Mutinda To Speak At ABF-Huset In Stockholm Next Week

Gerald Mutinda, a Kenyan who works with CeedCo and who KSB reported about earlier, will be the main speaker at a public function on October 3rd at ABF-Huset at Sveavägen 41 in Stockholm from 18.00. Mr. Mutinda will speak about the threat against small farmers around the world.

Multinational food companies like Wal Mart are spreading their wings around the world. What is the consequence for small scale farmers around the world? Mutinda’s speech will look closely at Kenya, a country seen in the West as one of the world’s poorest countries. Mutinda will address the question as to whether the expansion of multinational food companies is a threat to Kenya’s small scale farmers.

Mr. Björn Lindh, the Chief of Communication at “Cooperation Without Boarders”, will present a report entitled “Small Farmers Big Market”.

The function has been organized by ABF, Cooperation Without Boarders and Attac Stockholm.

Tinga Tinga Jazz Band Playing In Stockholm

Tinga Tinga Jazz Band from the slums of Kibera in Nairobi is currently playing in Stockholm. The group has already played at Pub Katalin in Uppsala and at Torg Book Exhibition in Göteborg. On Thursday Sept 28th, the group will be playing at Södra Teaterns Lilla scen in Stockholm from 21 hrs.

In Kenya, Tinga Tinga Jazz Band works with a local organization called Umande Trust. Josiah Omotto who hails from Umande in Kbera is accompanying the group. The Tinga Tinga trip is part of an on-going project called “Urban Policy” financed by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). A book entitled “More Urban Less Poor” has been published through SIDA as part of the Project.

“The book – More Urban Less Poor – fills a vacuum because there is almost no literature which describes the situation in the towns in third world countries”, says Thomas Melin who works at the Department of Urban Development at SIDA. Further information can be obtained from Ericksson Lagerberg of Global Reporting through mail: hann@globalreporting.net or Telephone: 08-7912535.
