened his mouth to attack the Movement.

“If ODM-Kenya seizes power in Kenya, the new government should ensure that Moi and all those who committed crimes against the Kenyan people are arrested and brought to face justice”, he told Kenya Stockholm Blog.

ODM-Scandinavia Supporters To Meet At Brygghuset

A meeting of ODM-Scandinavia supporters scheduled for Saturday 14th October will take place at Brygghuset located at Norrtullsgatan 12 (Tube Odenplan) from 16.00. Gerry Changa Midenyo, one of the initiative takers, said that plans for the meeting are complete. He appealed to ODM-Kenya supporters to turn up in large numbers to build the branch of the party.

“Kenyans need a change of government because they have suffered enough under the Kibaki government”, Mr. Midenyo told Kenya Stockholm Blog.

The meeting is expected to discuss and ratify a program document of ODM-Scandinavia and to elect Interim officials who will run the party branch.

The meeting has generated a lot of interest among Kenyans in Stockholm, a city that is increasingly becoming an ODM-Kenya zone.

Mr. Midenyo attacked Narc Kenya politicians who recently came to Stockholm to attend a one week seminar on water but later organized a night meeting at an apartment building in Stockholm. The meeting was mainly attended by a bunch of Narc-Kenya sympathizers in Stockholm.

“Kenyans in Stockholm are very united and it is pathetic that MPs could come all the way from Kenya to try and divide us here on tribal lines using night meetings”, Mr. Midenyo told KSB.

Narc-Kenya sympathizers are increasingly finding themselves isolated after a member of the group delivered what could amount to a “hate speech” at the secret night meeting that was attended by two Narc MPs.

According to a source, the member reportedly said that “we Kikuyus should not apologize to anybody” for meeting as Kikuyus.

Two Kenyans who were at the meeting told KSB that the statement tended to demonize Narc-Kenya as a Kikuyu party while it also tended to isolate non Kikuyus who could be sympathetic to Narc-Kenya.
